Description
Aug. 30, 1955 N. c. DORROUGH CHURN AGITATOR Filed March 23, 1955 United States Patent CHURN AGITATOR Nell Collum Dorrough, Cullman, Ala.
Application March 23, 1953, Serial No. 343,985
1 Claim. (Cl. 259-134) This invention relates to a churn agitator. It has for its main objects to provide such an agitator that will be highly satisfactory for the purpose intended, simple in structure, cheap to manufacture, easy to install in a churn for use, and extremely durable.
Further objects are to provide such an agitator adapted for use in churns of different depths and capacities.
Other objects and advantages will appear from the drawing and description.
By referring generally to the drawing it will be observed that Fig. 1 is a plan view of Fig. 2 with the top removed.
and assuming Fig. 2 to be fully round; Fig. 2 is a vertical view showing the churn container in section and the agitator assembly in full; Fig. 3 is a view on line 3-3 of Fig. 2 showing the upper dasher of the agitator; Fig. 4 is a side view of the upper dasher; Fig. 5 is a view on line 5-5 of Fig. 2 showing the lower portion dasher; Fig. 6 is a view on line 66 of Fig. 2 of the bottom dasher; and Fig. 7 is an elevational view of the tube assembly for supporting the dashers with the bottom dasher thereon.
Similar reference numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.
Referring to the drawing in detail it will be seen that the agitator assembly comprises three pieces of tube, 1, 2 and 3, and three dashers, 4, 5 and 6. The tubes are assembled telescope fashion as shown in Figs. 2 and 7. The tubes are held in place by wing screws 7 and 8. The dashers are held in place by wing screws 9, 10 and 11. The assembled agitator is adapted for use in a churn 12 with top 13.
' rust-proof metal.
assembly is adjustable in length and the dashers are adapted for use in many positions on the supporting tubes.
The parts of the agitator may be made of any material suitable for the purpose, but I prefer to use light weight Also the parts may be made in different sizes and capacities depending on the sizes of the churn containers in which to be used.
While I have shown and described the preferred embodiment of my invention, I do not wish to limit same to the exact and precise details of structure, and reserve the right to make all modifications and changes so long as they remain within the scope of the invention and the following claim.
Having described my invention I claim:
An agitator assembly of the character described for use in combination with a churn comprising, three pieces of tube mounted together telescope fashion, one tube piece being the upper and the largest in diameter, one tube piece being the middle and of less diameter than the upper piece and being of a size to fit slidably in the upper piece, one tube piece being the lower end of less diameter than the middle piece and being of a size to fit slidably within the middle piece, two wing screws mounted in the upper piece and adapted for manual setting to hold the middle piece in fixed position in the upper piece, a wing screw mounted in the middle piece and adapted for manual setting to hold the lower piece in fixed position in the middle piece, a two-wing dasher with a wing screw mounted in its side and attached adjustably on the upper tube piece, a four wing dasher with a wing screw in its side and attached adjustably on the lower tube piece, a second two wing dasher with a wing screw in its side and attached adjustably on the lower end of the lower piece of tube.
