Description

H. T. FUNK 2,117,714
ADJUSTABLE CURTAIN HOLDER Flled March 12 1936 java--10 R WW fw May 17, 1938.
Patented May 17, 1938 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 Claim.
My invention relates to a holder, and while primarily intended for securing the ties of window curtains and drapes, it is obvious'that the device may be employed for any other purposes wherein itis found to be applicable.
Important objects of the invention are to provide a holder of the character described, which will facilitate the draping of window curtains and drapery, which is adjustable, simple in its construction and arrangement, durable and efllcient in its use, attractive in appearance, and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts. herein specifically described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, but it is to be understood that changes in the form, proportions and details of construction may be resorted to that come within the scope of the claim hereunto appended.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a front view of a holder constructed in accordance with the invention, and Figure 2 is a side view of a connecting hook embodied in the present invention.
Referring in detail to the drawing, l8 denotes a sheet metal, tubular, upright member. The member I is rectangularly-shaped in transverse cross section, and comprises a back, a pair of forwardly disposed side walls, and a pair of inturned front flanges H. The latter have their free edges spaced from .each other to provide a longitudinally extending slot 20 therebetween.
Each end of the back, of the member I8 is provided with an apertured lug for the reception of a fastening element, by whichthe said member is adapted to be secured in the vertical position against a window frame.
Each of the flanges ll, of the member I8, is provided with a plurality of spaced slots I9, which decline at angles to thehorizontal and open into the vertical slot 20. The angularly disposed slots I9 are preferably horizontally aligned in pairs, and are adapted for receiving and engaging the head 2| of a connecting hook 22. Any required number of connecting hooks 22 may be adjustably mounted in the member Hi to best meet conditions found in practice.
To prevent the removal and loss of the connecting hooks 22 from the member l8, the end portions of the side walls of the latter are turned inwardly toward each other to close the respective ends of said member.
In practice, a member I8 is fixed in the vertical position against the outer edge of .each side member of a window frame, or on a window frame member which separates two adjacent windows. The hooks are adjusted to the angularly disposed slots I9 at positions best suited to serve as connecting elements for attaching the ties thereto which are employed for securing the window curtains and draperies in their draped positions.
The present invention provides a simple and most efficient device of its kind, which may be conveniently adjusted even by unskilled persons. and which will function effectively for the purposes intended in the manner herein set forth.
What I claim is:
A curtain holder comprising the combination of a sheet metal tubular upright member rectangularly-shaped in transverse cross section and including a pair of forwardly disposed side walls and a pair of inturned front flanges, the free edges of said pair of front flanges'being spaced from each other to provide a longitudinally disposed slot therebetween, each of said front flanges being provided with a plurality of spaced angularly disposed slots declining from the horizontal and open into said longitudinally disposed slot, a connecting element including a head engaging in said member and being adjustable to extend same through and engage in any of said angularly disposed slots, the end portions of respective side 40 walls being turned inwardly toward each other to close the ends of said member for preventing the removal of said connecting element from the latter.
