Description
Nov. 3o, 194s.
E. E. vBlsH CLAMP BRACKET Filed may 29, 1945' Patented Nov. 30, 1948 NITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 2 Claims.
rlhis invention relates to supports, and more particularly to supports of the clamping type.
A main object of the invention is to provide a novel and improved clamping support adapted to hold Waste receptacles, towels and other articles.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved clamping support of very simple construction wherein the clamping jaws are shaped to provide rm and positive gripping action.
Further objects and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description and claims, and from the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is a side elevational View of a clamping support device in accordance with this invention, shown secured to a Wall, with the clamping jaws thereof in clamping relation with respect to a receptacle to be supported thereby.
Figure 2 is a top view of the support device of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 4 4 of Figure 1.
Referring to the drawings, I designates the bodir portion of a support member in accordance with this invention, said body portion comp-rising a vertical arm 2 adapted to be rigidly secured to a Wall, and a horizontal arm 3 which projects outwardly with respect to vertical arm 2. Horizontal arm 3 is formed at its end With an upwardly concave trough portion 4 and adjacent its end with a pair of upwardly extending side lugs 5, 5. Overlying the end portion of horizontal arm 3 is a clamping jaw member 6, said jaw member 6 being provided with a pair of depending lug members 1, 'l embracing side lugs 5, 5 and pivotally secured thereto by a transverse pin 8. The outer end of jaw member 6 is formed with a vertical depending gripping element 9, the lower end of which is serrated to provide gripping teeth. Said gripping element 9 is received in trough portion 4.
A coil spring I is positioned around pin 8, one end of said spring bearing on horizontal arm 3 and the other end of said spring bearing on the under surface of jaw member 6 to bias element 9 of said jaw member to a gripping position with respect to trough portion 4.
The inner end of jaw member 6 is formed with an upwardly bent tab element Il for manual actuation to release the clamping jaws.
-As shown in Figures 2 and 3, gripping element 9 and trough portion ll are laterally extended with respect to body portion l to provide a substantial area oi gripping engagement between the gripping element and the trough portion.
A shown in Figure 1, a receptacle l2, such as a paper bag, may be releasably secured to the support member by engaging an upper edge portion of the receptacle between gripping element 9 and trough portion 4. Other articles, such as towels, clothing, and the like, may be releasably secured to the support member in a similar manner.
While a specific embodiment of a clamping support device has been disclosed in the foregoing description, it Will be understood that various modications within the spirit of the invention may occur to those skilled in the art. Therefore, it is intended that no limitations be placed Orl the invention other than as dened by the scope of the appended claims.
What is claimed is:
1. In a device for holding a receptacle, the combination with a vertically-disposed arm adapted to be secured to a supporting surface, and a horizontally-disposed arm having an end secured to said first-named arm, of a clamping means operatively secured to said horizontally-disposed arm, said means comprising a trough on the other end of said horizontally-disposed arm for the reception of an edge of said receptacle, a jaw member on said horizontally-disposed arm and mounted for movement into and out of contacting engagement with said trough for releasably holding the edge of said receptacle within said trough.
2. In a device for holding a receptacle, the combination with a vertically-disposed arm adapted to be secured to a supporting surface, and a horizontally-disposed arm having an end secured to said rst-named arm, of a clamping means operatively secured to said horizontallydisposed arm, said means comprising a trough on the other end of said horizontally-disposed arm for the reception of an edge of said receptacle, a jaw member on said horizontally-disposed arm and mounted for movement into and out of contacting engagement With said trough for releasably holding the edge of said receptacle within said trough, and resilient means operatively connected to said jaw member for urging the latter into contacting engagement With said trough.
