Unire@ States PATENT Garten.
THEODORE SUHAFER,.OF MARCA, ILLINOIS.
STOVE-PIPE SHELF.
SPECIFICATION formingpart of Letters vPatent No. 255,339, dated March 21, 1882.
Application filed January 30, 1882.
To all whom zt may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORESGHAFER, oi' Maroa, in the county ot- Macon and State oi' Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Stove-Pipe Shelves; and I do hereby declare the following to bea i'ull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use it, reference being [o had to the accompanying drawings, which form part of this specitication.
My invention relates to an improvement in stove-pipe shelves; and it consists in the combination of a number ot sections of aring or band, which are pivoted together by means ot screws or bolts, and which pieces are slotted, so that the supporting-pieces in which the rods or arms are placed can be moved back and forth, so as to be arranged in any desired relation to each other.
It still further consists in the combination of parts of a ring or band which are pivoted together by means of bolts or screws, and which are slotted, so as to receive the supporting rods or arms, and which parts are connected togeth. er by means of catches, which are fastened or formed upon one part and which pass through holes made in the other part, whereby the ring or band can be adjusted to [it stove-pipes ot' dit'- ferent diameters. Y Y
The object of my invention is to form a ring or band which can be attached to stove-pipes of different sizes, and to which are fastened sliding supporting-pieces, in which the rods or arms upon which the articles to be dried are hung, which supporting'pieces can be adjusted back and forth, so as to bring the arms over or to one side of the stove.
Figure l is a side elevation of my invention complete. Fig. 2 is a plan view ot' the same.
A represents the sections of which the ring or band is composed, and which are fastened together by means of the bolts or screws B, whichare passed through the ears O, which are formed upon the sections. Each one of these sections ot' the band or ring which is to be applied to the stove-pipe is slotted nearly its entire length, so as to allow the supportingpieces D, which are provided with the tubular 5o sockets F upon their outer sides, to be applied (Model.)
to the sections and 'moved back and forth, so
as to bring the arms upon which the articles to be dried are hung, and which have their inner ends bent so as to lit in the tubular sockets in anydesired relation to each other. 'lhe tubu- 55 lar sockets are fastened to the supportingpieces in such a manner as to extend some little distance outward from the pieces, and this shank which joins the` sockets to the pieces slides back and forth inthe slot which is made 6o in each piece. Each one ot these supportingpieces is provided with a flange, G, upon its top edge, so as to catch over thc top of thc section to which it is applied, and thus form a stop which will prevent the supporting-piece from sinking downward and which will serve to keep the supporting-piece in an uprightposition. Also, formed near the lower end of the supporting-piece is a ridge or crease, I, which catches against the under sideot thelower edge 7o of the section, and this crease and the flange which is formed upon the upper edge of the supporting-piece prevent the piece from turning around or getting crooked.
Upon two of the sections out of which the 7'5 ring or hand is composed are made suitable projections or catches, a, which pass through corresponding holes which are made in the adjoining ends ofthe other sections. By means ot' these catches and holes the sections can be 8o formed into a larger or smaller ring or band, so as to tit different-sized stove-pipes. When the ring or band is applied to the pipe the supporting-pieces are in direct contact with the pipe, while the band is held in pla-ce by frictional contact alone. The supporting-rods, which have their inner ends bent at right angles, are applied to the tubular sockets, and then the rods extend outward at any desired angle. When desired, the supporting-pieces may be 9o moved laterally in the slot in which they1 are held, so as to bring the supporting-rods either out directly over the stove or in any desired relation thereto.
Having thus described my invention, I claiml. A rin g or band to be applied to stove-pipes, com posed of sections which are slotted, in combination withl sliding supportingpieces which are provided with suitable sockets to receive roo the ends of the supporting rods or arms7 subthe ring or band to diHerent-sized pipes, substantially as shown.
2. vA ring or band to henpplied tostovepipes, which is formed in sections which are bolted 5 together, which sections are slotted, in combination with the sliding supporting-pieces pro vided with tubular sockets IAnd suitable means for fastening the ends together, so as to adjust stantially as set forth. 1o
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
THEODORE SGHAFER. Witnesses:
JOHN SMELZ, P. O. TRYNER.
