3 Claims.
This invention relates to roll paper holders and dispensers.
This invention is an improvement of my copending application Serial No. 169,146, filed June 20, 1950, and since matured into Patent No. 2,647,028, dated July 28, 1953, for R011 Paper Dispenser.
A general object of the present invention is to provide a roll paper dispenser designed and constructed to facilitate the filling of a dispenser and to enable measured removal of the paper therefrom without undesirable displacement or jamming of the roll.
A further object of the invention is to provide means to enable feeding of the paper through the dispensing lip so that the paper may be positioned for dispensing easily and quickly.
The invention further provides a convenient tearing lip to cut the paper with minimum displacement of the paper from the plane of the direction of dispensing travel thereof and which tearing lip does not hinder the normal removal of the paper in such a way as to cause snagging or tearing of the paper.
A further object is to provide a support and dispenser for roll paper which is compact in structure and which is provided with an easily removable top to enable filling and replacement of the paper for dispensing.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent upon referring to the specification and drawings in which similar characters of reference represent corresponding parts in the several views.
Referring to the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the invention taken from the front thereof.
Fig. 2 is a fragmentary perspective view of the invention taken from the rear thereof.
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary perspective view of the top of the dispenser.
Fig. 4 is a front elevational view of the device partly in section.
Fig. 5 is a sectional view taken on line 55 of Fig. 1.
The invention relates to a dispenser for rolltype paper of the character having a hollow core, and wherein no spindle or axle is necessary to support the roll in order to dispense the paper in measured quantities without jamming or displacement of the roll.
Essentially, the invention consists of a box-like support, generally indicated at 2, containing a rounded cradle, generally indicated at 3, open at the top and in which a paper roll A is adapted to be positioned loosely. Preferably the box-like support 2 has a flat bottom or floor 4 so that the dispenser may be supported, if desired, upon a table top or the like. The sides 5 of the box-like structure enclose the sides of the cradle 3. The back of the cradle, indicated at 6, projects upwardly, and, at the top thereof, is provided with a flange I which is bent downwardly and obliquely inwardly toward the cradle to form an angular trough 8.
Apertures 9 are provided in the back 6 of cradle 3 to receive screws or the like so that the dispenser may be attached to a wall or like supporting structure if such is desired.
The front II of the cradle 3 projects upwardly to a point below the flange I and is curved outwardly, as at I2, to form a horizontally disposed dispensing lip IS. The dispensing lip is located above the center of the paper roll A and below the top thereof. The outwardly projecting lip I3 is provided with upwardly extending side flanges I!) which serve to prevent lateral displacement of paper being dispensed.
The back of the cover or top, indicated generally at I5, is bent downwardly and obliquely upwardly and rearwardly to form a flange I4 and a trough I6 complementary to trough 8 so that the flange I may be inserted in the trough I6 and in juxtaposition with flange I4 to serve as a means for removably attaching the top I5 to the cradle 3. The top I5 is also, provided with downwardly extending side flanges I1 which fit over the top edges of the sides 5. The front of the top I5 is bent downwardly, as at I8, and thence outwardly, as at I9, to form a lip cover or tear plate arranged to be disposed over the dispensing lip I3. The flange portions I! carried by tear plate IQ of top I5 are provided with indentations 20 to secure resiliently the top at the forward end thereof to the flanges I6 of the dispensing lip I3 in order to prevent unwanted displacement of the said parts.
Laterally projecting fingerholds or flanges 2| are carried by or are integral with the bottom of the flange portions I! of plate I9.
The front of the tear plate I9 is bent upwardly and then obliquely downwardly and outwardly, as at 22, and terminates in a serrated tearing edge 23 spaced above the top of dispensing lip I3 and substantially flush with the end of said lip or slightly rearwardly thereof so that the users hands will not catch upon said serrated edge.
The position of the serrated tearing edge 23 with respect to lip I3 enables the paper to be removed from the dispenser without snagging 0n the serrated edge during the course of removal; and, further, enables the paper to be cut by a simple upward movement thereof a short distance for contact with the serrated edge. It is not necessary, in order to cut the paper being dispensed, to lift the paper upwardly at a right angle to the direction of removal in order to obtain sufficient contact with the serrated edge to efiect cutting.
The plate I9 is provided with an aperture 26 disposed-substantially midway; between the; sides of the said-plate and which is arranged to enable easy feeding of the paper between the lip l3 and plate l9.
Additional apertures 21 are; -proy;ided;pn 11agth sides of the aperture 26 to enable easy removal of the top 15 for filling and refillingw I -hus in order to remove the top, the nser of -the devi ee may insert his thumbs through the apertures 21 and use his index fingers to pull up on thelateral- 1y projecting flanges orgfingerholds 2| to release irge ifin cen at rbetwe th -1km, lanee nlw n in enta ion la rp t t ansesi l- "l fi'lfighil a U s i va t e h ekwp eth rto r rre easedeby :t nstheto u war y t d@= ;fl n --l4;fr0m
