Description

Oct. 2, 1945. A PQTOCZKY 2,386,059 7 A HAI JGER ATTACHMENT FOR LADIES GARMENTS Filed July 7, 1944 l Inventor (75551; 5. Broczkn I /6 c2 7 B] Patented Dot. 2, 1945 U N D g i l FOR LAD'IES TENT OFFICE? GARMENTS' Y Kw Josepha. Potoczky, Silver Spring, Md.
f -A pplication July 7. 1944, Serial No. 543,885 is Claims. (Cl. 22888) This invention relates to 'new and useful improvements in garment hangers and more particularly to an attachment which can be applied a to conventional hangers for the purpose of positively hanging ladies garments, such as undergarments by their shoulder straps.
At present, it is very difiicult to suspend ladies upon which the shoulder straps A can rest, in contrast to the sloping portion 1 of a conventional hanger.
The body ll! of the attachment further consist's 1 in being formed with a transverse groove 'adja cent'the groove M. This groove I5 is substan -E tially deep to receive the horizontal portion -6 of undergarmentson conventional hangers by their shoulder straps due to the tendency of'the straps to slip off of the ends of the hangers, and with this in view, it is the principal object of the present invention to provide as'mall inexpensive attachment which can be almost instantly applied to conventional wire hangers so as to provide hook into which'the shoulder straps of ladies garments can be inserted for positively retaining the garments against displacement.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of a conventional hanger showing the attachment applied.
Figure 2 is an enlarged elevational view showing the grooved side of one of the attachments.
Figure 3 is an edge elevational view of one of the attachments.
Figure 4 is a cross-sectional view taken substantially on the line 4-4 of Figure 3.
Referring to the drawing wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that numeral 5 generally refers to a conventional wire hanger which consists of a single length of wire bent to provide a horizontal member 6, sloping shoulder portions 1, 1 and a hook 8.
On each end of such a hanger, an attachment 9 (the present invention) can be easily applied for the purpose of engaging the shoulder strap A of a ladys undergarment B as is clearly shown in broken lines in Figure 1.
It is preferable that the attachment 9 be made of plastic, but, of course, the same can be made of any suitable material and color to meet the demands of the buying public.
The attachment consists of an elongated block I0 preferably cut off on an oblique at one end as the conventional hanger and ha'sf small lips l6" alternately placed on opposite side "portions thereof. The body [0 is formed With grooves l1,"
one at each side of the groove l5, the grooves ll not being deep as the groove l5, butallowing for f the fiexation of 'thebody l0 at the'lips-"IG. 'In' other words, when the body In is pres's ed ag ainst;
for instance, the portion 6 of thdhangi andpressure is exerted again'stthe lips l6, that por f tion of the material of the attachment will flex due to the presence of the grooves 11 and allow the space of the groove [5 to widen sufficiently to accept the horizontal member 6 of the hanger.
The upper portion-of the body I0 is likewise provided with an obliquely disposed groove I511, lips lfia and lateral shallower grooves Ila to accommodate the corresponding sloping portion I of the conventional hanger.
It has been found that'due to the resilient nature of plastic, plastic is a very suitable material for the construction of these attachments.
The attachment can be constructed very economically and can be retailed at a very low price.
The depth of the grooves l5, lEa may necessitate the provision of reinforcing ribs l8 molded of the same material, along the back side of the body ID, as is suggested in Figure 3.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what as new is:
1. A hanger attachment of the character described comprising a body provided with a garment engaging means and formed with grooves for receiving portions of a triangular Wire hanger, said body being formed with shallower grooves adjacent said first mentioned grooves to increase the flexibility of the body at said first-mentioned groove.
2. A hanger attachment or the character described comprising a body provided with a garment engaging means, and formed with grooves for receiving portions of the triangular wire hanger, said body being formed with shallower is claimed tion having grooves therein, one of said grooves being disposed in non-parallel relation to the other, one groove being adapted to engage the-.
