(CI. 38-96) The present invention relates to holders for electric flat irons and has for an object to provide a device which enters the body of the iron and cooperate therewith to support the iron. Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and drawings, wherein Fig. 1 is a side elevation showing the iron supported from one end of the body;

Fig. 2 is an elevation showing the position of the iron to receive the holder prior to pivoting the iron to the position in Fig. l; and

Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the iron holder.

The embodiment of the invention herein disclosed comprises a holder for an electric flat iron 11 having a sole plate 12, a cover shell 13 and a handle 14. The handle has front and rear supporting legs 15 and 16 suitably attached to the cover shell 13 to provide spaces 17 and 18 between the cover shell 13 and the bases 19 of the handle legs. The handle rear leg 16 is hollow as indicated at 20 and communicates with the rear space 18 to provide an entrance to the interior of the leg 16. The rear end 21 of the cover shell 13 projects beyond the handle rear leg 16.

The holder 10 is formed from a sheet of metal and is bent to provide a base 25 having a rectangular portion 26 and side flanges 27, and in the portion 26 are a plurality of holes 28 for receiving screws 29 to attach the holder to a vertical stationary supporting member 30. Projecting outwardly from the base 25 is a member 31 at the end of which is a hook formed by an arm 32 extending parallel to the base 25 and terminating in a flange 33. The member 31 is provided with marginal shoulders 34 which are welded at 35 to the flanges 27 and -at 36 to tabs 37 on the arm 32 to reinforce the holder. The arm 32 and flange 33 are spaced respectively from the base 25 and the member 31 to provide sufficient area for movement of the projecting end 21 of the cover shell 13 when the iron is pivoted to the different positions shown in Figs. 1 and 2, to removably attach the iron to the holder.

In order to place the iron 11 on the holder 10, the iron is held in the horizontal position and moved toward the flange 33 to receive the latter in the space 18 between the handle rear leg 16 and the cover shell 13 as shown Ice in Fig. 2. Thereafter, the iron is pivoted downwardly about the flange 33 which then enters the interior 20 of the handle rear leg to position the flange 33 against the interior surface 39 of the handle to suspend the iron vertically by the handle rear leg 16 from the flange 33 of the iron holder as shown in Fig. l. The flange 33 is spaced from the supporting member 30 to support the toe 40 of the iron out of contact with the member 30.

It is contemplated that the iron may also be supported in a horizontal position when the supporting member 30 is horizontal, whereby the flange 33 prevents horizontal displacement of the iron and the base 41 of the handle rear leg 16 rests on the arm 32 of the holder to support the rear end of the iron from the support 30. A plug 42 of heat insulating material may be secured by a screw 43 to the support 30 to space the toe 40 of the iron from the support 30.

While I have illustrated and described the invention in considerable detail, it is to be understood that various changes may be made in the arrangement, proportion and construction of parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. In combination an iron including a cover shell, a handle having a hollow portion, said handle mounted on said cover shell to provide a space therebetween communicating with said hollow portion, and a holder for the iron disconnectable therefrom when ironing and having means adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, and hook means on said holder passing through said space into said handle hollow portion into engagement with the interior surface of said handle to support the iron on said holder.

In combination an iron including a cover shell, a handle having a supporting leg mounted on said cover shell, means defining an opening between said cover shell and handle supporting leg to an interior surface of said iron, and a holder for the iron disconnectable therefrom when ironing and having means adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, and hook means on said holder passing through said opening into engagement with said interior surface of said iron to support the latter on said holder.

3. In combination an iron including a body having an interior surface, means forming an opening to said interior surface at an angle thereto, and a holder for the iron the latter being disconnectable therefrom for ironing, said holder having means adapted to be mounted on a supporting surface, and hook means on said holder shaped to enter said opening and engage said interior surface upon rotation of said iron to thereby suspend the latter from said interior surface.
