Richard E.Poige BY ,Z/M MM ATTORNEY United My invention relates to articles for display or exhibiting devices especially adapted to be used in the advertising field to arouse interest in merchandise oifered for sale.

An important object of this invention is to provide an article that can be readily attached to a container or other item of merchandise and impart to it a conspicuous and attractive appearance, so that it will capture the attention of observers in the immediate vicinity.

The nature of the invention is fully set forth herein and a preferred construction is illustrated on the accompanying drawings. In the claim the distinctive features are pointed out, and variations in structural details may be adopted without going beyond the meanings of the general terms in which the claim is expressed.

Figure 1 shows the attachment mounted in display position; and

Figure 2 is a plan view of the blank from which it is formed.

The attachment is made by cutting the body of it out of cardboard or other sheet material, and is given the general outline of a curved arrow indicated by the numeral 1. The arrow is marked ofi into longitudinal portions or halves 2 and 3 by a score line 4 on its rear face, and is bent along this line so that the two halves make an angle with each other. The arrow and the halves 2 and 3 taper or contract in width from end to end and have the shape of a barb 5 at one end and are broadest at the wider opposite end. Adjacent the wide end is an elongated opening 6 that extends a cross the score line 4.

When the blank has been bent along the line 4 as above described, it can be mounted on the neck of a bottle 7, for example, by thrusting the neck 8 through the aperture 6. The aperture is contracted at the line 4 and there presents a pair of projections 9 that oppose each other, and the space between these projections is smaller than the thickness of the neck 8. Hence the neck cannot move sideways and displacement of the arrow is Patent prevented. In the position of Figure 1 the arrow curves toward the bottle and presents its end 5 to the label 10 on the bottle 7, and thus rivets the observers eye upon the nature of the contents and the name of the producer or distributer.

The display attachment when thus mounted will retain position, because the neck of the bottle fits the opening 6 snugly and holds the arrow-shaped member in place. However, it is preferable to lay out the blank with an extension 11 connected to one inclined side of the part 5, and the extension terminates in an enlarged round disk 12. This extension is bent so that the bottle stands on it and thus the attachment is held by the neck of the bottle at one end and the weight of the bottle at the other. A transverse score line 13 along one side of the part 5 and another score line 14 running into the disk at its junction with the narrow strip or neck 15 of the extension permits bending as required. The inner end of the score line 14 is connected by a cut 16 in the disk 12 to the edge of the disk, in line with one edge of the neck 15, and when the parts are set up as in Figure 1, said edge of the neck will be approximately in line with the center of the disk and no tendency to tilt the bottle will arise. Hence the piece of merchandise will be in plain sight and the arrow will guide the eye to the merchandise 7 and its label 10. Of course the attachment may be finished and used without the extension 11, if desired.

The invention is thus simply constructed and easy to make and well serves its intended purpose.

Having described my invention, what I believe to be new is:

In a display device, an arc-shaped blank of cardboard having a score line running throughout its length from end to end, dividing it into two portions set at an angle to each other, the blank having a hole therein adjacent one end, the edges of said hole having approximately the outline of a Figure 8, with a narrow part at said score line, the hole adapted to fit about the neck of a bottle, with the narrow part embracing said neck to attach the device to the bottle, said blank having the form of a barb at the opposite end and in line with said hole, said blank also having an extension hinge-connected to said opposite end for disposal under the bottom of the bottle.
