UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH H. 0M0, OF BLISSFIELD, MICHIGAN.
COMBINED MOP HOLDE R AND WRINGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 255,448, dated March 28, 1882.
Application filed September 10, 1881.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known thatLJosEPH H. 0310,01? Blissfield, in the county of Lenawee and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Mop Holders and Wringers; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it ap'pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification.
Figurel isaperspective view of my improved mop holder and wringer. Fig. 2 is atop view of the same, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical section.
Corresponding parts in the several figures are denoted by like letters of reference.
Thisinvention relates to combined mop holders and wringers; and it consists in certain improvements in the construction of the same, which will be hereinafter fully described, and particularly pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings hereto annexed, A represents a rod or stem, to the end of which is hinged a double loop, B, formed of wire, and consisting of one narrow and one wide loop, denoted respectively by (l and D, and formed of a single piece of wire, the small or narrow loop 0 being adjusted in a transverse pcrforation, E, in the stem A.
F is a sheet-metal sleeve sliding upon the stem A,andcarryinga U shaped bail, P, formed of wire, said bail being flattened or spread at its outer end, as shown at G, and provided with a ring, H, adapted to encircle the end of stem A. The latter is provided with a spring latch or catch,'I, adapted to retain the (No model.)
sleeve F and hold the mop in position for operation.
It will be noted that the ends of the bail P are secured to the outside of the sleeve F,'
which is thus provided with a handle or gripe, Q, enabling it to be conveniently turned or twisted in the act of wringing the mop.
In operation the mop-cloth is secured by its ends to the bail P, and to the double loop B. After soaking the mop-cloth it may be wrung by twisting the sleeve F upon. handle A, thus twisting the cloth between the loops P and B. After doing this the cloth may be untwisted and the sleeve F drawn back and engaged with catch 1, thus folding the cloth and enabling the device to be, used for mopping purposes.
This invention is simple, convenient, inexpensive, and durable, and the mopping-cloth may be wrung more conveniently and with less power than with devices now in use.
Having thus described rnyinvention, Iclaim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesy In a combined mop holder and wringer, the combination of the handle A, having hinged loop 0 D, with the sliding sleeve F, having bail P, the end of which is flattened at G, and provided with a ring, H, adapted to encircle the end of the handle, as described, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that Iolaim the foregoing as my own I have hereto afiixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
