1 Claim. (Cl. 20616) This invention relates to a holder or carrying case construction for crochet hooks and the like.

The principal objects of the invention are the provision of a holder or carrying case for articles such as crochet hooks and the like which is constructed for enclosing a plurality of articles and arranged to make the articles accessible when it is desired to remove them.

All of the above objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangements of parts thereof, as will fully appear by a perusal of the description below and by various specific features which will be hereinafter set forth.

To the above cited and other ends and with the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages and other objects of my invention as will become more readily apparent as the description proceeds, my invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claim hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:

Fig. 1 is a plan view of a holder embodying the novel features of the invention;

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the holder shown in Fig. l in closed relation;

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the holder in dispensing relation; and

Fig. 4 is a sectional elevational view on the line 44 of Fig. 1.

Referring now to the drawings more in detail, the invention will be fully described.

The holder of the invention is represented by 2 and in a general way includes an elongated body 4 having a plurality of end flaps 6 at opposite ends thereof and a side flap 8 hinged at 10 to a longitudinal edge thereof.

The holder will be formed from relatively pliable material so that the elements thereof are relatively movable or at least the holder will be bendable longitudinally intermediate its longitudinal sides as well as bendable transversely intermediate its opposite ends.

Various forms of plastic sheet material of which there are many will be suitable for the practice of the invention.

The lower half 4 of the body is swingable upwardly onto the upper portion of the body along a line longitudinally of the body intermediate its opposite sides. The

side flap 8 may be swung over onto the outer side of the lower portion 4 as it overlies the upper portion. Snap fastener means of ordinary form represented by 12 is provided to releasably secure the flap to the outer side of the lower portion of the body.

The end flaps 6 at opposite ends of the body are swingable on the lines 14 and 16 so that said flaps may be swung inwardly to lie between upper and lower portions of the body as the lower portion is swung to overlie the upper portion. Thus with the flap secured as described, the holder is closed at opposite ends and appears as in Fig. 2.

Pockets 18 are provided on opposite end portions of the body which extend longitudinally thereof. These pockets are closed at outer ends and are open at inner ends 20.

The pockets are formed by sheet material 21 extending across end portions of the body and secured thereto along longitudinal and transverse lines 22 and 24.

The members 21 will consist of thin plastic material and the securement to the body along the lines 22 and 26 may be accomplished by heating the material along those lines.

The pockets may be formed from other materials and may be secured to the body in various ways as by stitching or the like.

As will be seen, the pockets are arranged in transversely extending rows with adjacent open inner ends thereof spaced apart longitudinally of the body so that there is a free zone of the body extending transversely thereacross.

Implements such as crochet hooks represented by C have outer ends 26 inserted in the pockets so that inner free ends 28 extend therefrom.

Preferably the pockets of one row are staggered relative to the pockets of the other row so that the free ends of the implements in one row of pockets extend between the implements in the other row of pockets and over the pocket forming material.

Where the articles in the pockets are crochet hooks, they will have working end portions of different dimensions and are usually identified by numerals indicating sizes.

The plastic forming members 21 will preferably be transparent so that the size numerals of the crochet hooks will be visible therethrough to enable the user to select the crochet hook desired.

To facilitate the easy withdrawal of the desired crochet hook or hooks, opposite ends of the body are swung relatively downwardly to assume a relatively diverging relation as shown in Fig. 3.

In this relation of the parts, the free ends 28 of the crochet hooks extend upwardly and away from the pockets and holder so that the free ends may be readily grasped for withdrawing the hooks from the pockets.

The crochet hooks may be inserted in the pockets in the position of the parts shown in Fig. 1 or in Fig. 3.

The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without depalting from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claim rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claim are therefore intended to be embraced therein.

What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:

A combined enclosing and dispensing device for a plurality of crochet hooks of a certain length having hook ends and outer ends comprising, an elongated rectangular body formed from bendable pliable material having opposite longitudinal side and opposite transverse end edges, said body being bendable longitudinal intermediate said side edges providing opposite side portions which may be brought into superposed relation to enclose crochet hooks on inner faces thereof, said body being bendable on a transverse line intermediate said opposite end edges providing opposite end portions which may be disposed in downwardly diverging dispensing relation with inner faces outermost, sets of transversely spaced elongated pockets secured to inner faces of the end portions of the body and extending longitudinally thereof provided with closed outer ends adjacent transverse end edges of the tudinal side of one side portion of the body for over- 7 lying the outer side of the other side portion in enclosing of hooks in one row of pockets being disposed for lying 10 between the pockets of the other row in enclosing position of the side portions of the body and outwardly beyond the transverse bending line and body in diverging dispensing position of the end portion of said body, end flaps hinged to transverse end edges of said body for folding inwardly onto said pockets and the hook end of hooks in said pockets, a side flap hinged to an outer longiposition of said side portion, and engageable fastening means carried by said flap and outer side of said other side portion.
