(Cl. 311105) The present invention relates to articles of furniture, and more specifically, to desk or table top support frames which are adapted to be used with desk or table bases of diifering construction.
The primary object of the invention is to provide a structureof the class described which, when laminated to a desk or table top, produces an exceptionally strong unitary construction.
Another object of the invention is to provide a device of the above character which may be used with a multiplicity of base support structures. 7
A further object of the invention is to provide a desk or table top frame which is light in weight while having great strength when combined in laminated form with a desk or table top.
A still further object of the invention is to'provide a desk or table top underframe which is relatively inexpensive to manufacture and easy to install.
Another object of the invention is to provide an underframe of the class described which may be attached to an understructure by means of machine screws threaded into the underframe' after passing through the understructure.
Other objects and advantages will become apparentin the following specification when read in light of the attached drawing, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view looking down on top of the invention with the desk or table top shown in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a bottom plan view of the invention.
Figure 3 is a side elevation of the invention.
Figure 4 is a vertical cross-section taken on line 4--4 of Figure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows, with parts broken away.
Figure 5 is a cross-section taken on line 5-5 of Fig ure 2, looking in the direction of the arrows, with parts broken away. 1 a a New referring to the drawings in detail, wherem llke members 12 and 13 which have an inverted U-shaped cross-section, as disclosed in Figure 4. The side member 12 has an inwardly angled frame member 14 extending from one end thereof and the frame member 13 has an inwardly angled member 15 extending from one end thereof. The outer ends of the members 14 and 15 are connected by a lateral cross member 16. A second cross member 17 connects the other ends of the side'members 12 and 13 and extends in pa'rallel relation to the cross member'16. Theside'member 13 is providedwith a stub end 18 which extends beyond the cross member 17. The
, A member 20 connects atone end with theinner terminal end of the member 19 and has its other end coni nected with the cross member17at 21. A diagonal element 22 extends from themember 14 to the member 17 near the central portion of member 17 and is connected United States Patent 0 The mid points of the cross members 26 and 27 are connected by an upright member 28 which is parallel to the side members 12 and 13. The midpoints of the cross members 27 and 17 are connected by an upright member 29 extending parallel to the side members 12 and 13. One end of the cross member 26 is connected to cross member 16 adjacent one end thereof by a member 30,
while the opposite end of the cross member 26 is connected to cross member 16 adjacent the opposite end thereof by the member 31.
Each of the elements and members mentioned in the frame 11 has a generally inverted U-shaped cross-section. The side members 12 and 13 are provided at spaced intervals with upwardly directed threaded bores 32 for attachment of the frame 11 and its associated desk or table top 10 to a pedestal support. The cross members 16, 26 and 17' are each likewise provided with spaced threaded bores 32 for the same purpose. The diagonally extending'members 22 and 24 and the upright members 29, Mind 31, are also each provided with the spaced threaded bores 32.
It should be noted in Figure 5 of the drawing that porinvention, it should be understood that various modificareference numerals indicate like parts throughout the. several figures, the reference numeral 10 indicates, gen-r 1 .erally, a desk or table top to which the invention is to be secured.
