Thi invention relates to window locks.
An object of this invention is to provide a lock for interlocking double hung window sash and comprising a bracket adapted to be attached to one window sash and slidably supporting a member adapted to be pressed against another window sash, and highly improved means on the bracket for pressing said member against said other window sash.
Yet another object of this invention is to provide a lock of the character described comprising a bracket adapted to be attached to a window sash, a pin slidably mounted on the bracket and having a head adapted to be pressed against another window sash, said bracket having an arm extending at right angles to the first window sash and formed with an offset finger, a screw screwed to said finger, and a cam on said screw slidably engaging said arm and adapted to contact the pin for forcing the pin against said other window sash.
Another object of this invention is to provide a highly improved window lock of the character described for locking both windows, with either window partly open and which look shall be jimmy-proof so that the windows cannot be forced from the outside.
Still a further object of this invention is to provide a strong, rugged and durable window lock of the character described, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, easy to manipulate, and yet practical and efficient to a high degree in use.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in which is shown various possible illustrative embodiments of this invention,
Fig. l is a front view of a window lock embodying the invention shown mounted in position for attaching together a double hung window sash;
Fig. 2 is a cross-sectional view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1; and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the lock.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, II and I I designate a window sash slidable within a window frame Illa. Mounted on the upper edge plate I5 is formed with a plurality of spaced through openings for receiving screws It or the said window sash. Said plate I5 is provided with a boss 20 formed with a horizontal through opening 2| parallel to plate I5 and spaced therefrom. Opening 2| i perpendicular to the front face of the side portion of the frame of the upper window sash II.
Extending from plate I5 is an arm 25 disposed at right angles thereto and projecting upwardly. Extending at right angles from arm 25 toward sash II is a finger 26 perpendicular to said arm and parallel to plate [5.
Integrally formed with finger 25 is a boss 2? of any suitable shape. The finger 28 and boss 21 are formed with a screw threaded through opening 28. Screwed within said opening is a screw 29. At the upper end of the screw is a wing handle 3!]. Screw 29 is formed with a reduced smooth shank 3|. At the lower end of the shank 3| is an enlarged head 32. On the shank 3! is a cam member 33 having an edge 34 slidably contacting arm 25. I
Said member 33 is furthermore formed with a through opening 35 in which the shank portion 3| rotates. At the lower end of opening 35 is a counterbored portion 36 receiving the head 32.
It will now be understood that upon rotating screw 29, member 33 will be moved downwardly or upwardly depending upon thedirection of rotation. Member 33 is formed with an inclined cam edge 38 on the side thereof opposite its edge M, for the purpose hereinafter appearing.
Slidably mounted on boss 2!! is a stop member 46. Said stop member ts comprises a pin ll slidably extending through opening 2!. The rear end of pin fill is tapered and contacts the cam surfa e 38. At the front end of pin i! is a lug 53 adapted to contact surface it of boss 29 to prevent the pin from being moved out of the boss. On the rear end of pintl is a cylindrical head it formed with a through opening M5 to receive the pin. Pin -H may be fixed to the head by means of drive pin 48. On head 45 is a socket 55.. Received within the socket is a pad 5i made of rubber or the like compressible material. The pad 5! is formed with a reduced portion engaging within socket 5i] and with a flange 52 contacting the forward edge of the head. The pad 5! is adapted to contact the side portion of the frame of the upper window sash I I.
It will now be understood that upon rotating the screw 29 downwardly, the stop member QB will move inwardly and pad 5! will be pressed against the window frame of sash II to prevent opening of the windows. However, when the pin 29 is rotated in an opposite direction, pressure on the stop member 40 will be released so that the window can be opened.
and when so locked'neither window can be forced from the outside. The lock is jimmy-proof and operates easily by merely screwing one screw downwardly from a position where it is easily operated.
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which iswell adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. A window lock comprising a bracket provided with a portion adapted to' be attached to a window, a boss on said portion, an arm extending at right angles to said portion and spaced from the boss. a finger on said arm parallel to said portion, said finger being formedwith a screwthreaded through opening, a screw screwed within said threaded opening, a cam rotatably receiving said screw and slidably contacting said arm, said boss being formed with a through opening perpendicular to i said screw, and a sto member slidably extending through said through opening in the boss and engaging said cam.
2. A window lock comprising a bracket provided with a portion adapted to be attached to a window, a boss on said portion, an arm extending at right angles to said portion and spaced from the boss, a finger on said arm parallel to said portion, said finger being formed with a screw threaded through opening, a screw screwed within said screwed opening, a cam rotatably receiving said screw and slidably contacting said arm, said boss being formed with a through opening perpendicular to said screw, and a sto member slidably extending through. said through opening in the boss and engaging said cam, said stop member being provided with a head formed with a socket, and a pad within said socket.

A window lock comprising a bracket provided with a portion adaptedto be attached to a window, a boss on said portion, an arm extending at right angles to said portion and spaced from the boss, a finger on said arm parallel to said portion,. said finger being formed with a screw threaded through opening, a screw screwed within said screwed opening, a cam rotatably' receiving said screw. and slidably contacting said arm, said boss bein formed with a through opening perpendicular to said screw, and a stop member slidably extending through said through opening in the boss andengaging said cam, said stop member being provided with a head formed with a socket, and a pad within said socket, and means on the stop member to prevent the latter from being pulled out of said boss.

A window lock comprising a member adapted to be attached to a lower window sash, a stop member slidably mounted thereon, a screw screwed to said member and disposed perpendicular to said stop member, a cam onsaid screw adapted to engage said stop member for pressing the same against an upper window sash, said cam being formed with a bearing, and said screw having a portion journalle'd in said bearing, and said member having a guide means engaging said cam, and means to cause said cam means to move upon turning said screw.
5. A window lock comprising a bracket having a pair of parallel portions, and a portion interconnecting said parallel portions, 3, stop member slidably mounted on one of said parallel portions, 1 a screw screwed to the other of said parallel portiens and disposed at right angles to said stop member, and a cam rotatably receiving said screw and slidably engaging said interconnecting portion, said cam having a surface adapted to engage said stop member for moving the latter upon turning said screw.

A window lock comprising a bracket having a portion adapted to be attached to a window sash, an arm extending at right angles to said portion, and a finger extending at rightangl'es to said arm and disposed parallel to said portion, a boss on said portion spaced from said arm, said boss being formed with a through opening parallel to said portion, said finger being formed with a screw threaded opening, parallel to said arm, a stop member comprising a pin passing through the opening in the boss, a head on said pin, a screw screwed to said screw threaded opening, and a cam rotatably receiving a portion of said screw and slidably engaging said arm, said cam having a surface engaging one end of said pin.

A window lock comprising a bracket having a portion adapted to contact the window, an arm extending at right angles to said portion, and a finger extendin at right angles to said arm and disposed parallel to said portion, a boss on said portion spaced from said arm, said boss being formed with a through opening parallel to said portion, said finger being formed with a screw threaded opening parallel to said arm, a stop member comprising a pin passing through the opening in the boss, a head on said pin, a screw screwed to said screw threaded opening, a cam rotatably receiving a portion of said screw and slidably engaging said arm, said cam having a surface engaging one end of said pin, and a handle on said screw. 7

A window lock comprising a bracket having a portion adapted to contact the window, an arm extending at right angles to said portion, and a finger extending at right angles to said arm and disposed parallel to said portion, a boss on said portion spaced from said arm, said boss being formed with a through opening parallel to said portion, said finger being formed with a screw threaded opening parallel to said arm, a stop member comprising a pin passing through the opening in the boss, a head on said pin, a screw screwed to said screw threaded opening, a cam i'otatably receiving a portion of said screw and slidably engaging said arm, said cam having a surface engaging one end of said pin, and a hanl'e on said screw, said stop member having a' REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the le of this patent:
