This invention relates to an adjustable window shade and curtain bracket and the main object of the invention is to provide a bracket that may be adjusted in accordance with the length of the shade roller and the brackets have been positioned on the window casing,
Thus, once the bracket has been installed, it does not have to be reset and shades can be mounted without having to be cut or trimmed to a pre-determined size as would occur if the bracket was not adjustable.
With the above and other objects and advantages in view, the invention consists of the novel details of construction, combination and arrangement of parts, to be more particularly described, pointed out in the appended claim and illustrated in the accompanying drawing in which- Figure 1 is a front elevation of an embodiment of the invention;
Figure 2 is a side elevation thereof;
Figure 3 is a top plan view;
Figure 4 is a detailed fragmentary view partly in section of the adjusting meansfor the bracket;
Figure 5 is a rear View;
Figure 6 is a front view of the window casing engaging portion of the bracket, and
Figure 7 is a sectional View on the line L-I of Figure 5.
Referring more in detail to the drawing, the reference numeral Ml designates the bracket which is made in pairs, viz: a left hand bracket and a right hand bracket.
The bracket it comprises a base plate or body portion it comprising a longitudinally extending member M, the end portions of which are turned inwardly as at so as to space it from the window casing l8.
Secured to the under-surface of the body portion it by spot welding or the like, is the vertical body supporting member 2% which is apertured at each end to receive fastening means 22 in fastening the assembly, thus described, to the window casing 18.
The member 2a is secured to the portion l2 at its medial portion and due to the inwardly turned end portions it slots 25 are provided on opposite sides of the member 2K; to receive the offset downwardly extending tongue 26 which is welded to the top surface of the screw housing 28.
The housing 23 comprises a single strip of metal which is bent to form a rectangle having rounded ends 30 or the housing may be formed of rectangular shaped tubing cut to the desired size.
The housing 223 is provided with openings 32 in its oppositely disposed ends 3&- which are ans-271) adapted to rotatably support the adjusting screw 36.
The screw 38 is provided with a slotted head 38 and an eared lock nut 40 which when tightened retains the screw in fixed relation to the housing 28.
On the screw it is mounted the shade bracket M. The bracket shown is provided near its outer end with a slot 34 and the other bracket will be formed with an aperture in the conventional manner to receive the pintles of the shade roller which is not shown.
After the body portions I2 havebeen secured to the right and left hand sides of the window casing 18 as already described by means of fastening means 22, the tongue 26 of the housing 28 can be inserted in one of the slots 24 most nearly approximating the size of the window shade holder. Then by loosening the lock nut til, rotation of the screw 36 is permitted.
By rotating the screw .36, either clockwise or counterclockwise, the bracket 42 can be adjusted to hold the shade roller after which the nut 40 can be tightened, thus retaining the bracket 42 in fired relation to the housing 28 and the shade roller.
It will be evident that a close adjustment of the bracket 42 will be possible so that the shade on the shade roller may hang perfectly symmetrical with relation to the window opening.
It is to be understood, however, that the invention is not to be confined to the precise details of construction and arrangements of parts, as shown herein, since the invention is susceptible of numerous changes within the scope of the invention as defined by the appended claim,
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters Patent is:
A device of the character described, comprising a cross shaped body having a vertically positioned portion and a horizontal positioned portion secured to the vertically positioned portion centrally thereof, inturned ends on said horizontally positioned portion to space said body portion from the window casing on which it is to be mounted, a screw housing, an offset downwardly extending tongue on said housing adapted to be inserted in the space intermediate of said horizontally positioned portion and said window casing on opposite ends of said vertically positioned por- REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the file of this patent:
