This invention relates to a curtain, and more particularly to a tie back for maintaining a curtain in gathered condition.

The object of the invention is to provide a tie back for a curtain having a substantially vertical rufiie, the'tie back being arranged and constructed so that the curtain can be maintained in gathered condition without the necessity of having the cord of the tie back passing around this rufiie.

Another object of the invention is to provide a tie back for a curtain having a substantially vertical rufiie, the tie back including a casing secured to the main body of the curtain, there being a cord or tape slidably arranged in the casing, and there being a ruffle mounted on this cord which is adapted to be folded over the casin when the ends of the cord are attached to a fastening whereby an eflicient and attractive means is provided for maintaining the curtain in gathered condition.

A further object of the invention is to provide a curtain which is extremely simple and inexpensive to manufacture.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent during the course of the following description.

In the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this application, and in which like numerals are used to designate like parts throughout the same:

Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the curtain, according to the present invention;

Figure 2 is a sectional view taken on the line 2-2 of Figure 1;

Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the line 3-3 of Figure 1; a

Figure 4 is a longitudinal sectional view through the tie back and curtain; and

Figure 5 is a fragmentary front elevational view, showing the curtain in gathered condition.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the numeral Ill designates a curtain for a window and the curtain includes a body member I I. Arranged along the upper horizontal edge of the body member I I and secured thereto, is a rufiie I 2, there being a similar ruffle I3 arranged contiguous to the lower edge of the body member I I. Suitable stitching I4, Figure 1, serves to secure the rufiie I4 to the body member II. Ihe curtain I is further provided with a substantially vertical rufiie I which is secured to the body member II by a suitable line of stitching I6.

The present invention is directed to a tie back whereby the curtain can be efiiciently and attractively maintained in gathered position, as shown in Figure 5, the tie back serving to maintain the curtain in gathered position without the necessity of having the cord of the tie back pass around the rufiie I5. The tie back comprises an elongated strap II which is secured to the body member by suitable lines of stitching I8 and I9 and the strap I1 and body member II coact to define a casing for slidably receiving therein a cord or tape 20. Secured to one end of the cord 20 is a ring 2| which is adapted to be arranged in engagement with a nail or other fastening member that may be secured to the window frame. The strap I! is inclined from the horizontal and the strap extends from the left vertical edge of the member I I to the right edge thereof.

Slidably arranged on the cord 20 is arufiie 23. An elongated strap 24 is secured to the rufiie 23 by suitable lines of stitching 25 and 26 and the strap 26 and rufiie coact to define a space therebetween for slidably receiving the cord 20. The rufiie 23 is adapted to overlie the strap I! when the curtain is in gathered condition, as shown in Figure 5.

From the foregoing, it is apparent that a tie back for a curtain has been provided with which the curtain can be maintained safely and attractively in gathered condition. Thus, in use, the rufiie 23 is arranged in front of the strap I1. Then, the ring 2|, and the other end of the cord 20 are arranged in engagement with a nail 22 or the like so that the curtain will assume the position shown in Figure 5. Further, the tie back is so constructed that the curtain will be maintained in gathered condition without having the cord 20 passing around the rufiie I5. This will enhance the attractiveness of the curtain and prevent damage thereto.

What I claim is: 1. In a curtain including a body member, and

a substantially vertical rufiie secured to said body member, the improvement consisting of providing a tie back for maintainin said curtain in gathered condition, said tie back comprising an elongated strap secured to said body member and coacting with the latter to define a casing, said strap extending from a vertical edge of said body member to the inner edge of said vertical ruffle on the face of said body member, a cord slidably arranged in said casing, an attaching ring secured to one end of said cord, and a rufiie slidably mounted on said cord and adapted to overlie the casing on the face of the body member to retain the curtain in gathered condition when said ring and the other end of said cord are drawn and fixed to a support.

In a curtain, a body member, a horizontally disposed rufile arranged along the upper edge of said body member and secured thereto, a substantially vertical ruflie arranged along an edge of said body member and secured thereto, an inclined strap extending from a vertical edge of said body member to the inner edge of said substantially vertical ruflie, said strap having its 1ongitudinal edges secured to the face of said body member whereby said strap and body member 00- act to defineza casing, a cord rslidably arranged in said casing "and having a ring secured to an end thereof, an elongated ruflie having a strap secured thereto, said strap and last-named rufile coasting to define a space therebetween for slidably receiving said cord and said curtain is retained in gathered position with said last mamed 4 ruffle overlying the casing on the face of the body member when said ring and the other end of said cord are drawn and fixed to a support.
