This application is a substitute application for my application, Serial No. 215,755, led June 25, 1938, now abandoned.
. This invention relates to improvements in safety razors.
An important object of the invention is to provide an inexpensive safety razor having an integral razor blade whereby the entire razor must be disposed of after the blade becomes too dull for shaving purposes.
Another feature of the invention is a safety razor wherein the blade and its holder constitute a single unit` which is simple and inexpensive in construction to enable its user to economically dispose of the entire unit after a limited number of shaves, thus eliminating the usual practice and annoyance of removing a used blade from its holder and replacing the same with a new o-ne.
A. further object of the invention is the provision of a safety razor unit in which the razor blade and holder is constructed from a single blank of bendable metal.
A still further feature of the invention is the provision of a razor bla-de holder in which the handle thereof is constructed of a pair of winglike elements exibly connected to the underside of the razor head to enable compact folding of the elements-against the head for packing purposes, and which elements may be flexed outwardly and brought into confronting relationto handle forming position when the razor is to used for shaving.
Other novel features of construction will be apparent as the following specication is read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 2 is a top plan view of the form of the invention shown in Figure 1, with the parts in operative relation.
Figure 3 is an enlarged vertical longitudinal sectional view on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.

Figure 5 is a plan view of a blank showing a somewhatmodied form.
Figure 6 is a top plan view of the form shown in Figure 5 with the parts in assembled relation.

In connection with the invention herein, I have illustrated lvarious embodiments of a safety razor in which the blade is formed integral with the holder, and each specific form of such con-v struction will be described.
In the form illustrated in Figures l to 4 inclusive, the letter G designates a blank of bendable metal cut to provide a double edge cutting blade 98 at one end thereof, and to one end of which a clamping plate 9| is connected along the line of fold 92. Equidistantly spaced on opposite sides of the line of fold 92 are slots 93 and 84 respectively provided in the blade gil and clamp 9|. The clamping plate 9i is connected to a guard plate along the line of fold 96, the guar-d plate having rows of spaced slots 91 inwardly of its `longitudinal edges and the said edges are folded on the dot and dash lines 98 to provide guard teeth for the longitudinal sides of the guard plate. Struck out from the guard plate Q5 is a prong 99 which is so located as to pass through the slots 93 and 94 when the parts are in folded position in the manner `presently to be explained. Co-nnected to the guard plate 95 along the line of fold |60 is an arm IUI to which a finger piece or handle |62 is connected along the line of fold |03. In folding the blank G the blade 9|) is folded over the clamping plate Sl on the fold line il?, thus causing the slots 93 and 94 to register. The clamping plate 9| is next folded on the line 96 which positions the blade 96 intermediate the clamping plate 9| and the guard plate 95. The prong 99 is struck upwardly so as to pass through the alined slots 93 and 94, after which the prong is bent over the clamping plate 9| as best illustrated in Figure 3. The arm |6| is folded beneath the guard plate 95 and secured by the slotted longitudinal edges of the guard plate. The handle or nger piece |62 may now be bent at right angle to the arm i Ell to provide a finger grip for the holding of the razor when in use.
In Figures 5 to 8 inclusive, the razor is constructed from a single blank of bendable metal H which is cut to provide a double edge cutting blade |04 having a relatively large rectangular slot |05 provided therein. One end of the blade |04 is connected to one end of a guard plate |06 along a line of fold |01, the said guard plate having a centrally located H-shaped slot |08 to facilitate the outward striking of longitudinal prongs or flanges |09 which are intended to pass through the slot when the blank is folded into razor forming position. Inwardly of the longitudinal edges of the guard plate |08 are rows of spaced slots IIB, the longitudinal edges of the guard plate being foldable on the dot and dash lines I I to form guard edges for the guard plate. Con'-l nected to the other end of the guard plate |06 along the line of fold II2 is a reinforcing plate IIL! to which an IE6 is connected along Athe line of fold H5. A finger piece H36 is connected to the arm II@ along the line of fold |I1. In this form, the blade |04 is folded over the guard plate |06 along the line of fold |07, after which the prongs or flanges |09 are bent upwardly to extend through the slot |65 of the blade, the 'said prongs being bent outwardly in opposite directions as best 'illustrated in Figures 6 and l8. 'Ihe reinforcing plate I I6 is next bent under the guard plate Iii-5 along the fold 'II2, after which the arm 1I I4 is folded at against the plate IIS along the line I I5 and when the razor is to be used, the finger piece 1I I6 is bent on the fold line II? so as to extend at right angles from the arm II4 and provide the necessary nge'r grip for holding the razor when in use. The reinforcing 'plate lI I3 is held against the -guard plate |66 by reason of the under folding of the longitudinal edges `of the guard plate along the fold llines III and which folded portions lap the plate 'I I3 as Well as by reason of the prongs I I3' being passed up through the opening in guard plate |06, resulting from flanges |09 being bent over blade |04, and being bent over onto blade |04, as seen in Figures 6 and 7.
In Figures 9 to 11 inclusive, substantially the same construction as that shown in Figures 5 to 8 inclusive is provided, with the exception that in the preceding form, only one handle or finger element was provided, In order to provide the added finger grip element, the blank is formed with an arm Iig which is connected to rone end o'f the blade IM along the line of fold II9 and extending beyond the arm I8 is a finger element |20 foldable on the line I2I. In this form of blank, the reinforcing plate II3 is first folded under the guard plate |06, thereafter the blade |04 is folded over the guard and locked .thereto by the prongs or flanges |09, the arm i I4 folded parallel to plate II3 and the nger element IIB is bent at right angle to the arm II4, after which the arm I I0 is folded around and beneath the reinforcing plate I ISand the finger piece |20 bent at right angle thereto to coact with the finger piece IIS and provide the necessary finger grip for the user. Also in this form, the under bent longitudinal edges'of the guard plate overlie the arms |I4 and IIB as illustrated in Figure l1.
Whereas I have mentioned that the razor unit may be constructed of`steel, I wishit to be understood that in instances where the blade is formed separate and joined lto the holder, the holder may be constructed of sheet aluminum. Also, in instances where the vblade is integral with the lioldeig'the entire unit is constructed of steel but only the cutting blade is heat treated for sharpening purposes.
lWhile I have shown and described what Icon- Sider to be the preferred embodiments of my invention, I wish it to be'understood Vthat other modifications thereof may be resorted to as come within the scope of the appended claims.
I claim: v
l. A razor comprising a bent strip with a guard section and a clamping section united to each other, a handle united to the guard section, a blade united to the clamping section, said blade and said clamping section being folded transversely of said strip to overlie the guard section with the blade between said sections, the handle being bent outward at the middle of the guard section, the guard section having securing means engaging the ,clamping section and blade.
2. A r-a/zor comprising a bent strip with a guard section and a clamping section united t0 each other, a handle united to the guard section, a blade united to the clamping section, said blade and said clamping section being folded transversely of said strip to overlie the guard section with the blade between said sections, the handle being bent outward at the middle of the guard section, the guard section having securing means engaging the clamping section and blade, said guard section having transverse slots along its lateral edges and being doubled over midway of said slots, lengthwise of said strip and away from said blade to form projections along the edges of the blade.
3. A razor comprising a bent strip having a blade adjacent one end and a handle at the other, a clamping section and another section united to each other between the blade and the handle, said blade and said clamping section being folded transversely of said strip to overlie the other section with the blade between said sections, the handle being turned to project outward at the middle of said sections and securing means engaging said blade and said other section.
4. A razor comprising a bent strip having a blade adjacent one end and a handle at the other, a clamping section and another section united to each other between the blade and the handle, said blade and said clamping section being folded transversely of said strip to overlie the other section with the blade between said sections, the handle being turned to project-outward at the middle of said sections and securing means -engaging said blade and said other section, one of said sections having transverse slots along its lateral edges and being bent midway of the slots lengthwise and away from the blade to form projections along the edges of the blade.
