2 Claims. 1
This invention relates todisplay and shipping apparatus.
The principal object of this invention is the provision of-displ-ay and shipping apparatuswhich is of novel construction to facilitate economy in manufacture and efiiciency in use.
The novel features of the invention will be hereinafter more fully referred to in connection with the following description of the invention.
With the foregoing and various other novel features and advantages-and other objects of my invention as will become more apparent as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of parts as will be hereinafter more particularly pointed out in the claims hereunto annexed and more fully described and referred to in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein:
Fig. 1 is a plan view of a blank arranged and adapted to provide the display apparatus of the invention;
Fig. 2 is an edge view of the blank shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a front elevational-view of the display apparatus;
Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the appa ratus shown in Fig. 3;
Fig. 5 is av sectional view on the line 55 of Fig. 3; and
Fig. 6 is a perspective view of a display plaque of the apparatus.
Referring. now to the drawings. more in detail the invention will be fully described.
A blank 2 is provided which is folded transversely to. have front and rear side portions t and 5.
Previous to .folding the frontand rear portions they are formed similarly to have central front and rear panels 8, upper article supporting panels I0 and lower article supporting panels l2 hinged to upper and lower edges of the panels 8 as at [4 and l5.
Lower supporting panels l8 are hinged to panels 12 to 20 and locking panels 22 are hinged to said panels 18 at 24. Slits 26 are provided in panels 8 to form locking tabs 23 and openings 30 are provided in panels 22 for receiving the tabs 28, as will later appear.
Longitudinal spacing panels 32 are hinged at 34 to the panels It and locking panels 36 are hinged thereto at 38. Other locking panels 40 are hinged at 42 to the panels 36. The panels l0 and I2 are provided with openings or sockets 44 and 46.
' described they are secured in back to back superposedrelationby a flap 48*which is hinged to onecentral pane1 '8 and overlies and issecured to the other central panel 8.
There maybe a slot 50' in-one section for receiving atab 52* cut from the 'OthBl'SECtlOl'lk *Said tab and slot may not be necessary in a11-cases but will serve when engaged tolock the parts in "set up relation whendesired and necessary. Locking tabsare formed byslits 62- inone member 22, are bendable online 24 and are receivable in openings 64 when theparts are in setup relation shown in Fig. 5-andmay be used when desired.
The blank is set up in the mannernow tobe described.
' "The lower article supporting-panels l2 are bent angularly outwardl-y'and-the supporting panels were bent inwardly-relative thereto with the panels22 bent-upwardly insuperposed relation and insertedbetween the-central panels 8.
The panels ZZ-are movedupwardly between the panels 8 sufiicie'ntly' forthetabs 28' to be pressed inwardly, through the openings 3lltherein. Then the panels 22are-moved downwardly so thatthe tabs 28 'are'disposed behind the panels 22; as shown inqFijg. 5. In this way the panels 22- are held by the tabs 28" against displacement from" between the cen- 'tralLpanels 8. "The-panel's Hi-arebent outwardly and the panels 342"are"'brought intojparallelism with the panels 4ll'and' portions of the panels 3% inserted in superposed relation between the panels 8. v
"The'panels til-provide a-supportfor the structure and the construction is" such that the ar-- .ticle supporting panels i=2a1eh'ld inthe'angular position shown.
The panels 35 and 40 between the panels 8 in conjunction with the spacing panels 32 hold the upper supporting panels in their angular relation.
The panels Ill and I2 at opposite sides of the structure and at upper and lower sides of the central panels are thus held in relatively diverging relation for supporting various objects.
The openings 44 and 46 in the supporting panels may take various forms for supporting various objects thereby to display them. Collapsible tubes 50' are shown in dash lines as an example which have lower ends disposed in the openings 46 while wire loops 52 at their upper ends are disposed in the openings 44.
The openings will be formed to receive opposite ends of the articles to be displayed in such a way that the articles will not be displaced. And the display device may be packed in a box or carton in such a way that the articles are held from the sides of said carton and therefor protected against injury.
The panels 36 and 40 may be provided with a slit 56 forming plaque sections 58 which may carry display or advertising matter. These sections 58 may be disposed between the central panels or they may project upwardly as shown by dash lines 58 in Fig. 3. Otherwise or in addition to the sections a, display card or cards carrying advertising or other matter may be provided for shipping between the members 36 at the upper end of the device. And the panels 8 and other portions of the device may carry advertising or other matter.
A display panel 66 is shown in Fig. 6 which may be formed from a single sheet, plural sheets, or from a single sheet doubled upon itself. It is adapted to carry printed matter and may be inserted between the members 36 when the device is in set up relation.
Altogether the device is simple in form and being made from a singlesheet of material it is economical to manufacture. -At the same time the novel construction provides a practical and efficient device for displaying objects which is adaptable for ready and easy packing and shipment in such a way as to protect the objects to be displayed thereby.
The invention may be embodied in other specific forms without departing from the essential characteristics thereof. Hence, the present embodiments are therefore to be considered in all respects merely as being illustrative and not as being restrictive, the scope of the invention being indicated by the appended claims rather than by the foregoing description, and all modifications and variations as fall within the meaning and purview and range of equivalency of the appended claims are therefore intended to be embraced therein.
What it is desired to claim and secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
