TMll whom t may, Convenir Y Beit'linowii ],"J.`o', n J. Frsonnu, a citizen of the United States, residing at Aialia; lftbecounty' of Hamilton 'and State of Indiana, have invented certain `new and useful Improvements in `Adjustable Combination Window-Shade and Curtain- Pfle, Holders; and'I do hereby declare the i fqllewingfto be afull, clear, and exact description' of the invention, such as will enable others', skilled theart vtoy whichit appertains' to make land use the same. f, f
invention relates to combined .window shade brackets and curtainlpolesupports, and more particularly to devicesof this claaracter which` are adjustable to accommodate shade rollers of different lengths.
The invention has for one of its objects the provision of a combined window shade bracket and curtain pole support of the character stated which shall be adapted to be secured to a window, door frame or other frame without the use of nails or screws, whereby to prevent the marring of the woodwork and permit the application of the device in a comparatively short time and with an expenditure of comparatively little effort.
A further object of the invention is the provision of a combinedv window shade bracket and curtain pole support of the character stated which shall be neat in appearance, which shall comprise comparatively few parts, and which can be manufactured at a comparatively low cost.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and
illustrated in the accompanying drawing,V
wherein:
Figure 1 is a view in front elevation of the upper portion of a window frame illustrating the application of the combined shade bracket and curtain pole support,
Figure 2 is a sectional View taken on the vertical plane indicated by the line 2 2 of Figure 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows,
Figure 3 is a sectional view taken on the horizontal plane indicated by the line 3-3 of Figure 1, looking in the direction indicated by the arrows, and
Figure 4 is a detail view in rear elevation of the attaching and supporting plate of the combined window shade bracket and curtain pole .Support- "Corresponding and like parts are referred toy in the," following description, and designated in the accompanying drawing, by similar reference characters. 7
the drawing, 1 designates the side and 2 the'top of a window casing which is shown-for the purpose of illustrating onek application of the combined windowshadc bracket and curtain pole support.
The ldevice comprises a plate 3 which` is preferably of elongated rectangular formation and .which is adaptedv to be secured to e dOOi'i'WindOW-Or Otherfl'ame by' prongs al. These elements arev secured to the rends,
of the plate 3 Iby spring arms '5 which tend to constantly urge the prongs l in the direction of each other, whereby to vprevent the prongs from becoming accidentally withdrawn from the casingA ot the door, window or other frame to which the device is applied. A spring tongue 6 preferably provided with curved side edges 7 and a sub stantially circular lower end 8, depends from the lower edge of the plate 3. A block 9 preferably made of rubber and adapted to assist the prongs 4 in supporting the plate 3, is secured to the inner side of the lower end 8 of the tongue 6, and is adapted to be held in frictional contact with the face of the frame .by the tongue.v
An angular arm 10 having a vertical member'll and a horizont-al and forwardly eX- tending member 12, is connected to the plate 3 for Alongitudinal adjustment with respect thereto by means of a bolt 13 which passes through a longitudinally extending slot 14 in the plate 3 and through the vertical member 11. By turning the nut 15 of the bolt 13 in one direction, the arm'lO is secured to the plate 3 against casual movement in the ydirection of the length thereof, and by turning the nut inthe reverse direction, the arm is freed for adjustment longitudinally of the plate. To prevent the arm 10 from hav.- ing any rocking movement on the bolt 13,
the member 11 thereof is provided with a rib 16 which contacts with the upper edge of the plate 3. Near the outer end thereof, the member 12 of the arm 10 is provided with a curtain pole receiving recess 17, and at its outer end this part is provided with a pendant portion 18 the sole function of pole support is secured to each side l ot.
the Window or other trame.l The prongs e of the devices are embedded in` the inner and outer edges oit the` sides L and the friction blocks 9 Contact with the outer faces ot' the sides. After adjusting; the arms l0 upon the plates 3 to adapt them to the length ot the shade roller to be supported, said parts are secured in adjusted position. The shade roller shown in `dotted lines and designated 2O is then applied to the lugs 19. Alfter this has been done, the curtain pole shown in dotted lines and designated Q1 is mounted in the recesses 17.
From the foregoing` description, taken in connection With the accompanying drawing, the advantages ot' the construction of the combined Window shade 1eraclret and curtain pole support will be readilv apparent to those skilled in the art to which it appertains. While I have described and shown what I now consider to be the hest embodiramener l. A bracket of the, character setforth comprising a plate provided at its ends With spring arms carrying prongs and intermediate its ends with a spring tongue carrying Va friction bloeit, said prongs and block constitwting means adapted to secure therplate to a support and the springarms and tongue constitutinpT means adapted to hold said prongs and block in enga-gement With the sup}: ort and supporting` elements connected to the plate.
2. A bracket of vthe character set A'forth comprising;i a plate,`ele1nents carried by the plate for engagement with a support, a spring carried by the plate, a friction block carried h v the spring' .and adapted to be held in contact with the support to assist said elenients in securing` the plate to the support, and supporting' elements carried hy the plate.
In testimonyv whereof I affix inv signature.
JOHN JJ FISCHER.
