The slide means I is held in its as- Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional view of the sembled position by the collar 2] which fits over slide means of the ejector and valve member; the end of member 8 when it is' screwed over the 3 receiver end 3. The base member 8 has a depending inlet duct 25 and an outlet port 26 both of which lie within the confines of the opening 9. The edge 36 in the recess 6 is shown in Fig. 3 as line 36.
As best shown in Fig. 5, the reservoir has a relatively deep portion 28 into which the duct 25 is inserted. The duct 25 makes coincident engagement with the port 29 of passageway I6, and port 26 makes coincident engagement with port 30 of passageway I! when the slide means I is set in the position for smoking shown in Fig. 5. As best shown in Figs. 2 and 4, the reservoir portion of the holder body has a relatively wide base 3| by means of which the cigarette holder is maintained in an upright position when placed upon any fiat surface.
In using the cigarette holder of the invention, the thumb piece [2 is shifted towards the right, as shown in Fig. 1, in which case the ejector plate l9 occupies the position shown in full lines in Fig. 5, and a cigarette may accordingly be inserted into the receiver 3. In this position, port 29 of the passageway I6 efiects coincident engagement with the opening of duct 25 and. the port 30 of passageway I! makes coincident engagement with port 26 of the base member, thereby establishing a continuous passageway for the flow of smoke during the smoking process from the cigarette through the filtering liquid in the reservoir 5 and to the smoker. When the cigarette has been finished, the thumb piece [2 is shifted in the opposite direction (towards the left as shown in Fig. 1) which movement shifts the valve member and the ejector to the position shown in broken lines in Fig. 5, whereby the cigarette is ejected from the holder and the ports 26 and 29 are closed by the valve member. The cigarette holder may accordingly be placed in ones pocket or pocketbook and carried without the liquid being spilled out of the reservoir.
A convenient way to fill the reservoir with the filtering liquid is to remove the collar 2|, lift the ejector-valve combination out of the recess 6 and pour the liquid into the reservoir 5 through the opening 9. When the cigarette holder is thus disassembled, the interior is readily accessible for cleaning.
I claim:
1. A cigarette holder comprising a unitary holder body having a reservoir for a filtering liquid and inlet and outlet passages for the flow of smoke from th cigarette through the reservoir and to the smoker, an ejector for a cigarette slidably mounted in the body, a valve means for opening and closing the passages slidably mounted in the body, and hand means on the exterior of the body for operating both the ejector and valve means simultaneously, whereby liquid is confined in the reservoir when the valve means are closed.
2. A cigarette holder comprising a holder body having a reservoir for a filtering liquid, inlet and outlet passages for the flow of smoke through the reservoir, a duct leading from the inlet passage to the lower part of the reservoir, said body having a recess disposed above the reservoir, a slide means mounted in the recess having an ejector for a cigarette and a valve member for closing the passages when the cigarette is ejected and opening the passages when the cigarette is inserted in said holder body.
3. A cigarette holder according to claim 2, and a collar removably attached to one end of the holder body for receiving a cigarett and also for securing the slide means in position.
4. A cigarette holder comprising a reservoir for a liquid filter, means in the holder for receiving a cigarette to be smoked, passage means in the holder for the flow of smoke from a cigarette'through the liquid in the reservoir to the smoker, a valve member slidably mounted in a space above the reservoir for opening the passage means for the flow of smoke and closing the passage means to confine the liquid in the reservoir, ejector means for ejecting the cigarette from the cigarette receiving means, said ejector means being operatively connected to the valve member, and a thumb piece slidably mounted on the outside of the holder and connected to the valve member, whereby both the valve member and'the ejector can be operated simultaneously as a unitary slide member by means of the thumb piece.
