This invention relates to seats or chairs for infants, andmore particularly to bucket type pads which are so constructed as to enable them to be detaehably and reversibly secured to the backs, side members, and, if desirable to the kick plates of said seats or chairs. The pad, as shown and described herein, is capable of application to seats which are generally provided with the foregoing parts, examples of such seats being infants chairs, and chairs which are combined with play tables, an example of such combined chairs and play tables being shown and described in Hansburg Patent No. 2,161,657.

We accomplish the foregoing objects in and through the construction and arrangement of parts shown in the drawings hereof wherein Fig. 1 represents a longitudinal sectional view through a combined chair and table wherein the chair has applied thereto a bucket type pad constructed in accordance with our invention; Fig. 2 a perspective view of the said pad; Fig. 3 a side elevational view of the upper portions of the back and one of the side sections of our pad; Fig. 4 an enlarged detail in sectional elevation of one of the side frame'members of the table and the top of one of the sides of the pad, showing the manner in which the fastening members cooperate with the fastening members at the tops of the sides of the pad; and Fig. 5 an enlarged detail in elevation of the kick plate showing the fastening members which are adapted to cooperate with those on the lower end of the corresponding section of the pad.

Describing the parts by reference characters, l denotes the main, or lower, back section of the pad, the same comprising padding material A and front and rear coverings, indicated at II and I2. i3 denotes a head rest section forming an upper extension of the main, or lower, back section, thesame having padding material B and provided with front and rear coverings I4 and I constituting extensions of the coverings II and I2, respectively, the head rest section and 8 Claims. 2| denotes generally the seat section of the complete pad, the same comprising padding material C enclosed between top and bottom coverings 22 and 23 respectively, preferably formed as extension of the coverings II and 12, respectively. The rear ends of the coverings 22 and 23 are flexibly connected to the bottoms of the coverings II and I2, as by stitching 24, thereby forming a foldable joint between the back section and the seat section. Where the seat or chair with which the complete pad is to be used is provided with a kick plate, it is advisable to provide the seat section of the pad with a section adapted to cover the said plate, in which case the latter section will be provided with padding, material D, with front andrear coverings 25 and 26 respectively, preferably formed as extensions of the coverings 22 and 23, respectively, and being flexibly connected at their tops as by stitching 21, to the front of the coverings 22 and 23, thereby providing a foldable joint between the bottom pad section and the kick plate pad section. The sides and bottom of the kick-plate pad section are provided with binding, indicated at 28, 29 and 30, this binding being shown in Figs. 1 and 2 as extending rearwardly as far as the bottoms of the front ends of the side sections of the seat pad.

The coverings for these side sections are flexibly connected at their rear ends to the coverings H and [2 of the rear section by stitching 33, thereby forming foldable joints between the rear ends of the side sections and the sides of the back section. The connections between the coverings 3| and 32 and II and I2 are strengthened by binding/indicated at The coverings for the side pad sections are foldably connected at their lower ends, as by stitching (indicated at 35) to the sides of the coverings for the seat pad section and this stitching is reinforced by binding, indicated at 36, this binding being extended and merging with the bindings 28 and 29 for the kick-plate pad covering section. The tops and front ends of the side sections are also shown as provided with binding 3| and 32.

The dimensions of the back section, seat section, side sections and kick-plate covering section will, of course, be varied in accordance with the dimensions of the chairs or seats with which they respectively cooperate. The manner in which these sections are connected enables the complete pad to be reversed, so that what has been described as the "front" of the back and kick-plate covering sections will become the rear thereof and what has been described as the "top" of the seat section will become the bottom thereof, and what has been described as the outer sides of the side sections will become the inner sides thereof, and vice versa. This reversal is easily eflected, due to the construction of the pad as a whole and the manner in which the various sections are connected.

In order to enable the tops of the side section! and the bottom of the kick-plate covering section to be detachably and reversibly secured to the side members and the kick plate of the chairs or seats, the tops of the side sections are provided each with two laterally spaced pairs of fastening members, one pair being located adjacent to the front of each side section and the other pair being located adjacent to the rear thereof. .As shown, each pair of fastening members comprises male and female fastening members, indicated at 31 and 38, of the glove-fastener snap-on type, whereby these fastening members may cooperate with studs 39 on the arms or upper portions of the sides of the seats to which the pads are-to be applied.

In like manner, the bottom of the kick-plate covering section of the pad is provided adjacent to each side thereof with similar fastening members, designated in like manner, for cooperation with suitably located studs 39 on the kick plate. The employment of these fastening members makes it unnecessary to resort to the use of tapes or similar flexible members for temporarily securing the tops of the side sections and the bottom of the kick plate section to the parts of the seat with which they respectively cooperate.

Where desirable, the lower portions of the sides engage notches ll in the bottom wall of a slot 8' provided in the appropriate flanged supporting member 5|.

The chair is suspended from the opposed side frame members 46 by means of rods 51 pivotally connected at their upper ends to the said side members and at their lower ends to the flanged supporting members 5|. As the details whereby the chair is supported when in use forms no part of the present invention, it is believed that it will be suflicient to point-out that the rear end of the chair bottom and the rear frame member 45 constitute a support for the chair back and that the sideframe members 46 constitute, in effect, the tops of the sides, or the arms, with which the chairs are usually provided.

Having thus described our invention, what we claimis:

1. A reversible bucket type seat pad for use with a seat for infants having a' back, a bottom, and side members above and on opposite sides of the bottom, the said seat pad comprising a back section having padding material and front and rear coverings therefor, a bottom section having padding'material and top and bottom coverings therefor, and side'sections each having padding material and inner and outer coverings therefor, the bottom of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected to the rear of .the bottom secof the back section and the corresponding por- The chair or seat illustrated in the drawings is of the type that has been used in combined chairs and play tables for infants.

The table is shown as having legs 4!, upper frame rails 42 secured to the said legs, a top 43, which may. be of relatively thin material and which has an opening 44 therethrough for the reception of the chair. This opening is reinforced by a rear frame member 45 and side frame members 46 and a front frame member 41, the said frame members being secured to and beneath the table top and having their inner edges approximately flush with the rear, the sides, and the front, edges of the said opening, respectively.

The chair comprises a bottom 48, a back 49 detachably secured to the bottom and extending upwardly through the opening 44 with its rear surface engaging and supported by the rear wall of the opening and the rear frame member 45. 50 denotes one of a pair of hangers which are pivoted at their upper ends to the fronts of flanged supporting members 5| secured to opposite sides of the chair bottom 48, thes hangers supporting a kick plate 52, the hangers also being shown as supporting a foldable footrest 53 and as being braced in various adjusted positions by means of a brace rod 54 pivotally connected to each of the hangers and having its upper end deflected to tion, the sides of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected with the rear ends of the side sections, and the bottoms of the side sections being flexibly and foldably connected with the sides of the bottom section, and the tops of the side section being provided with fastening members adapted to cooperate with fastening members on the side members of the seat, irrespective of which of the coverings of the said side sections shall be presented toward the side members of the seat.

2. A reversible bucket type seat pad for use with a seat for infantshaving aback, a bottom, a kick plate, and side members above and on opposite sides of the bottom, the said seat pad comprising a back section having padding material and front and rear coverings therefor, a bottom section having padding material and top and bottom coverings therefor, and side sections each erings therefor, and a kick-plate covering section, the bottom of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected to the rear of the bottom section, the sides of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected with the rear ends of the side sections, the bottoms of the side sections being flexibly and foldably connected with the sides of the said bottom section and the top of the kick-plate covering section being flexibly and foldably connected with the front of the bottom section, and the tops of the side sections being provided with fastening members adapted to cooperate with fastening members on the side members of the seat, irrespective of which of the coverings of the said side sections shall be presented toward the side members of the seat, and the bottom of thekick-plate covering section being provided with fastening members adapted to cooperate with fastening members on the kick plate irrespective of whether the front or the back covering of the kick-plate covering section is presented toward the kick plate.

In the reversible bucket type seat pad set forth in claim 1, the top of the back section having secured to the top and sides thereof pocket forming members adapted to receive between the forth in claim 1, the back section comprising a lower section and a head rest section flexibly connected to the top of the lower section and having secured to the top and sides thereof pocket-forming members adapted to receive between the same and the front and rear coverings of the head rest the upper end of the back of the seat to which the complete pad is applied.

In the reversible bucket type seat pad set forth in claim 5, the pocket-forming members being secured to the front and back coverings of the head rest, below the top of the latter, whereby the top of the head rest will project beyond the top of the back of the seat to which the complete pad is applied.

7. A reversible bucket type seat pad for use with a seat for infants having a back, a bottom, and side members above and on opposite sides of the bottom, the said seat pad comprising a back section having padding material and front and rear coverings therefor, a bottom section having padding material and top and bottom coverings therefor, and side sections eachhaving padding material and inner and outer coverings therefor, the bottom of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected to the rear of the bottom section, and the bottoms of the side sections being flexibly and foldably connected with the sides of the bottom section, pocket forming means secured to only the top and sides of the back section overlying both the front and rear coverings therefor to adapt same to engage with a portion of the seat to be supported thereby, and the side sections each being provided with fastening members on each side thereof adjacent the tops thereof adapted for engagement with fastening members on the side members of the seat regardless of which of the coverings of the side sections is presented adjacent the side members of the seat.

8. A reversible bucket type seat pad for use with a seat for infants having a back, a bottom, and side members above and on opposite sides of the bottom, the said seat pad comprising a back section having padding material and front and rear coverings therefor, a bottom section having padding material and top and bottom coverings therefor, and side sections each having padding .material and inner and outer coverings therefor,

the bottom of the back section being flexibly and foldably connected to the rear of the bottom section, and the bottoms of the side sections being flexibly and foldably connected with the sides of the bottom section, pocket forming means secured to only the top and sides of the back section overlying both the front and rear coverings therefor to adapt same to engage with a portion of the seat to be supported thereby, and the side sections each being provided with snap type fastening members on each side thereof adjacent the tops thereof at both the front and the rear thereof adapted for engagement with fastening members on the side members of the seat regardless of which of the coverings of the side sections is presented adjacent the side members of the seat.
