1 Claim. (Cl. 26-28) This invention relates to a combination of related and inter-dependent parts fashioned to interlock when assembled to form an instrumentality popularly designated as a steam gun with carding brus by operators concerned with removing certain types of spots from fabrics, such as garments, upholstery, rugs and the like, and conditioning furs.

To provide a sturdy, dependable instrument of this type from simple inexpensive parts that can be readily assembled for use and disassembled for repairs and cleaning, and reassembled expeditiously by the user in the principal object of this invention.

Another object of this invention is the provision of novel parts that can be manufactured on a production basis in order to provide the user with the best grade and type of a steam gun at the minimum cost.

To provide ventilation for the handle for the comfort of the operator through the elements that mount the fluid supply pipe and nozzle is a further object of this invention.

Other and subordinate objects are also comprehended by my invention, all of which, together with the precise nature of my improvements will be readily understood when the succeeding description and claims are read with reference to the drawings accompanying and forming part of the specification.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of a steam gun with carding brush in which is embodied my invention.

Figure 2 is an exploded view of the constituent parts shown in Figure 1.

Referring to the drawings by numerals, 5 designates a hollow handle, preferably of cork or other material having low heat conductivity, 6, 6 plastic ferrules having a hexagon or other non-circular recess 7 to receive a correlated base 8 of hollow frustum 9 at the forward end: and base 10 of adapter 11 at the rear end of the handle. The top of the frustum is provided with a hole for receiving and retaining feed pipe or conduit 12, also it is fashioned with apertures 12B for ventilation, also a concave face 12A to receive as a seat and retain the cylindrical body 13 of hollow spray head 14 to which the forward end of the pipe is permanently secured. This head is formed with a scraper 15 at one end and screw threads 16 at the other for receiving collar-nut 17 that secures fluid applying nozzle N8 thereto.

It should be noted that concave face 12A holds or keys the spray head in a definite relation to the frustum and that the latter is likewise held in fixed relation to the handle, thus avoiding any displacement of the related parts at any time.

After adapter 11 is seated in the recess of the rear ferrule and the feed pipe has been placed in the center hole therein, nut 18 is screwed onto threads 19 with washer 20 pressing on to the adapter, thus drawing the head securely against the frustum, that in turn is held in the recess 7 while the adapter is similarly located and secured at the other end of the handle.

Carding brush 20 is carried by arm 21 that is formed with a sleeve 22 to fit over body 13 before the nozzle is attached thereto and to be secured by set screw 23. This sleeve is also provided with a gap or slot 24 in order that the sleeve can pass the top of the frustum and be keyed thereby in definite relation thereto so that brushing operations may be practiced Without disturbance of shifting, heretofore common where a combination of this kind has been improvised to provide spraying and brushing operations when required to remove certain types of stubborn spots and to dress furs.

Manifestly, the invention, as illustrated and described is susceptible of modification without departing from the inventive concept, and right is hereby reserved to such modifications as fall within the scope of the appended claim.

I claim:

The combination of a cylindrical head of a spray gun mounted on a handle by a feed pipe projecting therefrom and through a hollow frustum fixedly secured to one end of said handle and a carding brush; said frustum having a concave seat that embraces at least a part of said head; said brush having an arm provided with an opensided sleeve that embraces said head and the end of said frustum for locating said brush in relation to said handle; and means for securing all of said elements as a unit.
