This invention relates to an adjustable striker plate for doors.

It is an object of the present invention to provide an adjustable and reversible striker plate for use with doors whereby to eliminate and take up any play or rattle that occurs after a period of time in a door and whereby upon the plate being reversible, the same may be adapted for doors swinging from either the right or left side of the door opening and whereby to eliminate the necessity for having to cut the door jam or alter it in any way different from that by which it was originally. l

Other objects of the present invention are to provide an adjustable and reversible striker plate for doors which is of simple construction, inexpensive to manufacture, easy to adjust or reverse and emcient in operation.

For other objects and for a better understanding of the invention, reference may be had to the following detailed description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. 1 is a plan view looking upon one side'of the striker plate and the adjustable striker thereon.

Fig. 2 is a plan View looking upon the reverse side of the striker plate and upon the adjustable striker thereon.

Fig. 3 is a side elevational view of the plate and the striker.

Fig. 4 is a side elevational view of the striker plate with the adjustable striker device mounted on the opposite side of the plate.

Fig. 5 is a fragmentary plan view of the plate with the adjustable striker removed therefrom.

Fig. 6 is an end elevational view of the plate looking into the opening into which the striker may be extended.

Fig. 7 is a transverse sectional view taken on line I-I of Fig. 1 and showing the striker.

Referring now to the figures, I represents a striker plate having a plurality of countersunk lopenings Il adapted to receive screws for securing the plate to the door. The openings II are countersunk on the opposite faces of the plate whereby the plate may be reversed. Adapted to be secured to the plate at either side thereof is a plate I2 in which the striker element I3 is connected by an adjusting screw Il which is adjustable in a depending flange I thereof.

The plate I0 has a slot IG on one side of the same and in the edges of the slot are grooves Il for receiving beads I8 of the striker I3. The striker I3 has a depending projection I9 in which the screw I4 is journalled as indicated at 2 I. The screw I4 has a head 22 which is accessible through an opening. The plate I2 is secured to either face of the plate I0 by screws 25. The usual elongated opening 2l is provided for the lock bolt.

By turning the screw I4, the striker element I3 can be adjusted to the desired position to best receive the latch on the door.

While various changes may be made in the detail construction, it shall be understood that such changes shall be within the spirit and scope of the present invention as dened by the appended claim.

I claim:

In combination, a striker plate having an opening in one side of the same, a striker element adjustable in the opening of the plate, a member adapted to be connected to the plate and having a depending portion, an adjusting screw adjustable through the depending portion, said striker element having a depending portion receiving said adjusting screw, grooves disposed respectively in lthe opposite sides o fthe opening, said striker REFERENCES CITED The following references are of record in the ille of this patent:
