This invention relates to new and useful improvements in slicing machines and the primary object of the present invention is to provide a machine for slicing butter and the like into small, uniform pats.

Another important object of the present invention is to provide a butter receptacle including novel and improved means for cutting and ejecting pats of butter therefrom. 1

A further object of the present invention is to provide a receptacle adapted to receive a stick of butter at each end thereof and including a slidable cutter mounted in the receptacle where by upon a back and forth movement of the cutter, similar, uniform pats of butter are cut and ejected from each stick of butter and from each end of the receptacle.

A still further aim of the present invention is to provide a slicing machine that is simple and practical in construction, neat and attractive in appearance, strong and reliable in use, relatively inexpensive to manufacture, and therwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.

Other objects and advantages reside in the details of construction and operation as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawing'forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the present invention showing ice chambers applied thereto for use of the device in commercial eating establishments Figure 2 is a perspective view of the present invention for a family use;

Figure 3 is a transverse vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 3-3 of Figure 2; and,

Figure 4 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view taken substantially on the plane of section line 44 of Figure 2.

Referring now to the drawing in detail, wherein for the purpose of illustration, there is disclosed a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the numeral l0 represents a substantially rectangular receptacle having transparent side walls 12, end walls l4 and a bottom wall it. The lower ends of the end walls are similarly notched adjacent the bottom wall, to provide opposing guide openings or transverse slots l8. The side walls [2 are provided with longitudinal slots 20 that slidably engage a rod 22 having its ends bent to form eyes 24.

The numeral 26 represents a substantially channel-shaped cutter having a web portion and spaced leg portions or flanges 28. The flanges 28 are provided with central apertures that re ceive the rod 22 for retaining the cutter in a fixed position to the rod with the web of the cutter spaced above and parallel to the wall l6. An ejector plate 3B is rigidly carried by the lower face of the cutter, at the center thereof adjacent rod 22, for a purpose which will later more fully be described.

Extending through apertures provided at the longitudinal center of the side walls, and adjacent their upper edges, is a cross rod 32 having its end bent downwardly in spaced parallelism to provide a pair of attaching arms 34 disposed on the outer faces of the side walls that frictionally engage eyes 24. A finger receiving lever 36 is rigidly carried by one of the arms 34, for actuating the rod 22.

It should be here noted, that the sharpened or beveled edges 38 of the cutter are disposed in a vertical plane with the inner faces of the end walls when the rod 22 is disposed at the longitudinal center of the slot 20, and that the lower edges of the flanges 28 of the cutter are spaced relative to the bottom wall.

In practical use of the device, a stick of butter is placed in each end of the receptacle and bears upon the upper face of the cutter, when the rod 22 is in the longitudinal center of the slot 20 and the arms, 34 are disposed vertically. When the lever 36 is pulled downwardly in one direc-. tion, the cutter will slide forwardly in an opposite direction so that the stick of butter at one end of the receptacle will slide downwardly upon the bottom wall. Upon actuation of the lever 36in an opposite direction, the cutter will slice a lower portion of the stick of butter and the ejector plate 30 will force the same through the slot is at that end of the receptacle into a suitable container. Simultaneously with the last operation, the other stick of butter will slide downwardly upon the bottom to be cut as the lever is again actuated. Hence by back and forth motion, similar and uniform pats of butter will be ejected from each end of the receptacle.

The device thus described and as best shown in Figures 2-4 inclusive is adapted for home use and may be inserted into an ice box with these sticks of butter in place thereto. However, for use in commercial eating establishments, it is preferred that supporting brackets 40 be secured to the end walls to support ice chambers 42, whereby the sticks of butter will remain in a hended by the spirit of the invention as herein described and the scope of the appended .claims.
