Scrap Book.
No. 237,061. I Patented Jan. 25,1881.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHARLES SNEIDER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO SAMUEL L. CLEMENTS AND DANIEL SLOTE, OF SAME PLACE.
BOOK.
SPEGIFIGATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 237,061, dated January 25, 1881. Application filed December 21, 1880. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES SNEIDER, of New York, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, haveinvented certain new and useful Improvements in Scrap-Books; and Ido hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain improvements in scrap-books of that class in which the leaves are provided with adhesive surfaces at suitable intervals, to which the printed or other matter to be attached thereto may be conveniently secured by moistening the adhesive surfaces or the material to be attached and placing the surfaces of the two in juxtaposition. As heretofore constructed these adhesive surfaces have been formed by applying mucilage or other similar cementing material at proper intervals to the face or faces of the sheets of the scrap-book and allowing the same to dry. As thus constructed it has been found that in most climates the adhesive surfaces are apt to become softened and cause' my invention.
The letter A indicates thejsheets of the book, which are composed of paper or any other 4.0 suitable fabric, andcoated on one or both" sides with mucilage, gum, or other suitable adhesive material.
The letterB indicates a sheet or sheets of paper or other similar fabric, which is out through in any suitable designs at proper intervals, as indicated by the letter I), and applied to'the sheets and cemented thereon, so as to leave the cemented or gummed surfaces exposed through the opening, so that the matter to be secured to the sheet may be securely fastened thereto by moistening the exposed portions, or by moistening the matter to be attached and placing it upon the sheets and allowing it to dry thereon.
As constructed, it will be perceived that the superimposed sheets applied to the leaves of the book when the same is closed keep the adhesive surfaces separated, so that they cannot possibly adhere together, even if softened under atmospheric influences.
Having thus described my invention, what Iclaim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, 1s-
A scrap book having the leaves thereof coated with adhesive material and provided with superimposed sheets of paper or other material, cut through at suitable intervals in suitable designs, so as to prevent the adhesive surfaces from meeting, and at the same time permit the matter to be secured to the leaves to be attached thereto, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand this 2d day of December, 1880.
OHS. SNEIDER.
