1 Claim. (01. 2-42) I This invention relates to brassires, and has for its primary object the provision of a simple garment of this kind which is designed to separate and lift the breasts and to firmly and comfortably support them.

More specifically, the invention contemplates the provision of a brassire in which each breast cup is elastically connected at its inner sidewlth the other breast cup so as to provide means for dividing and lifting the breasts and simultaneously utilizing the supporting force of one breast to eifectively and firmly support the other.

The exact nature of the present invention, as well as other objects and features thereof, will become apparent from the following description when considered in connection with the accompanying drawings, in which:

Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a brassire constructed in accordance with the present invention;

Figure 2 is an enlarged fragmentary elevational view of the front portion of the brassire, looking at the outside thereof;

Figure 3 is a view similar to Figure 2 looking at the inside of the front portion;

Figure 4 is an enlarged fragmentary horizontal section taken on line 4--4 of Figure 2;

Figure 5 is a fragmentary vertical section taken on line 5--5 of Figure 2.

Referring in detail to the drawings, the illustrated form of the invention comprises two substantially similar parts 5 and 6, made of suitable fabric and each including a breast cup portion 1 and an integral band portion 8 extending from the outer side of said breast cup portion. These breast cup portions are tapered narrower to the sides thereof as shown, and each has an inwardly inclined shaping dart 9 which extends from the center of the cup to the lower edge of the part of which said cup forms a portion.

The adjacent side portions of the parts 5 and 6 are unconnected and are slightly overlapped as indicated at In. The garment further includes two relatively wide and short elastic straps, each of which is attached or stitched at one end to the inner side of one part as at It, and at the other end to the breast cup portion of the other part along the dart 9 thereof as at I3. As illustrated, the elastic straps H are designed to yield horizontally or circumferentially of the wearer.

It will be noted that these straps are located at the front of the garment under the adjacent and fullest parts of the breasts. Also, they are short and close together, and due to the inclined line of attachment of their outer ends along the darts 9, they exert a firm but yielding force which causes separation and lifting of the breasts so as to firmly and comfortably support them, the supporting force for each breast being transmitted to the other.

Each cup portion 1 is provided at the top with a central upward extension I4, and a shoulder strap l5 connects each extension H with the band portion 8 of the same part at a point near the free end of said band portion.

Suitable means is provided to connect the band portions 8 at the back of the wearer, which means preferably provides for adjustment and may consist of a hook member [6 attached by means of an elastic loop I! tothe free end of one band portion 8 and adapted to selectively engage a desired one of a series of eyelets provided as indicated at I! on a strip is attached to the free end of the other band portion 8. The connection 20 of each shoulder strap I5 with the associated extension I4 is preferably of a Well known type providing for adjustment of the shoulder strap as to length.

From the foregoing description, it is believed that the construction and advantages of the present invention will be readily understood and appreciated by those skilled in the art. Modifications and minor changes in details are contemplated such as fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

What I claim is:

A brassiere comprising two substantially similar parts, eachof said parts including a breast cup portion shaped to provide a breast cup and a band portion extending from the outer side of said breast cup portion, means to separably connect the free ends of said band portions together at the back of the wearer, the breast cup portions being tapered narrower to the inner sides thereof and having downwardly and inwardly inclined shaping darts extending downwardly from the centers of the cups to the lower edges of said parts, the adjacent side portions of said parts being unconnected and slightly overlapped, and two relatively wide and short horizontally 3 yieldable elastic straps connecting the parts together at the front of the brassiere, one of said elastic straps having a vertical end edge sewed to the inner edge of one part and being extended outside the other part and having an inclined end edge sewed to the breast cup portion of said other part along the inclined dart thereof, the other elastic strap having a vertical end edge sewed to the inner edge of said other part and being ex tended inside the one part and having an inclined end edge sewed to the breast cup portion of said one part along the, inclined dart thereof, v,
