DEMOUNTABLE APPLIANCE SUPPORT Filed Dec. 17, 1954 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 United States Patent O DEMOUNTABLE APPLIANCE SUPPORT Henry R. Winterhoff, Detroit, Mich.
Application December 17, 1954, Serial No. 475,944
1 Claim. (Cl. 248-223) This invention relates to improvements in demountable brackets, especially but not exclusively, for supporting appliances, such as meat grinders and the like while in use.
The primary object of the present invention is to provide more practical and eicient brackets of this kind involving a fixed component arranged to be fixedly secured to a support, and a demountable component 4arranged to be removably secured to the fixed component, the brackets providing rigid support for appliances mounted on their demountable components, and the demountable components being easily and quickly secured to and removed from the fixed components, the brackets being capable of being -made in rugged and serviceable forms from sheet material at relatively low cost.
Other important objects and advantageous features of the invention will be apparent from the following description and the accompanying drawings, wherein for purposes of illustration only, a specific form of the invention is set forth in detail.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a side view of a demountable bracket embodying the features of this invention showing an appliance mounted thereon;
Figure 2 is a front elevation of the bracket of Figure l;
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2, showing the retaining means disengaged and the demountable component positioned for removal from the fixed component;
Figure 4 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3;
Figure 5 is a sectional view taken substantially on the line 5-5 of Figure 2;
Figure 6 is a perspective view of a retaining element; and
Figure 7 is a sectional view taken on the line 7-7 of Figure 6.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the illustrated bracket structure comprising a plate 10 of inverted isoceles triangular form is provided at each corner with ,a hole 12. Engaged in each of the holes 12 is a boss 14 on the rear end of a tubular retainer 16. Each such retainer 16 comprises a cylindrical body 18 having on its front end a laterally outwardly extending annular flange 20. A similar intermediate annular flange 22 on the body 18 is spaced rearwardly from the flange 20 adjacent the boss 14 so as to define an annular groove 24 between the flanges 20 and 22. The front ends 23 of the bodies 18 are countersunk, as at 26, to receive the heads 27 of suitable fasteners, such as screws 28, by means of which the plate 10 is attached to a suitable upright support 5. As illustrated in Figures 4 and 5, the rear ends of the bosses 14 are peened over in their respective holes 12 so as to secure the intermediate flanges 22 against the front side of the plate 10.
An L-shaped demountable bracket 30 comprises a horizontal arm 32 and a vertical leg 34. The horizontal arm 32 carries on its upper side a pad 36 which is adapted riffice to be engaged by one jaw of a C-clamp carried by an appliance that is to be supported on the bracket structure for use. The horizontal bracket arm 32 is a rectangular plate, and the vertical bracket leg 34 is an inverted triangular plate. The vertical leg 34 is provided at its corners with openings 38 which are adapted to be registered with the retainers 16 and are large enough to pass the intermediate flanges 22 thereof. Extending forwardly from the leg 34 on the vertical center line thereof is a pair of vertically spaced guide pins 40 upon which a locking plate 42 is mounted to slide in engagement with the front side of the vertical bracket leg 34. The pins 46 have heads 41 on the front ends bearing against the front side of the locking plate 42. The locking plate 42 is provided with vertically spaced vertically elongated slc-ts 44 which receive the guide pins 40 to slidably support the locking plate 42 on the vertical leg 34. The slide plate 42 comprises a substantially Y-shaped body 46 having a narrow lower portion 48 in the lower end of which is formed a notch 50 which is to engage in the groove 24 and behind the front flange 20 of the lowermost retainer 16 when the body 46 is moved downwardly on the guide pins 40. Laterally extending arms 52 of the Y-shaped body 46 at the upper end thereof, are formed in their lower edges with arcuate notches 54 which are adapted to engage in the grooves 24 of the upper retainers 16. A finger lug 56 is carried by the front side of the Y-shaped body 46 intermediate the ends thereof to provide a grip by means of which the locking plate 42 may be moved into and out of engagement with the retainers 16.
ln use, it will be evident that with Ithe mounting plate 10 secured to a vertical support S by the screws 28 through the retainers 16, the bracket 30 may be demountably secured to the mounting plate 10 by advancing the vertical leg 34 toward the front side of the plate 10 and passing the retainers 16 through the related openings 38 in the vertical leg 34 of the bracket 30. As the leg 34 engages the front side of the plate l0 the grooves 24 of the retainers will be vertically aligned with the locking plate 42, so that when the locking plate 42 is moved downwardly on the pins 40 the locking plate notches 50 and 54 engage in the grooves 24 and portions of the locking plate adjacent the notches 50 and 54 engage the rear sides of the front flanges 20 of the retainers 16, so that the bracket 30 is secured on the plate 10. Obviously, when the bracket 3i) has served its purpose, it may be removed from the plate 10 by simply lifting the locking plate 42 to disengage the portions of the locking plate adjacent the notches 50 and 54 from behind the flanges 20 of the retainers and then moving the bracket 30 forwardly away from the plate 10.
While in the foregoing there has been shown and described the preferred embodiment of this invention, it is to be understood that minor changes in the details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
What is claimed is:
In a bracket structure, a vertical plate having a front side and being provided with at least one upperhole and a lower hole, retainers having bosses engaged in said holes, each retainer comprising a body larger in diameter than said holes and having front and rear ends, the said bosses being on the rear ends of the bodies, said bodies having grooves spaced from their ends and defining front and rear annular flanges, said rear flanges bearing against the front side of said plate, means connected to the retainer and extending rearwardly beyond said bosses for securing the retainers to a support with the said plate engaging the support, an inverted L-shaped de'mountable bracket'havinga `horizontal arm and a vertical-leg; said'vertical'leg'havinga'frontside, and a'rear side and being provided with openings registered with and passing the retainer bodies, the rear ,side of the vertical leg bearing against thefi'ont side-oi" saidverticalplateanditheVA front'anges'of' tlefretainersv being spaced forwardly` from:
the-front sde of'i the vertical'bracket. leg Withsaid retainer grooves between the'front anges' and the -lirontside'of the vertical bracketv leg,l saidv vertical leg having"vertically spaced pinsprojecting forwardly therefromV and. having' f'rontends, heads ontlie front ends of tliepins, and' a verticall locking plateA slidably' healingV against the front side ofi thebracket leg;,said-locking"platehavingla front` i 4E provided with an upper notch, said locking plate being slidablerdownwardly from an elevatedy non-locking position to a depressed locking position wherein the notches engage in the grooves of the retainers with portions of the locking plate engaged behind the front ilanges of the retainers.
