Application October 5, 1946, Serial No. 701,520
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a picture hook, and its principal object is to provide such hook and device wherewith the hook may be selectively located at varying elevations, for adjusting the suspension of a picture vertically.
Another object is to provide a picture hook and device for the aforesaid purpose, which will be conveniently and economically manufacturable, saleable at low cost, conveniently installable and utilizable, strong, durable, improved, and efficient.
In connection with the display and sale of certain classes of merchandise, as pictures, mirrors, and fireplaces, particularly the latter, it is essential that they be shown positioned and mounted coordinately together, as the picture hanging over the fireplace. As the latter are however manufactured and sold in a large variety of types and sizes of different heights, it requires frequent changing of the suspended position of the picture thereover, to some higher or lower elevation, thereby necessitating driving of nails or hooks into the wall at different places, with consequent expense, labor, impairments and repairs of the wall, interruption of displays, etc.
A further object of the invention therefore, is to provide a picture hook and device which will remedy the aforesaid disadvantages, and wherewith the displays and sales of the above mentioned and kindred merchandise may be facilitated.
Other objects and advantages will hereinafter appear.
In the accompanying drawings- Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of the picture hook. device constituting the invention.
Fig. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional elevational view of the picture hook device shown in Fig. 1, illustrating it as it appears when in installed operative condition and in relation to the fireplace merchandise display for which it is utilized.
The picture hook device I includes an oblong metallic plate 2 having screw holes 3 for its attachment and provided with a centrally located elongated through slot 4. Upon its rear face 2a the plate is provided with a vertical series of transversely disposed pairs 5 of hooks 6. A picture-hook I located on the front face 2b of the plate has the terminal portion B of its shank 9 turned rearwardly and penetrating the slot 4, whereat it carries a horizontal bar It] adapted to lodge in and astride of the hooks 6 of any pair 5 thereof of the series, as illustrated. By this means the picture-hook I may be located in engagement with any one of hook-pairs 5, 6, either in the position shown or as indicated by the dash and dot lines, Fig. 2, and in this manner the vertical location of the picture ll may be selectively changed to various elevations.
Preliminary to installing the picture hook device l on the wall l2, Fig. 2, the latter is gouged out to provide a recess l3 for lodgement therein of the hooks 6 and permitting the free manipulation of the cross-bar II) when changing its engagement with any pair 5 of said hooks, and the plate 2 is secured to the wall 12 by means of screws it. With this installation of the picture hook device I, therefore, any one of various fireplaces l5 of different heights may be placed thereunder, and the picture I I may be readily and conveniently rehung thereover in appropriate elevation, by merely altering the suspended location of its picture-hook 1.
Variations may be resorted to within the scope of the invention, and portions of the improvements may be used without others.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A vertically adustable picture hook device having the combination of a plate adapted to be secured to a wall, said wall being provided with a recess rearwardly of said plate, said plate having therethrough a vertical slot and carrying rearwardly thereof and within said recess a vertical series of pairs of suspension devices, said hook being located on said plate and having a portion thereof penetrating through said slot with said portion carrying a member rearwardly of said plate, and said member being adapted to selectively engage any one of said pairs of devices for vertically adusting the location of said hook.
2. A vertically adjustable picture hook device having the combination of a plate adapted to be secured to a wall, said wall being provided with a recess rearwardly of said plate, said plate having therethrough a vertical slot and carrying rearwardly thereof and within said recess a vertical series of suspension devices, said hook being located on said plate and having a portion thereof penetrating through said slot with said portion carrying a member rearwardly of said plate, and said member being adapted to selectively engage said devices for vertically adjusting the location of said hook.
