Description

Dec. 28, 1948. w. H. wELsH .PAINT BUCKET BRACKET Filed May 25, 1946 INVENTOR. Wzlluzm lLWesh y?. .3A Z3 20 I l' 'l Patented Dec. 28, 1948 UNITED STATS PATENT GFFICE PAINT BUCKET BRACKET William H. Welsh, Detroit, Mich.
Application May 23, 1946, Serial No. 671,877
2 Claims. l
Thi-s invention relates to a paint bu-cket bracket which is especially adapted to be used with and attached to a ladder.
An object of the invention is to provide a bracket that can be easily attached to a ladder to support a paint bucket thereon.
Another object of the invention is to provide a bracket that is comparatively simple in construction, inexpensive to manufacture, durable in service and easy to use.
With the above and other objects and advantage-s in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, arrangement and combination of parts more fully hereinafter described, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which:
Figure l is an elevational View of an embodiment of the invention attached to a ladder;
Figure 2 is a plan view thereof;
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3 3 of Figure 1;
Figure 3a being a continuation of the hook portion and Figure 4 is a plan view of the brush supporting The bracket I 2 comprises the hanger plate ill having upper and lower arms i6 and i9 respectively that are bent to conform to the shape of the upright l0. Extending outwardly from the plate in opposite relation to and intermediate the arms i6 and |'8 is the bearing arm 20 for mounting one end of the crank 22, the opposite end being mounted in the L-shaped bearing arm 2li formed at the opposite marginal edge of the plate lll in alinement with the arm 20.
The crank 22 is provided with a threaded portion 26 on which is threadably mounted the clamp 28 and the clamp has a foot 30 that engages the upright on the side opposite to the side engaged by the arms I6 and i8. Movement of the crank 22 will therefore draw the clamp against the upright and rmly retain the plate I4 on the upright.
Immediately below the crank 22, there is swingably mounted by means of the pin 32, at right angles thereto, the bucket and brush supporting plate or arm 34, and extending at right angles from this -arm,34, is the supporting member 36 having slots 38 therein for supporting brushes thereby. l
Depending from the arm 34 is the member 40 having the hook 42 formed thereon to engage the bail of a paint bucket.
At the front end of the plate i4 at the lowermost edge thereof is an outstruck stop 44 which retains the arm 34 in vertical relation with the upright, but should the bracket be placed in a horizontal position, the arm will swing on its pivot to engage the arm 2li which will retain the arm 34 in vertical relation to the upright.
Thus, regardless of whether the upright is vertical, inclined or horizontal, the arm 34 will always be in vertical relation therewith.
By movement of the crank, the bracket can be easily attached or removed from the ladder or it can be slid on the upright to any position desired.
It is believed that from the foregoing description, the structure and operation of the bracket will be apparent to those skilled in the art, and it is to be understood that changes in the minor details of con-struction, arrangement and combination of parts may be resorted to, provided they fall within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims. Y
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to 'be secured by Letters Patent is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising a hanger plate, parallel U-shaped arms on said plate at the top and bottom edges thereof for engaging a support, a crank, means on said plate for journalling said crank therein, a clamp threadably mounted on said crank for engaging the opposite side of said support, and an arm on said plate for supporting a paint bucket and paint brushes thereon.
2. The invention as in claim 1 wherein said last said arm is pivotally mounted on said plate and said bucket supporting means comprises a hookended member and said brush supporting means comp-rises a plate at right angles to said arm, having slots therein to secure said brushes.
WILLIAM H. WELSH.
