1 This invention relates to new and useful improvements in dispensing machines and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a combination cigarette and match dispenser that will discharge matches and cigarettes into separate, easily accessible bins at each end of the machine.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a dispensing member including novel and improved means for ejecting a single match or cigarette from the same into receiving bins upon actuation of said member in one direction.

A further object of the present invention is to provide a dispensing machine embodying feed chutes disposed within a closed sanitary housing and including novel and improved closure means that may be quickly and readily actuated for the placement of articles to be discharged onto the feed chutes.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a combination cigarette and match dispenser that is simple and practical in construction, strong and reliable in use, neat and attractive in appearance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure l is a perspective view of the dispensing machine constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is a longitudinal vertical sectional View taken substantially through the center of Figure 1, showing the cigarette ejector member in a lowered position, the match ejectormember in a raised position for ejecting a match and with parts of the device broken away and shown in section;

Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of broken section line 3-3 of Figure 2; and

Figure 4 is a perspective view of the cigarette ejector member used in conjunction with the present invention.

Referring now to the drawings in detail wherein, for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed the preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral I represents a substantially rectangular housing generally, comprising a pair of spaced parallel side walls [2 and a pair 2 of spaced parallel end walls I 4. The vertical edges I6 of these walls l2 and M are rigidly secured to the upper portions I8 of a plurality of legs 2B that support the housing in an elevated position.

Horizontally extending discharge openings 22 and 24 are provided in the end walls It, and communicate with preferably horizontally disposed receiver bins 26 and 28 that are fixedly secured to the outer faces of the end walls. by the use of stantially rectangular members 48 and 50 that are mounted within the housing. Hinged at to the upper edges of each of the members 48 and 50 is a pair of ejector members or sections 62 and 64 that are provided with guide lugs or protuberances 66 at their ends 68 that also slidably engage the grooves ill and 42, and which further engage arcuate grooves 10 and 12 provided at the upper terminals of grooves 40 and 42 for pivotal movement of the hinged sections 62 and 64 upon the inclined surfaces to and 38, as the members 48 and 50 are moved vertically upward in grooves ll) and 42.

Extending transversely between the side walls l2, on both sides of the members 48 and 50, are support bars 14 and 16 that engage the upper terminals of coil springs 78 and 80 that are removably secured adjacent the arcuate terminals 88 of anchor members or rods 84 carried by the lowerportions of members 58 and 50.

Rigidly secured to the opposing faces of members 48 and 50, adjacent their lower edges, are

support and stop strips 86 that removably engage the outturned ends 88 of rigid crank levers 90 having their arcuate outer free portions 92 slidably mounted in vertical guide openings 94 provided in one of the side walls l2.

Secured to the side walls i2, beneath troughs 32 and 34, is a pair of inclined feed chutes 96 and 98, the lower edges H10 of which terminate adjacent the members 48 and 5B. A vertical transverse panel N12 is secured between the side members I2 and spaced relative to the opposing faces of members t8 and 50. This panel H12 supports a pair of downwardly diverging or inclined main cigarettes of the chutes against the opposed faces of members 50 and 48.

Bearing upon the upper edges H2 f the side walls 12 and end walls I4 is a closure I M having a peripheral depending flange H6 that loosely embraces the walls 52 and M. This closure H4 is provided with a slidable door or entrance panel I I8 which may be opened for the placement of matches I20 on the main feed chute I06 and cigarettes I22 on the main feed chute 684.

In practical use of the device, the members 48 and 50 are normally in a raised position, with the strips 88 irictionally bearing against the strips i ii], the guide lugs 60 engaged inarcuate grooves to pivot the sectionsEiZ and .64 against the inclined surfaces 38 and 38, and the matches and H36 and E84 bearing To dispense a cigarette from the chute I04, it is merely necessary to force the crank lever 98 downwardly so that a cigarette may engage a channeled groove or chamber I24 provided in the upper edge of section 62, which will also permit cigarettes on the chute I84, by gravity, toroll upon the chute 98, as shown in Figure 2. By releasing the crank lever 90, the springs 18 and 80 will slide the member 58 upwardly, the section 62 will pivot upon the inclined surface 36 and the cigarette will roll upon the surface 38 into the bin 28. Obviously, a similar procedure may be followed for discharging matches into the bin 28 from the match chamber or groove I26 provided in the upper edge of member 68.

It should be noted that the openings 94 in the side walls terminate adjacent the lower edge of the side walls, to limit the downward movement of the members 48 and 50 and thus position the chambers at the upper edges of sections 62 and Ell in communication with the lower edges I08 and 183 of the feed chutes.

In view of the foregoing description taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, it is believed that a clear understanding of the device will be quite apparent to those skilled in this art. A more detailed description is accordingly deemed unnecessary.

It is to be understood, however, that even though there is herein shown and described a preferred embodiment of the invention, the same is susceptible to certain changes fully comprehended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and within the scope of the appended claims.

Having described the invention, what is claimed as new is:

1. In a dispenser for cylindrical objects including a housing having spaced side walls and end walls, receiving bin having a bottom wall, and an inclined feed chute, a slidable substantially rectangular member carried by the housing, guide ribs carried by said member, said side walls having substantially vertical grooves slidably engaging said guide ribs, an upper section hinged to said member, said hinged section having a recess therein for receiving an article from the feed chute upon actuation of said member to a lowered position, means connecting said member to said housing and also yieldingly retaining the member in a raised position, said side walls having arcuate grooves communicating with the upper ends of said vertical grooves, and guide lugs carried by said hinged section for reception in said arcuate grooves upon actuation of said member to a raised position to pivot said hinged section relative to the member and against the bottom wall of the receiving bin.

2. The combination of claim 1, and a crank handle carried by said member for lowering and guiding the vertical sliding movement of said member, one side wall of said housing having a vertical opening slidably receiving said handle.

3. A dispenser for cylindrical objects comprising a housing having a pair of downwardly sloping walls therein,.said walls having lower edges that-are spaced to provide an opening, said housing having a pair of vertical-grooves intersecting the opening between the lower'edges of said walls,

a substantially rectangular member received in said housing for sliding movement, ribs at the ends of said member slidably received in said grooves, a stop strip secured to one face of said member for engaging the lower edge of one of said walls to limit upwardsliding movement of said member relative to said housing, an anchor arm projecting laterally from said stop strip, an

elongated spring member terminally secured to said :anchor arm and. said housing for yieldingly urging themember to a raised position with the stop strip against the lower edge of one of said walls, an elongated ejector strip on the upper end of said member, hinges securing said strip to said ,member for lateral swinging movement of said ejector strip relative to said member, a vertically inclined delivery surface mounted in said housing and overlying one of said walls, said housing having a pair of arcuate grooves communicating with said vertical grooves and curving toward said dea livery surface, lugsat the ends of said strip resecured to said stop strip.
