2 Claims.

This invention relates to bibs such as are used on infants, patients, or the like, and especially, in this instance, to bibs designed to function ordinarily as an inexpensive disposable one.

The principal objects sought are practicability and efiiciency in an article of this type adapted for but a single use and then disposed of with the least annoyance and expense possible, to which end the novel but simple manner of construction is aimed, and subsequently attained.

Fig. l is a plan view of the integral blank of which the complete bib is ultimately formed.

Fig. 2 is a side elevational view of Fig. 1 after the blank has been formed into the finished article ready for application to the wearer, and

Fig. 3 is a somewhat reduced perspective view of the completed bib to better illustrate the functioning of the different parts thereof.

The body portion of the blank is scored transversely as at l, 2, and 3, Fig. 1, for folding upon the lines I and 2, and normally bending upon the line 3 after said folding takes place thus providing the transverse trough-like member. This scoring divides the blank into the lower body portion 4, the double drip- trough portions 5 and 6, and the upper body portion 1 with its bifurcated extreme upper portion terminating in the arcuate twin flaps 8-8 for surrounding the neck of the wearer.

The opposed terminals of these flaps 88 are shaped substantially as shown and scored as at 9-9 with either one or both coated with suitable adhesive for ultimate moistening and overlapping of those portions beyond the score lines 95 to snugly fit about the neck of the wearer thus, when united, insuring security during use and practically necessitating destruction thereafter.

It is to be noted that when the bib is being folded on the lines I and 2, the portions 4 and 5 of the blank will engage each other flatly and thus double the thickness of that part of the blank forming the front or splash portion of the trough which obviously augments the absorbability and efficiency of the bib. When this folding takes place the angularly shaped tabs ill are turned in to engage the opposed surface of the front adjacent the edge thereof, these tabs each being equipped with adhesive upon the space indicated at H for direct attachment thereto.

The tabs ID are substantially triangular in shape and extend laterally from the lowermost foldable portion 5. These tabs l0, when the bib is folded, extend around the ends of the portion 6 2 perpendicular to the body portion to which they are attached forming the ends of the dribble trough and hold the two portions 5 and 6 in close back-to-back relation forming a double front for said trough.

It will be noted that the bib when marketed may be completely formed and folded with the ends of the trough fixed to the body portion as explained or sold wholly in flat form and the sticking of the flaps H] to the front of the portion accomplished by the purchaser at will prior to use, for example, when moistening the termini of the neck band.

What I claim is:

1. A trough for a bib comprising three transverse spaced scores on said bib; substantially triangularly shaped tabs extending laterally from and intermediate of the two lowermost of said scores; said bib being folded upwardly on the uppermost one of said scores, back upon itself on the middle one of said scores, and outwardly on the lowermost one of said scores; and said tabs having one side extending substantially normal to said bib from the centermost one of said scores, a second side of said tabs extending upwardly at an angle from the lowermost one of said scores, and the third side of said tabs extending between the points where said normal and second sides abut said scores; said tabs being folded along said third side around the ends of the bib between the uppermost and center of said scores so that the faces of said tabs extend substantially normal to the adjacent face of said bib, and said tabs being secured to said bib along said second side whereby a trough is formed having angularly shaped ends and a double thickness front wall.

As a new article of manufacture, a disposable bib made of absorbent paper and comprising a vertically elongated body portion bifurcated at its upper end to form a holding neck band and opening; three spaced scores transverse said bib intermediate the ends thereof; said bib being folded upwardly on the uppermost one of said scores, back upon itself on the middle one of said scores, and outwardly on the lowermost one of said scores; triangular flaps extending later ally from and intermediate of the two lowermost of said scores, said flaps having a first side extending outwardly from and substantially in alinement with the centermost one of said scores, a second side extending upwardly and outwardly from the lowermost one of said scores to said first side, and a third side extending between the points where said first and second sides abut said thickness f ont.
