A A V SHOW B0X.`
No. 2577.915. YPatellted May 16, 1882.

UNITED STATES PATENT QFEICE.
MISIDORE BIRG, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
veHow-sox.
l SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 257,915, dated May 16, 11882.
Application tiled January 25, 1882. (No model.)
To all whom it may conce-rn:
Be it known that I, IsIDoRE Breen, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia, State ot Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Show-Boxes, which improvementJ is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawings, in which- Figure l is a front elevation of the` box embodying my invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section thereof, the box being opened. Fig. 3 is a view of the box in an inverted condition, partly broken away.
Similar letters ot' reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.
My invention consists ot' a show-box, more especially for bonnets, hats, and caps, having a transparent front, an opening through Vits bottom, and a removable standard, which lat- `ter is adapted to be sustained in the opening within oron the outside ofthe box.
Referring to the drawings, A represents a box consisting ofthe top and bottom sections a and b, the top section being hinged to the bottom section and constituting the lid ofthe box, the upper edges `ot' the sides oit' the bottom section and lower edges of the sides ofthe top section being preferably diagonal, so that when the lid is turned up in order to open the box it has a large sweep, thus avoiding the striking of the bonnet, oto., sustained within Vthe box, and the box, when fully opened, presents the appearance of an inclined plane, which increases the attractiveness of the box. The
front face, B, of the upper section of the box is occupied by a pane of glass, whereby when the box is closed the bonnet, &c.`, within the same may be readily viewed withoutexposing the article to dust, handling, '&c., and when the lid is thrown back said glass front is at the rear of the box, wherebyit is not liable. to be struck and broken while the contents of the box are being inspected. Furthermore, as the front of the upper section occupies almost entirely the t'ront of the box, the greater portion of the interior ot' the box is exposed., and the article therein may be seen to the best advantage.
C represents a standard or support for the bonnet or other article within the box, the same having its lower end, c, threaded to engage with a threaded opening, d, passed entirely through the bottom ot' the box, whereby said standard is securely sustained in an up right position, and may be easily removed when required. 4W'hen the .standard is displaced the box is inverted and the standard screwed into the opening d, now at the top ot' the box, as in Fig. 3, whereby the bonnet, Sto., may be placed on the standard and exhibited outside ot' the box.
In order to securely sustain the standard C, the bottom of the box has secured to it a block, C', having a threaded opening, which coincides with the opening d and provides an enlarged bearing for the end o ot' the standard.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The box A, having a glass, B, and au opening, d, through its bottom, in combination with the removable standard C, said standard being adapted to be sustained in the opening within or on the outside of the box, substantially' as and for t-he purpose set forth.
