This invention relates to improvements in dispensing containers for cigarettes or the like, and more particularly to a device for this purpose to be carried in the pocket of a garment and to dispense cigarettes either one or two at a time.

The primary object of the invention is to provide a dispensing container of simple and inexpensive construction, and including a pusher actuated b elastic means for feeding cigarettes toward ejecting position from which they may be forced endwise from the container by simple ejectors.

With the foregoing object outlined and with other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in the novel features hereinafter described in detail, illustrated in the accompanying drawings, and more particularly pointed out in the appended claims.

Referring to the drawings, 8 designates a case or housing of any suitable rigid material, such as metal or plastics, provided with side walls 9, end walls H], a stationary bottom H and a cover l2, hinged at one end, as shown at I3, to the upper edge of one of the end walls, and provided at its opposite end with a resilient latch M designed to cooperate with an aperture [5 in one of the end walls, to hold the cover in closed position.

FiXedly arranged within the receptacle, near to and parallel with the bottom H, is a guide floor it serving as a guideway for a pusher I1, vertically arranged in the container between the parts l2 and I6, and provided with a foot I8 having inwardly extending lugs I 9 slidably in grooves 20 arranged in the opposite side edges of the floor IS.

The pusher is constantly urged toward one end wall of the container by means of elastic cords 2|, of rubber, coil springs, or the like. Each cord has one of its ends secured to the bottom of the pusher, as indicated at 22, and its other end secured to one of the end walls of the case, as shown at 23. Intermediate portions of the cords pass about a roller 24, journaled in the casing and arranged transversely of the latter, adjacent to one of the end walls of the case. As shown in Fig. 5, the floor I'6 terminates at 25 to enable the cords to travel over the floor from the pusher to the roller, and under the floor from the roller to the anchorage 23.

Adjacent the roller 24, I provide slidable ejectors 29, each of which passes through the bottom of the case and terminates in a handle 27. The upper end of each pusher terminates in an abutment 28, and between a stop 29 within the receptacle, and the bottom of the latter, a coil spring 30 surrounds the ejector rod to normally hold the handle 27 in projected position.

For ejecting purposes, the cover I2 is provided in alignment with the ejectors, with an opening 3| normally closed by a lid 32, pivotally connected to the lid at 33, and provided with a handle 34.

In order to move the pusher l1 into retracted position and thus stretch the cords 2|, an inelastic cord 35 is connected to the foot of the pusher at 36. This cord extends through a hole in one of the end walls l0 and may terminate in a knob or ball 36 In using the device, the cover is opened, as indicated in Fig. 4, and. while the body of the case is held in one hand, the knob 33 is pulled away from the receptacle to place the pusher I! in retracted position. Afterwards cigarettes or the like, indicated at 31, are introduced endwise into the case and then the cover I2 is closed. When it is desired to dispense one or more cigarettes, the lid 32 is swung into the position indicated in Fig. 4, and then the handle or handles of the ejectors can be pushed to force cigarettes upwardly by means of the abutments 28. When a cigarette or cigarettes have been elevated in this way. they will project from the case, as is evident from Fig. 6 so that they may be readily grasped and withdrawn. When this happens, the pusher ll will be automatically fed forward by the cord or cords 2| to move other cigarettes forward to replace the ones withdrawn. As soon as the handle 2'! of the ejector is released, its spring 30 will automatically return it to normal position.

From the foregoing, tion and advantages readily understood,

it is believed the construcof the invention may be and it is apparent that changes may be made in the details disclosed without departing from the spirit of the invention, as expressed in the following claims.

What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:

1. A device for dispensing cigarettes or the like comprising a rectangular casing having stationary side walls, end walls and a bottom, and a top that can be opened to permit access to the interior of the container, a guide floor arranged in the container near the bottom thereof and parallel to said bottom, a pusher in the containerguided by said guideway and arranged substanof the guideway and adjacent to one of the end tially perpendicular thereto, a roller in the container positioned at one end of the guideway and adjacent to one of the end walls, an elastic cord having one of its ends secured to the pusher,

passing about the roller and having its other end secured to a fixed portion of the casing at a point beneath the guideway, an ejector arranged in the casing adjacent to said roller and having a handle below the bottom of the containena doorway in the cover in vertical alignment with the ejector, and a lid normally closing said doorway- 2.
