UNITED ABRAHAM z. RUBIN, or DENVER, cononnno;
sf .trrUia-cnr HOLDER;
"Specification of Letters Patent. l 29 1920 Application filed December 6, 1919. Serial No. 342,906.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM Z. RUBIN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and Sputum-Cup,
useful Improvements in Holder; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will-enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to an improved cup holder of the type used for holding a cup containing a spit box such as is used in consumptive hospitals and one object of the invention is to provide a holder so constructed that the cup may be easily and quickly put in place or removed and to further so construct a holder that the cup can not slip out of place when in position.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this holder that it may be swung out of the way when not in use, thus preventing it from being accidentally struck.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this holder that the bracket forming one of the elements thereof may be socurely but releasably connected with a bed post at the desired height.
Another object of the invention is to so construct this holder that the cup engaging portion thereof may be formed from a strand of heavy wire and the bracket formed of wire and sheet metal, thus permitting the device to be made cheaply.
This invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings wherein;
Figure 1 is a view and side elevation showing the holder applied to a bed with the cup in position,
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the holder.
The bracket used in connection with this holder is provided with a plate 10 having openings formed therein to receive the arms of the yoke 11 which extends about the bed post 12. Nuts 13 are screwed upon the threaded end portions of the arms of this yoke, thereby permitting the bracket to be securely but releasably held in engagement with the bed post atthe desired point thereon. Tongues extend from the upper and lower edges of this plate 10 and are bent to extend outwardly therefrom, thus providmg upper and lower bearings 14. The holder is formed from a strand of heavy wire which is bent in intermediate its length to provide a U-shaped support 15, having arms 16 extending upwardly therefrom in spaced relation as shown in Fig. 2. The arms are then bent to provide a rectangular frame 17 having a shank 18 extended therefrom and bent to provide a side arm 19 which extends 7 through the bearings 14. After the pivot pin has been passed through the bearings the securing nut 21 will be holder may be swung to one side out of the way and swung into place for use when desired' By providing the holder with the construction clearly shown in Fig. 2, the cup 22 may be placed in the rectangular frame and will rest upon the support 15 with the handle 23 positioned between the arms 16. Therefore, the cup will be securely held and will be prevented from being accidentally knocked out of the holder. At the same time the cup may be easily grasped by the handle and removed.
What is claimed is 7 1. A holder of the character described, comprising a bracket having upper and lower bearings, and an article engaging element formed ofv a strand of wire bent intermediate its length to provide a substantially U-shaped support having arms extending therefrom in spaced relation, the arms being bent to provide an open frame for extending about an article resting upon said support, one end portion of the strand being bent to provide a shank extending from the frame and being then bent to provide a side arm for the shank terminating in a depending pivot terminating in a depending pivot pin 20 pin extending through the bearings of said I article support having arms extending therefrom and carried upwardly in spaced relaof the strand being bentto provide a shank extending from the frame and. terminating in a pivot pin engaging thebearing bracket to pivotally connect the article engaging element with thebmcket; I r
Intestimony whereof I affix my-signature in presence of two Witnesses.
