Substitute for abandoned application Serial No. I
558,497,- ctober-13, 1944. This application March 6, 1947, Serial No. 732,739
2 claims.` (c1. 2---2215` l This invention relates to new and useful improvements in a combination skirt and panty.
This is a substitute for my previous abandoned application, led on October 13, 1944, Serial No. 558,497. i
More specifically, the invention proposed the construction of a combination skirt and panty characterized by a skirt body having an invisible crotch portion and which is adapted to be used in playsuits, bathing suits, skirts and other similar garments worn bygirls and women.
AMore specifically, the invention proposed the construction of a combination skirt and panty characterizedby a cloth..tubular member forming a skirt-like body and having cloth panels mounted on the front Wall and on the back wall thereof iorming double layer portions in these areas to shadow proof the same.
Still another object of the invention proposes forming a crotch between the inner layers of the double layer portions of the combination skirt and panty in a manner to hold the bottom por-'- tion of the garment in a position in which it will clingto the contouroi the body. l
Still another object of the invention proposes the formation of pleats at the point of connection between the side edgesl of the panels with the skirt-like body in a manner to provide the bottom thereof with expanding portions, permitting free leg movement.
Still another object of the invention proposes cutting ap portions from the abdomen areas and the inner layers of the double layer portions and which may be extended against the abdomen or about the sides of the body and which are adapted to be connected together by means of laces passing through aligned openings formed in the adjacent free edges of the iiap portions.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
In the accompanying drawings forming a material part ci this disclosure:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a combination skirt and panty constructed in accordance with this invention.
Fig. 2 is a bottom plan View of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is an enlarged partial horizontal sectional view taken on the line 3--3 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 4 is an enlarged partial vertical sectional view taken on the line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Fig. sis a view similar to Fig. 3 butA illustrate;
Fig. 9 is a View similar to Fig. 6 butillustrating an adjusted position of the panels.
Fig. 10 is a partial horizontal sectional view'4 taken on the line III-,I0 of Fig. 9.` j
Fig. l1 is a view similar to Fig. 7 vbutillustrating another form theinvention The combination skirt and panty, according to` this invention, includes a, `r-cloth tubular member I forming a skirt-like body and whichvhas cloth panels II mounted on the front wall and the back wall thereof. These cloth panels I I are extended externally of the skirt-like body and have I their edges secured to the adjacent faces of the skirt-like :body-by -means of' stitches I2. A crotch I3 is fashioned between the inner layers of they double layerA portions formed by engaging the panels Ilrupon the front and back walls of the skirt-like body. 1 Thecrotch portion I3 is of conventionaly construction-and is provided for causing the bottom Aportion of the garment to cling to the contour ofthe body.
Pleats IB are formed at thepoint of connec-L tion between the side edges of the panels II with the skirt-like body I0. The pleats I4 in this rst form of the invention have portions IIa formed in the skirt-like body III and opposed portions Mb formed in the adjacent side edges of the panels II. The top portions of the pleats I4 from the waist area partially downwards along the front and back thereof are maintained in a closed p0- sition by means of vertical lines of stitches I5.
A Waist engaging band I6 is mounted along the top edges of the skirt-like body Il) and the panels I I and is secured in position by means of a line of stitches I'I.
In the modication of the invention shown in Fig. 5 the panels II are projected along the inside faces of the front and back walls of the cloth tubular member I0 which forms the skirt-like body. The crotch I3 in this form of the invention is formed between the panel portions II while the pleats I4 are formed entirely in the skirt-like body formed by the cloth tubular member IU. In other respects this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
In the modification of the invention shown in Figs. 6-10 the construction of the combination skirt andv panty is similar to that shown in Figs. 1-4, except for the abdominal areas of the inner layers of the double layer portions which are formed by engaging the panels Il in position over the front and back walls of the skirt-like body I0. In this form of the invention the abdominal areas of the garment are provided with laterally extending iap portions 20 which are out from the double layer of material and which are adapted to be extended across the abdominal area of the garment, as shown in Figs, 6 and 7, or to the sides of the garment, as shown in Figs. 9 and 10. The adjacent free edges f these aps 20 are provided with aligned openings 2l through which a lace 22 is adapted to be engaged for connecting these free edges of the fla-p portions together. Thus the flap portion may be drawn together to apply pressure to the abdomen portions of the body or to the hip areas, depending upon the direction in which these ap portions are projected. In other respects` this form of the invention is similar to that previously shown and like reference numerals identify like parts in each of the several views.
lInFig. 11 each :pleat I4" is formed by folding the panel portion ll-" at its ends Iland thereafter stitchingthe same to the tubular member I0 and to an inner panel Ilcr by stitches I2".
While I have illustrated and described the preferred embodiments of my invention, it is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions herein disclosed and the right is reserved to all changes and modifications coming within the scope of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desirev to secure by United States- Letters Patent is:
1. In a garment having a tubular body formed at the bottom with a crotch portion and panels extended along the front and back of the body forming double layers of material at the front and back between the top of the body and the top of the crotch, a pair of front flaps cut from the material of the body at the front thereof in the area of double layer material, a pair of rear aps cut from the material of the body at the back thereof in the area of double layer material, said flaps being on a common plane and integral with the body at the outer edges thereof so that the pairs of flaps may be extended with their free edges facing each other or extended along the inner sides of the body with the free edges of the front flaps facing the free edges of the rear aps, and means for releasably connecting together the free edges of said flaps in either of their two positions.
2. In a garment having a tubular body formed at its bottom with a crotch portion and panels extended along the front and back of the body forming double layers of material at the front and back between the top of the body and the top of the crotch, a pair of front flaps cut from the material of the body at the front thereof in the area of double layer material, a pair of rear flaps cut from the material of the body at the back thereof in the area of double layer material, said flaps being on a common plane and integral with the body at the outer edges thereof so that the pairs of iiaps may be. extended with their free edges facing each other or extended along the inner sides of the body With the free edges of the front aps facing the free edges of the rear flaps, and means for releasably connecting together the free edges of said aps in either of their two positions, said releasable connecting means comprising laces extended between horizontally aligned pairs of openings formed in the free edges of said flaps.
