My invention relates to paper roll racks and more especially to paper roll racks adapted to be tilted into positions to facilitate the placing of rollsofpaper into the rack.
A roll of wrapping paper such as the kind used by merchants for the wrapping of merchandise is quite heavy, almost too heavy for a lady clerk to lift in loading prior art types of paper roll racks with stationary bearings inelevated positions. The description of the illustrated paper roll rack embodying my invention thus far recited, defines a practical, convenient, workable paper roll rack that fulfills the first object of myinvention. The reader can easily see that even without the use of the lifting guides I, to be described later, the ends of the axle A supporting the paper roll R can be easily moved into the U shaped axle bearings 8, when the U shaped axle bearings 8 are lifted into horizontal alignment with them My inventive concept in a paper roll rack, however, goes further than the construction thus far v where the ends of the axle A are seated in the'U shaped axle bearings 8 merely by lifting up the head board 9 and swinging the standardsl' into an elevated position. To bring the roll R into proper position to allow. the guides 1 to contact the ends of the axle A, roll R should be rolled on the counter C into a' diagonal position with respect to the same at a location where the guides by merely rolling the paper roll R on the counter 1 may be lowered past the ends of the axle A. When the guides I are so lowered, the position where the head board 9 rests on the counter C the roll R should then be turned on the countei C to bring the ends of theaxle A over the guides I. When the liftingguides I attached to the standards 4 are being swung upwardly while in contact with ends of the axle A to an angular position such as shown by the dotted lines in Fig. 3, the force of gravity acting on the paper roll R supported by the axle A, the ends of which rest on the guides 1, causes the ends of axle A to roll down the guides 1 into the U shaped axle bearin s 8.
My paper roll support can be made out of the same kind of iron or other material heretofore used in the construction of prior art paper roll racks. The paper cutter head board 9, for the sake of economy, can be made out of wood. The foot plates l and th standards 4 can be fabricated from angle iron members if desired, or they may be cast in accordance with well known prior art manufacturing practices.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
1. A paper roll rack comprising a base means adapted to be fastened to a counter or the like, a paper roll holding frame mounted on the base means and adapted to hold a paper roll in an elevated position above the counter or the like, the paper roll holding frame including a pair of standards extending in spaced parallel relationship from the base means, each of said standards being provided with a U shaped bearing having an opening located at a medial portion of the length of the standard adapted to receive the end of an axle supporting a paper roll, each of the standards being provided with a guide member in alignment with the rear wall 'of its U shaped bearing, the guide members being adapted to guide the ends of the axle into the U shaped bearings, each of the standards being pivoted to the base means to permit the paper roll holding frame to be revolved to a position where it contacts the counter or the like, whereby to facilitate the placing of the ends of the paper roll supporting axle in the U shaped bearings.
2. A paper roll rack comprising a base means 7 adapted to be fastened to a counter or the like,
a paper roll holding frame mounted on the base means and adapted to hold a paper roll in an upright position above the counter or the like, the paper roll holding frame including a pair of standards extending in'spaced parallel relationship from the base means, each of said standards being provided with a U shaped bearing having an opening located at a medial portion of the length of the standard and adapted to receive the end of an axle supporting a paper roll, each of the standards being provided with a guide member in alignment with the rear wall of one of the U shaped bearings, and adapted to guide an end of the axle into a U shaped bearing, each of the standards being pivotably mounted on the base means whereby the paper roll holding frame may be revolved to a position where it contacts the counter or the like to facilitate the placing of the ends of the paper roll supporting axle in the U shaped bearing, one of the standards being provided with a foot member adapted to hold the paper roll holding frame in an uprighted position and a clamping means adapted to clamp a standard in an elevated position to the base means.

A paper roll rack comprising a base means adapted to be fastened to a counter or th like and a paper roll holding frame mounted on the base means adapted to hold a paper roll in an elevated position above the counter or the like, said paper roll holding frame including a pair of standards extending in spaced parallel relationship from th base means, each of said standards being provided with a U shaped bearing on its inner side, each of said standards being provided with a guide member in alignment with the rear wall of one of the U shaped bearings, said guide member being adapted to guide an end of an axle into said U shaped bearing, each of said standards being provided with a foot member adapted to hold said paper roll holding frame in an upright position under the weight of a paper roll supported by said paper roll holding frame, said standards being pivotably attached to the base means at the toe ends of the foot members.
