The present invention relates generally to Wall forms. More particularly the invention relates to that type of wall form which is primarily designed and adapted for use in the formation of a concrete wall or like s ructure and as its components comprises: (1) a pair of opposed, spaced apart series of upstanding abutting panels of'the rectangular frame and facing variety; (*2) a plurality of horizontally disposed combined tie and spreader rods which extend between the two series of panels and have the ends thereof'pr-ovided with vloops and extending through holes in the facings of the panels; and (3) a plurality of devices which are in the form of brackets on the panel frames and slidably mounted loop receiving bolts on 'thebrackets and serve releasably to lock the ends of the combined tie and spreader rods to the panels in order to hold the two series of panels against relative lateral displacement .in connection with pouring of concrete therebetween for wall forming purposes.
'Oneobject of the invention is to provide'a wall form of this type which is an improvement upon, vand has certain inherent advantages over, previously designed wall forms of the same general character, is characterized by the fact that the devices for releasably locking the loop equipped .ends of the combined tie and spreader rods to the panels are so designed and constructed that they efiectively and efficiently fulfill their intended ,purpose and permit the wall form as a whole to be assembled and dismantled with "facility, and is further characterized by the fact that the brackets of the releasable locking devices are so arranged, constructed and designed "that they may be permanently attached to the frames of the panels and their outer portions are substantially flush with the outer faces of the panel frames with the result that the panels when not in use may be stacked in a compact manner without interference on the part=of the "brackets.
A further object of the invention is to provide a concrete wall form which is generally of new and improved construction and my be manufactured or produced at a comparatively low cost.
Other objects of the invention and the various advantages and characteristics of the present wall form will be apparent from a consideration of the following detailed description.

The wall form whieh is shown *in the drawinm constitutes the preferred form or embodiment of 'theinvent-ion. It is adapted for use in connection with the formation oi a, concrete wall- (not shown) and comprises a pair of opposed series of upstanding abutting panels 1, a plurality of combined tie and spreader rods 8,- and a phii'ality of devices -9 for 'relea-sably' locking the ends of the combined tie and spreader rods to the panels.
The two series of panels *l are spaced apart as shown in Figures '1 to 5, inclusive, and are adapted, as well understood in the -art,- to have concrete poured therebetween. After setting of the concrete the panels are removed and' the projecting ends of the tie and spreader rods are severed. Y
Each "of the panels -I comprises --a rectangular wooden frame l0 and a :iacing #H of plywood :or other suitable material. The facings I I of the panels are rectangular and are connectediby 'nails or other attaching devices -'(=not shown) to the front face portions of the frames -10. The combined. .tie and. :spreader rods 8 extend horizontally between ithe two .opposed, spaced apart series of panelsandiarevall ofauniformrorsthe same length. They are formed of any suitable metal and serve in conjunction with the devices 9 to hold the two series of panels in spaced apart relation during pouring of concrete therebetween. Preferably there is one combined tie and spreader rod for each pair of opposed crosspieces I4. The ends of the combined tie and spreader rods extend through holes I8 in the facings II of the panels I and embody outwards of the panel facings closed loops I1. The latter are horizontally elongated and extend vertically. The interiors of the loops constitute transverse openings through the ends of the rods 8. The holes I6 are located directly above the crosspieces I4 of the panel frames I and are preferably positioned midway between the vertically extending frame side pieces I2.
The devices 9 for releasably locking the loop equipped ends of the combined tie and spreader rods 8 to the panels are associated with the panel frames I0 and comprise brackets I8, inner bolts I9 and outer bolts 29. As shown in the drawings, there are two devices 9 for each combined tie and spreader rod 8. The brackets I8 are in the form of one-piece plate metal stampings and are applied to the central or intermediate portions of the crosspieces I4 of the panel frames I0. They serve slidably to support the bolts I9 and and comprise rectangular plates 2I which fit flatly against and extend lengthwise of the upper faces of the crosspieces I4. The brackets I8 are permanently secured in place by means of nails 22 which extend through holes 23 in the bracket plates 2I and are driven into the crosspieces I4. The width of the bracket plates 2I corresponds to the width of the crosspieces. The plates 2I are arranged so that the inner side edges thereof are in abutment with the outer faces of the panel facings I I. Certain ends of the plates 2I are bent upwards to form upstanding flanges 24. The latter extend at right angles to the bracket plates and have the inner end edges thereof in abutment with the outer faces of the panel facings II. They are arranged and positioned transversely of the crosspieces I4 and serve to strengthen or reenforce the brackets I8 as a whole. The portions of the bracket plates 2I that are immediately inwards of the other ends of the plates are struck or deflected upwards to form channel forming parts 25. Such parts extend transversely of the bracket plates and are arranged in parallel relation with the upstanding flanges 24. They consist of flat horizontally extending top walls 26 and vertically extending side walls 21 and define open ended channels 28 which are in alignment with the holes I6 in the panel facings II and are adapted to receive the loop equipped ends of the combined tie and spreader rods 8. The inner ends of the channel forming parts of the brackets I8 fit against the hole defining portions of the panel facings II and coact with the inner ends of the upstanding flanges 24 to prevent transverse tilting or rocking of the crosspieces I4 with respect to the facings II. The portions of the outer margins of the bracket plates that are between the flanges 24 and the channel forming parts 25 are provided with extensions 29 and these are bent downwards at right angles to the plates and lap the outer faces of the crosspieces I4 of the panel frames ID. The inner bolts I9 overlie, and are spaced above, the inner portions of the bracket plates 2| and extend lengthwise of the plates. They are formed of flat strip metal stock and are mounted for lengthwise sliding movement. Certain ends of the inner bolts extend a through, and flt slidably within, rectangular apertures 30 in the inner ends of the upstanding flanges 24 and embody outwards of such flanges upstanding right angle heads 3!. The other ends of the inner bolts have rounded or tapered extremities and extend through, and fit slidably within, aligned rectangular apertures 32 in the inner ends of the side walls 27 of the channel forming parts 25. They are adapted in connection with use of the inner bolts to extend through and become interlocked with the closed loops I! at the ends of the combined tie and spreader rods 8. The inner bolts I9 of the releasable locking devices 9 are adapted to be used when it is desired to space the two series of abutting panels a maximum distance apart, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. In assembling the form the panels are manipulated into place and then the combined tie and spreader rods 8 are positioned so that the loop equipped ends thereof are disposed within the inner ends of the channels 28 and in alignment with the apertures 32. Before positioning the rods 8 the inner bolts I9 are slid in the direction of their heads 3| in order to shift the rounded ends thereof out of traversing relation with the channels 28. After positioning the rods 8 in the aforementioned manner the inner bolts I9 are slid longitudinally in the opposite direction in order to cause their rounded ends to pass through and become interlocked with the closed loops of the ends I! of the rods. After sliding of the inner bolts into their operative position (see Figures 2 and 3) such bolts lock the loop equipped ends of the rods to the brackets I8 and thus secure the two series of abutting panels in fixed spaced apart relation. When it is desired to remove the panels after a wall forming operation the inner bolts I9 are shifted in the direction of the heads 3| thereof in order to disengage the rounded ends from the loops I1. Rivets 33 extend through the central portions of the inner bolts I9 and are arranged so that the heads thereof coact with the channel forming parts 25 and the upstanding flanges 24 to limit inward and outward sliding movement of the inner bolts into and out of their operative position, and also maintain the inner bolts in connected relation with the brackets. The heads 3I provide striking surfaces whereby the inner bolts I9 may be driven by a hammer or other tool into their operative position. The outer bolts 20 of the releasable locking devices 9 are disposed outwards of, and in parallel relation with, the inner bolts I9. They are adapted to be used when it is desired to space the two series of abutting panels a minimum distance apart. As best shown in Figure 2, the outer bolts 20 overlie, and extend lengthwise of, the outer portions of the bracket plates 2 I. They are the same in form as the inner bolts and have certain ends thereof extending through and slidable in rectangular apertures 34 in the outer ends of the upstanding flanges 24. The portions of such ends of the outer bolts that are outwards of the flanges 24 are provided with upwardly extending right angle heads 35. The other ends of the outer bolts 20 have rounded or tapered extremities and extend through and fit slidably within aligned rectangular apertures 36 in the outer ends of the side walls 21 of the channel forming parts 25. When it is desired to use the outer bolts they are slid outwards, i. e., in the direction of their heads 35 in order to shift the rounded ends thereof out of traversing relation with the outer ends of the channels 28. Thereafter the combined tie and spreader rods 8 are manipulated so as to cause the loop equipped ends thereof to be disposed in the channels 28. After so manipulating the rods 8 the panels 1 are shifted'laterally until the closed loops I! at the ends of the rods are in alignment with the rectangular apertures 36' in the outer ends of the side walls 2? of the channel defining parts 25. After such manipulation of the panels the outer bolts 2U are driven inwards, i. e'., in the direction of the channel forming parts, in order to cause their rounded ends to extend through and become interlocked with the loops H. To re-- lease the outer bolts 20 from the loop equipped ends of the combined tie and spreader rods 8 after a concrete pouring operation theouter'bolts are slid or shifted outwards by driving them in the'direction of their heads 35. Such heads form striking surfaces whereby the outer bolts 20 may behammered into their operative position. Rivets 31 extend through the central portions of the outer bolts 29 and are so arranged that the heads thereof coact with the channel defining parts 25 and the upstanding flanges 24 to limit inward and outward slidingmovement of the outer bolts and also permanently to connect the outer bolts to the brackets [8.
It" is contemplated that the inner and outer bolts will be used selectively, depending upon what spacing of the two series of abutting panels is desired. If it is desired to have the two series of panels spaced a maximum distance apart the inner bolts l 9 are used, as shown in Figures 2 and 3. Should it be desired to have the two series of panels spaced a minimum distance apart the outer .bolts 20 are used, as shown in Figure 4. In the event that it is desired to have the two series of panels spaced an intermediate distance apart the outer bolts 2b of the releasable locking devices at one side of the form and the inner bolts is of the releasable locking device at the other side of the form are used, as shown in Figure 5. In assembling the form the panels l are positioned to form two opposed laterally spaced series, as shown in Figure 1. Thereafter the combined tie and spreader rods 8 are arranged so that the closed loops ll at the ends thereof are disposed within the channels 28 in the parts 25 of the brackets I8. After such arrangement of the combined tie and spreader rods the inner or outer bolts are driven into place, depending upon what spacing of the two series of panels is desired. After driving of the selected bolts into place concrete is poured into the space between the two series of panels. Upon hardening of the concrete the panels are dismantled by sliding the used bolts into their inoperative position. After such sliding of the bolts the panels are free and may be shifted away from the concrete wall.
The herein described concrete wall form effectively and efiiciently fulfills its intended purpose and may be assembled and dismantled with facility because of the design and construction of the releasable locking devices 9. Because the outer portions of the brackets of the releasable locking devices are substantially flush with the outer faces of the panel frames the panels may be stacked when not in use in a compact manner without interference on the part of the brackets. By reason of the fact that each of the releasable locking devices 9 includes a plurality of slidably mounted bolts it is possible to use combined tie and spreader rods of a standard or fixed predetermined length and at the same time obtain a variation or adjustment in the spacing apart of the two series of abutting panels. The construction and design of the releasable locking devices are 6; such' that the form" as a whole may be produced at a comparatively low cost.
The invention is not to be understood as restrict'ed to the-details set forth sincethese-maybe modified within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit and scope of theinvention;
Having thus described the invention what- I claim as new and desire to secure byletters patent is:-
1. A device adapted for use in connection with a Wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole andprovided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantiallyrectangular bracket plate mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole; extending lengthwise of said beam and having at one end thereof an outwardly and transversely extending flange with an aperture therethrough and adjacent its other end an outwardly and transversely extending part forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving said one end of the member and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening in the member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and memher.
2. A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate in the form of a one-piece plate metal stamping mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole,
extending lengthwise of said beam and having at one end thereof an outwardly bent right angle flange with an aperturetherethrough and adjacent its other end an out-struck transversely extending part of U-shaped cross section forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving said one end of the member and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening'inthe member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and member.
3. A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a, hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole, extending lengthwise of said beam and having at one end thereof an outwardly and transversely extending flange with an aperture therethrough and adjacent its other end an outwardly and transversely extending part forming in alignment 7:; with the hole an open ended-channel for receiving said one end of the member and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures, adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening in the member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and member, and provided with a laterally extending enlargement disposed between the said part and flange and coasting with the latter to limit sliding of the bolt relatively to the bracket plate.
4. A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole, extending lengthwise of said beam, arranged so that its inner side edge is in abutment with the facing, having at one end thereof an outwardly and transversely extending full width flange with an aperture therethrough and its inner end in abutment with the facing, and having adjacent its other end an outwardly and transversely extending full width part having its inner end in abutment with the facing forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving said one end of the member, and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening in the member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and member.
5. A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole, extending lengthwise of said beam, having at one end thereof an outwardly and transversely extending flange with an aperture therethrough, having adjacent its other end an outwardly and transversely extending part forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving said one end of the member, provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and also having on the portion of the outer margin thereof between said flange and part a right angle extension in lapped relation with the outer face of the beam, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening in the member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and member.
6. A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader member having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a transverse opening outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate in the form of a one-piece plate metal stamping, fixedly mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole, extending lengthwise of said beam, having at one end thereof an outwardly bent right angle flange with an aperture therethrough, having adjacent its other end an outstruck transversely extending part of U-shaped cross section forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving said one end of the member, and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and also having along the portion of the outer margin thereof that is between said flange and part an inwardly bent right angle extension in lapped relation with the outer face of the beam, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the opening in the member and effect a connection between said bracket plate and member.
7 A device adapted for use in connection with a wall form type panel in the form of a facing with a hole therethrough and a reenforcing beam on the outer face of the facing and adjacent the hole, and a combined tie and spreader rod having one end thereof extending through the hole and provided with a closed loop outwards of said hole, said device comprising a substantially rectangular bracket plate in the form of a one-piece plate metal stamping, mounted on the side face of the beam that is nearer the hole, extending lengthwise of said beam, arranged so that its inner side edge is in abutment with the facing, having at one end thereof an outwardly bent full width right angle flange with an aperture therethrough and its inner end in abutment with the facing, having adjacent its other end an outstruck transversely extending full width part of U-shaped cross section, having its inner end in abutment with the facing, forming in alignment with the hole an open ended channel for receiving one end of the rod and provided in the side walls thereof with opposed apertures in alignment with the aperture in the flange, and also having on the portion of its outer margin that is between said flange and part an inwardly bent right angle extension in lapped relation with the outer face of the beam, and a bolt extending slidably through the apertures and adapted when slid in one direction to extend through the loop in the rod and effect a connection between said bracket plate and rod.
