This invention relates to a novel "article holder adapted for placement upon a table for containcylindrical articles; knives,'forks, spoons and napkins or other table utensils and concerns itself with a structure susceptible of .beingstamped from sheet metal and easily assembled to produce a compact and durable holder of pleasing symmetry.
The invention comprises the novel structure and combination of parts hereinafter described and more particularly pointed out and defined in the appended claims. I r Initheaccompanying drawing which illustrates a:preferred form of this invention and in which similar reference characters refer to similar features in the different views:
Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of an article holder involving this invention. I
Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same.
Fig. 3 is a rear elevational view of the holder, and
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken substantially upon the line 44 of Fig. 1 looking in the direction of the arrows.
In referring now to the drawing which illustrates the preferred embodiment of this invention, there is shown an article holder comprising a semi-cylindrical base 6 which may be stamped from sheet metal to provide an elevated platform 5a and a downwardly extending flange 5b having a forwardly extending foot 50 on the arcuate perimeter. This foot may be reinforced bydoubling or folding the metal as shown .in Fig. 4.
A channel-like and oblong member 6 consisting of side walls 1 and 8 and end walls 9 which also may be made from sheet metal is attached to the rear margin of the platform 5a by welding or the like. Partitions I 0 divide the channel-like member into a plurality of separate compartments for containing table utensils such as knives, spoons and forks.
Upon the front wall of the upright member 6, there are attached a plurality of band-like keepers ll, i2 and I3 adapted for containing cylindrical articles such as salt and pepper shakers and vinegar jars. The ends of these keeper fbands-are welded or soldered to the wall I while the lower edges may be similarly attached to the 40mi s. (01.85-65) are attached to the wall 1 and to the outer sur-' faces of thekeepers H and I3 and their lower: edges are'attached "to the platform preferably by welding orsolder'ingj They not only serve 'jas holders? they close the objectionable comers and also serve to' laterally brace the keepers therebetween."
Upon the rearwall 8 of the member 6, there' is yieldingly attached a keeper plate l5 to the" ends of which coil springs l6 are secured which in turn are anchored to the wall 8 under sufllcient tension to properly support the plate l5. Napkins are adapted to be retained between the wall 8 and plate l5- v I It will be appreciated that the construction inwhich the keepers II, I! and I3 are attached to both the upright member 6 and the base 5 is well braced; The keepers serve to laterally brace the upright article holding member 6 and this would preclude the upright member from listing in either direction thru its minor axis. Likewise, the keepers serve to brace each other in lateral directions. As a result, a very durable structure is obtained.
It will further be appreciated that in stamping the parts from sheet metal and assembling the same in the manner stated, much time and labor can be saved in the manufacture. Yet the device may be made from plastics.
It is possible to easily handle and transport the holder from the table to the kitchen to receive the utensils after they are washed and dried and then if desired it may be placed in a closet or cabinet until it is desired to use the same again. In this manner, the device becomes very useful.
I am aware that many changes may be made and various details of construction varied without departing from the principles of this invention so I do not propose limiting the patent granted otherwise than necessitated by the prior art and appended claims.
I claim as my invention:
1. In a device of the class described. a flat base having a rear straight edge and a front arcuate edge, an upright channel-like article holding member having a front wall and a rear wall in parallel relation, said walls having their bottom edges resting upon and secured to said base with the rear wall in flush relation withthe rear edge, a series of article holding keepers having lateral edges attached to the front wall of said member and having lower edges attached to said base and serving to brace said member.
2. In a device of the class described, a base 3. having a straight rear edge and a front arcuate edge, an upright article holding member having 'a rear wall and a front wall in parallel relation welded to said base, a series of article holding keepers having lateral edges secured to the front wall of said member and lower edges supported upon said base and serving to brace said member.
3. In a device of the class described, a flat base having a rear straight edge and a front arcuate edge, an upright channel-like" article lioldingl member having a rear wall substantially flush with said straight edge and a front wall in par allel relation to the rear wall, said walls having' their bottom edges resting upon and secured-to said base and a series of parti-cylindrical article holdin keepers having lateral edges mama to said front wall and having lower edgessupported upon said base and serving to brace said channel like member.
4. In a device of the class described, a flat base having a :rear edge and a front 'arcuate-edge, an.-
