Description

M. Mo'RALEs SANDWICH HOLDER Aug. 2, 1932.
Filed Oct. 16, 1950 Patented Aug. 2, 1932 UNITED STATES BATTLE HOWE, OF TWA, FLORIDA smnwmn aommn Application m October 10, mo. Serial 1%. 45am.
This invention relates to a sandwich holder whereby direct contact of a sandwich with the hands or gloves of the user can be prevented so that tourists and others purchasing sandwich s can eat them without soiling the hands or loves or, if can keep t e sandwich clean while it is being eaten.
Another object is to provide a sandwich holder which is inexpensive and can be discarded after use.
Another object is to provide a device of this character which can be quickly applied to a sandwich and will remain properly as- I sembled therewith as long as desired.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing the preferred form of the invention has been shown.
In said drawing:
" Figure 1 is a plan view of the blank from whic the holder is made.
Figure 2 is an end elevation of the blank after it has been partly shaped for use.
Figure 3 is an end view s owing the holder partly folded into position for housing a portion of a sandwich.
Figure 4 shows the holder completely folded w1th its opposed portions interlocked. v
Figure 5 is a section on line 5-5, Figure 4, a portion of a sandwich being indicate by broken lines.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference, 1 designates a blank formed of cardboard or other suitable material so shaped as to provide an elongated intermediate portion 2'separated by score lines 3 or the like from oppositely extending angular wings 4. Each of these angular wings as a flap 5 extending from the base thereof, the flap being of t e same length as the base and being provided at an intermediate point the hands are soiled,
. and also along score lines vided between the wings 4= and the flaps 5. After the holder hasbeen brought substantiall to the position shown in Figure 2 with the aps 5 lapping, the sandwich S is placed against the intermediate portion 2 and be- 6:)
tween wings 4. The wings are then placed against opposed sides of the inserted sandwich and the slitted portions of the flaps 5 are caued to interfit as shown in Figure 4. Thus the sandwich will be completely housed 10 at one corner and can be handled readily while the exposed portion is being eaten.
When it is desired to eat that portion which is housed in the holder the user presses against the tongue 8 with a finger so as to cause the sandwich to be thrust gradually from the holder. This operation can continue until the entire sandwich has been eaten after which the holder can bediscarded.
What is claimed is:
1. A device for holding one corner portion of a sandwich to protect the hand of the user while the sandwich is being eaten, including a single blank of sheet material including an intermediate portion, side wings and lapping portions on the side wings, said portions and wings being) bendable to form an angular holder open etween the wings and opposite said intermediate portion for the protrusion of a portion of an article held between the wings.
2. A device for holding one corner portion of a sandwich to protect the hand of the user while the sandwich is being eaten, including a single blank of sheet material including an intermediate portion, side wings and lapping portions on the side wings, said portions and wings being bendable to form an angular holder open between the wings 10 which are proand opposite said intermediate portion for the protrusion of a portion of an article held between the wings, said lap ing portions bein provided with slits there y to interlock and old the wings against separation.
3. A device for holding one corner ortion of a sandwich to protect the hand 0 the user while the sandwich is being eaten, including a single blank of sheet material including an intermediate portion, side win and lapping portions on the side wings, sa1d portions and wings bein bendable to form an'angular holder open tween the wings and opposite said intermediate portion for the protrusion of a portion of an article held between the wings, and an ejecting tongue integral with said intermediate ortion for engagement with one ed e of the eld article to slide the article bod' y through the open portion of the holder.
In testimon that I claim the foregoing as my own, I ave hereto afiixed my signature.
I MATIAS MORALES.
