PATENT RElN-HOLDER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 269,258, dated December 19, 1882.
A pplcation tled April 26, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern Beitknown that LOALLENDER I. GALVERT, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State ot' Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Rein-Holders, Which improvementis fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in Which- Figures 1. and 4 are top or plan views of rein-holders embodying my invention. Fig.2 is a section in line x, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a front end view thereof. Fig. 5 is a section in line y y, Fig. 4. I
Similar letters ot' reference indicate correspending parts in the several figures. Y
My invention consists of a rein-holder constructed substantially as hereinat'ter, described, whereby it ma'y be conveniently and quickly applied to and removed from the rein.
It also consists of a rein-holder formed with raised guards for preventing lateral displacement ofthe rein.
lt also consists of means, hereinafter described, for positively connecting the rein with the holder in the direction ofthe length thereof'.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the holder, formed ot' a metal frame, consisting ot' the front transverse bar, c, the longitudinal side bar, b, the middle transverse bar, c, the longitudinal side bar, d, and rear transverse bar, e, the side bar b connecting the front and middle bars, a c, and the side bar d connecting the middle and rea-r bars, thus forming two parallel throats,ff, which are open at the side of the frame.
Rising from the ends of the front and rear bars are lugs B B, and from the center of the rear bar is a horn or hook, C, said lugs and vhook being integral with the frame.
The rein is passed over the front bar, then through the throatj'and under the middle bar, and finally through the throatf' and over the rear bar, the bite of the frame on the rein causing the latter to take firm hold ofthe frame or holder. The hook C is inserted in one of opposite places, and thus guard the rein against lateral displacement, whereby the rein is re` liably connected with the holder. The open throats ff permit the ready application of the rein to the holder over and under the respective bars; but When the line is to be detached from the holder it is disengaged from the hook C and alternately drawn laterally through the two throats, thus quickly and conveniently disconnecting it.
Formed or connected with the frame is an arm, D, which terminates in a hook, D', at the rear end of said arm, said arm and hook being preferably formed ot' metal integral with the frame, which may be covered with leather or other suitable material, thus providinga strong and durable hand-piece which maybe grasped by the hand or engaged by the fingers in a quick, easy, and secure manner, and permits great power to be exerted on the reins, thev effect of which on the animal being evident.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. A rein-holder formed ot parallel bars connected together so as to leave throats on opposite sides, and provided with a horn or hook on the rear bar thereof to prevent disengagement or slipping ofthe rein.
2. A rein-holder formed ot' parallel bars connected together at their ends so as to leave throats on opposite sides, and provided with a horn or hook 'on the rear bar thereof and lugs B at the sides ofthe rein-holder, substantially as and for the purpose set 'orth.v
