.vide means facilitating installation of the article on the display and packagingdevice substantially inits normal or operative position so that the purchaser will be enabled to'readily visualize the function; of the article withits movable-parts and the position of its anchoring or fastening elements.
A still further object of the invention is to provide means permitting the attachment of any accessory parts within the confines of the. display and packaging device so that these parts do not interfere when a plurality of such displayUdevices are stacked for shipping or other purposes.
lit is another object of the invention to provide means offering the possibility of reinforcing the display and packaging device by the employment of. certain parts of the article secured to such device. H
Still a further object of this invention is to provide means enabling unskilled'labor to speedily and readily install a hardware orsimilar article in accordance with the display position on the display and packaging device on which said article may be mounted.
' I Still another object of the invention is to provide means affording the assemblage of a hardware or similar article with the display and packaging device in a manner substantially corresponding to the position of the article which it assumes in practice, for instance on a carrier such as a door, whereby also the thickness of such carrier with which such hardware article may be associated becomes apparent from the form of v the display and packaging device.
These and other objects of the invention will be pointed out in the following description and claims and illustrated in the accompanying drawing which discloses, by way of example, the principle of the invention and preferred modes which have been'contemplated for applying said principle.
In the drawing:
.' Fig. 1 shows a side elevational view ofa display and packaging device made in accordance with 6 Claims. (Cl. 206--80) 2 the invention and carrying an article, the latter beingipartly shown in section. I. i r 1 Fig. -2 is a rear elevational View of Fig. 1. Fig-Bis a sectional view taken along lin 3f-3 ofFig.1. Fig. 4 is a side elevational view and w Fig. 5 is a rear elevational View of a display and packaging devicecmade in accordance with this invention and shown in a modified form. Fig-6 is a sectional view taken along line B6 of Fig. 4. I
Fig. 7 is a front elevational view of a display and packaging device in accordance with the invention and shown in a further modified form.
.Fig. 8 is a sectional View through the center of the display and packaging device of Fig. 7 with the article thereof omitted.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing there is disclosed in Figs. 1 and 3 a hollow display and packaging device. In which is substantially U-shaped .in cross-section (Fig. 3). Device I0 ispreferably made of relatively strong cardboard .or 'pressboard material havingithe creases or folds II and I2 whereby the front and rear walls I3 and I4 are formed which, are spaced from each other a predetermined distance, which is indicated by the width of the web I5. The height of the packaging device ID may be chosen according to thelength of thearticle I5 which, in this instance, forms a handle with a push button mechanism I! of known construction. Push button mechanism I1 includes the button proper I8, the rod member I9 which extends through opposite perforations Illa, I9b provided in the front and rear walls I3 and I4, and further a housing 20 carrying the latch 2 I.
According to thepresent construction threaded fastening means or bolts 22 and 23 are employed to engage handle I6 at 22a and 23a.whereby'said handle is fixed in simulated position of use on the front surface 24 of wall I3. Threaded bolts. Hand 23 extend from the outer surface 25 of wall I4 through openings 2% and 23b of rear wall I4 and openings 22a, 23a of wall I3. and threadedly engage the respective rear surface portions I6a and I6?) of handle I6. As can be further seen from Figs. 1 and 2 threaded bolt 22 holds in place on rear wall I4 housing 20 which is provided with upper flange openings 20a for theinsertion of threaded bolt 22'.
Lower flange openings 2017 are provided which in this particular instance are employed to removably hold in place the lower part of housi 20 by'means of a staple 28 which passes through opening 20b and wall I4 to hold on its rear face 5 means when the latter is in engagement with said article. I
4. A device according to claim 1, wherein said walls are spaced from each other at locations of said fastening means when in engagement with said article, and means securing said walls to each other at the remaining portions of said Web means.
5. A device according to claim 1, wherein said Walls are maintained in contact with each other by staples.
6. A display and packaging device for hard- Ware and like articles including fastening means therefor, comprising a panel having a front face to which said article is applied for simulating position of use, folded web means integral with said panel and extending angularly to said front face, said web means including juxtapositioned walls in contact with one another, one of said I ing the latter in substantially parallel and abutting relation to each other.
