'3 Claims.

The present invention relates generally to garment hangers, more particularly to garment hangers for supporting coats and trousers, and specifically to garment hangers constructed from sheet materials forsupporting coats and trousers.

The principal object of the present invention is to provide an improved garment hanger of the character described, in the use of which the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers are avoided and cannot occur.

Another object of the .present invention is to provide an improved garment hanger of the character described, in which the means for the preventing of the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers is readily securable to, and detachable from, the body oftheimproved garment hanger.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved garment hanger of the character described, which, though constructed wholly of sheet materials, shall possess'the strength and rigidity of garment hangers constructed of materials of greater intrinsic strengths.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved garment hanger of the character described and fulfilling the objects previously mentioned, which can be constructed economically out of the minimum amount of sheet material, which in semi-assembled state can readily be packed and shipped in fiat condition, and which can readily and quickly be assembled completely when required for use.

Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved garment hanger of the character described, wherein the member serving as the means for the securing of the body of the improved garment hanger to a suitable support shall possess strength more than adequately substantial for the purpose which it is to subserve.

The attainment of these and other objects of the present invention and the advantages attendant upon its use will readily become apparent when consideration is given to the following description thereof, and to the accompanying drawing thereof, which forms a part of the specification, and wherein:

Fig. 1 is a front elevation of the body of the improved garment hanger, showing a central portion which is removable to serve as the means for the preventing of the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers when hung upon th improved garment hanger.

Fig. 2 is a plan view of the member which serves as the means for the securing of the body of the improved garment hanger to a suitable venting of the formations of support, just as that member is formed out of suitable sheet materials by stamping, and before it is bent, folded, and secured to the body of the improved garment hanger.

Fig. 3 is a view in perspective of the assembled improved garment hanger, showing themember which serves as the means for the securing of the body of the improved garment hanger to a suitable support, and showing the member which serves as the means for the preventing of the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers when hung upon the improved garment hanger and the mode of securing detachably to the body of the improved garment hanger the member which serves as the means for the pre-:

Fig. 4 is aside elevation in crosssectionalong the line 4, 4, of Fig. 3 of the assembled improved garment hanger, showing the details of construction of the member which serves as the means for the securing of the body of the improved garment hanger to a suitable support, and showing the member which serves as the means for the preventing of the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers when hung upon the improved garment hanger and the mode of securing detachably to the body of the improved garment hanger the member which serves as the means for the preventing of the formations of undesirable transverse creases in trousers when hung upon the improved garment hanger.

In the drawing, I is the body of the improved garment hanger, which may consist of any suitable sheet material of thickness adequate to afford sufficient strength thereto, and which is given the conformation shown in the drawing, in order that it may be able to receive and to support a coat. Out of the central portion of the body I of the improved garment hanger is stamped the member 3, which may be termed a trouser guard, and which is provided with a plurality of transverse parallel incisions 4, 4, such that that portion of the trouser guard 3 containing such incisions can be bent, folded, and rolled to yield a substantially cylindrical surface. The body I of the improved garment hanger is further provided with one or more incisions 5, 5, adapted to receive a plane portion of the trouser guard 3 in a manner to be described presently.

In the drawing, 2 is the member which serves as the means for the securing of the body I of the improved garment hanger to a suitable support and which may be termed the supporting member. As is shown in Figs. 3 and 4, the supporting member 2 is bent, folded, and secured at its ends, by any suitable adhesive, to the body I of the improved garment hanger in such a man ner that the two plies, of sheet material are united at their tops in a fold along a line that is substantially parallel to the line of support for the trousers in the improved garment hanger. In this form of construction, it has been found that the supporting member 2 possesses rigidity and strength greater than in any form of construction wherein the line of union of the two plies of sheet material is inclined at any appreciable angle to the line of support for the trousers in the improved garment hanger; or, in other words, wherein the line of union of the two plies of sheet material is inclined at any appreciable angle to the horizontal, when the supporting member 2 is hung upon a support.

In Figs. 3 and 4, the trouser guard 3 is shown bent, folded, and rolled toprovide a substantially cylindrical surface, and the plane portion of the trouser guard 3 inserted into the incisions 5, 5, in the body I of the improved garment hanger and held detachably in position by and between the body I of the improved garment hanger and the strip thereof intervening between the incisions 5., 5, in the body I of the improved garment hanger. Now when trousers are draped over the substantially cylindrical surface presented by the bent, folded and. rolled portion of the trouser guard 3', there can be no formations of undesirable transverse creases in the trousers.

The improved garment hanger described above may beformedout of any suitable sheet material, such as thin sheet metal, fiber board, cardboard, or similar materials.

I am aware that there is known in the art a trouser guard in. the form of a device having a longitudinal cylindrical surface and provided with notches in its ends to engage with the body of a garment hanger at the ends of. its trouser receiving slot; but such trouser guard is less easily securable to, and detachable from, the body of the garment hanger than is the trouser guard 3 of the present invention.

While I have shown a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the present invention is not to be limited thereto, for it is to be understood to be as broadly novel as is commensurate with the scopes of the appended claims.

Having thus described the present invention, I claim:

1. A garment hanger comprising a body of sheet material provided with a centrally located opening having a straight longitudinal base line and a supporting member consisting of two plies of sheet material whose lower ends are secured to the opposite facesof the upper portion of the body of sheet material and whose upper ends are united along a line substantially parallel with the straight longitudinal base line of the centrally located opening in the body of sheet material.

2. A garment hanger comprising a body of sheet material provided with a centrally located opening having a straight longitudinal base line and a supporting member consisting of sheet material in the form of a double hook, bent and folded along a line defining the upper edges of the hooks, each of the hooks being gluedat its lower end and on its, inner faceto a face of the body of sheet material to'provide a support of two plies of sheet material therefor.

3. A garment hanger comprising a body of sheet material provided with a centrally located opening having a straight longitudinal base line and two hook shaped supporting members consisting of sheet material glued tothe opposite faces of. the body of sheet material and united at their upper edges along a line substantially parallel to the straight longitudinal base line of the centrally located opening in the body of sheet material.
