The tractor 3 includes a two-drum power winch 5 mounted on and projecting rearwardly therefrom; said power winch being of'a type commonly employed on tractors. A cable 6 is connected at one end with one drum of the power winch 5 and leads therefrom to the elevator frame assembly,

The above structural details of the mobile elevator are described in detail in the identified isbeing arranged in draft connection with a tractor v which includes a power winch, thepull cable of the hoist unit beingoperativelyconnected to said winch. v i
A further object of the, invention is to .produce a simple ,andinexpensive device and yet one which will be exceedingly effective for the-purpose for which it is desi ned. v
These objects I accomplish by means of such structure and relative arrangement of parts as will fully appear by a perusal of the following specification and claims.v

To engage the pin l3 in the bushing IS, the elevator frame I is run upwardly to the necessary I extent by means of the cable 6, and is thereafter held in such position by suitably braking the corresponding drum of the power winch 5. Also, when the elevator frame I is thus raised, the load supporting arms 8 are disposed a substantial distance above the ground and are clear of the load which'the auxiliary hoist is to lift.
The lifting mechanism of the auxiliary hoist comprises a multiple sheave block and tackle unit IS, the upper block of which is secured to and depends from the horizontal top beam 9 substantially centrally of its ends; the lower block I! of the block and tackle unit l8 including a downwardly projecting lifting hook I 8.
A direction changing sheave i3 is mounted on the top beam 3 adjacent the upper block 20 of the block and tackle unit I6, and the pull lead 2| of said block and tackle unit extends therefrom over sheave l9 and thence about direction changing sheaves 22 and 23 secured, respectively, on the forward end of top beam 9 adjacent pin l3, and on the draft connection 4 above the winch and adjacent the vertical axis of said connection. From the sheave 23 the pull lead 2| is connected with the other drum 24 of 'the power winch 5. As is apparent, rotation of drum 24 in one di-* rection or the other will eflect raising or lowering of the lower block l1 and hook l8 of the block and tackle unit l6.
Inuse, the tractor 3 is maneuvered until the load to be lifted is straddled by the frame structure which includes elevator frame assembly I, frame assembly I, and horizontal top beam 9, and which forms in, effect a rectangular arch. Thereafter the hook I8 is suitably connected with the load to be lifted, and the drum 24 of the I power winch rotated in a direction to raise block I! and hook it. When the load has been lifted to a position clear of the ground and drum 24 is braked and the tractor 3 is then in motion, the hoist structure and the lifted load trails thereafter.
By reason of the pivotal connection between the top beam 9 and elevator frame I, the tractor is steerable relative to the hoist frame assembly, and particularly the rear wheels II. This is a desirable feature, as it facilitates loading, transporting, and unloading of the object to be lifted.
The structure is such that objects of great size and weight can be successfully transported from place to place, and particularly objects which have an odd configuration, and which cannot readily be moved by conventional portable hoist structures, or which by their weight would tend to'over-balance such structures.
From the foregoing description it will be readily seen that I have produced such a device as substantially fulfills the objects of the invention as set forth herein.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of the device,
still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined by the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what-I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
1. A portable hoist comprising a pair of longitudinally spaced upstanding frame assemblies, said assemblies being wheel supported, a, top beam extending between the upper ends of said assemblies, said beam being fixed to one assembly and pivotally connected to the other assembly for relative horizontal swinging movement, a hoist unit secured to and depending from the top beam, a tractor, a horizontally swivelling draft connection between the tractor and said other frame assembly, a power winch on the tractor, and an actuating cable connected between said winch and the hoistunit; the hoist unit comprising a block and tackle unit, said cable being the pull lead of said unit, and direction-changing sheaves mounted between said unit and the power winch.

A portable hoist comprising, in combination, a mobile elevator which includes an upstanding elevator frame assembly and a tractor disposed ahead of and connected in draft relation to said elevator frame assembly; an upstanding wheel supported hoist frame assembly disposed rearwardly of said elevator frame assembly, said hoist frame assembly including in rigid relation a forwardly projecting top beam,

ward end in connection with the upper end portion of the elevator frame assembly for relative horizontal swinging movement, a hoist unit depending from said beam, and actuating means connected between the, tractorand said hoist unit.
3. A portable hoist as in claim 2 in which saidelevator frame assembly includes a vertically movable elevator frame; said pivot means com,
prising a vertical pin fixed on the upper end of said frame and the beam being formed with a socket into which said pin removably projects from below. I
4. A portable hoist comprising, in combination with a mobile elevator which includes an upstanding elevator frame assembly, a tractor disposed ahead of said elevator frame assembly and a horizontally swivelling draft connection between the tractor and frame, the tractor including a power winch at the rear; an upstanding wheel supported hoist frame assembly dis posed rearwardly of said elevator frame assembly, said hoist frame assembly including in rigid relation a forwardly projecting top beam, means detachably pivoting said beam at its forward end in connection with the upper end portion of the elevator frame assembly for relative horizontal swinging movement, a block, and tackle hoist unit secured to and depending from the top beam, and an actuating cable connected between the power winch and said hoist unit.
5. A portable hoist comprising, in combination with a mobile elevator which includes an upstanding frame assembly, a tractor disposed ahead of said elevator frame assembly and a horizontally swivelling draft connection between the tractor and frame, the tractor including a power winch at the rear; an upstanding wheel supported hoist frame assembly disposed rearwardly of said elevator frame assembly, said hoist frame assembly including in rigid relation aaaaeoe 3 a forwardly protecting top beam, means detachably pivoting said beam at its forward end in connection with the upper end portion of the elevator frame assembly for relative horizontal swinging movement, a block and tackle hoist unit secured to and depending from the, top
beam, and an actuating cable connected between the power winch and said hoist unit; there being direction changing sheaves mounted close to the vertical axis of the swivel draft connection and the vertical axis of the beam pivot, and said actuating cable passing over said sheaves between the winch and said hoist unit.
6. A portable hoist comprising, in combination,
a mobile elevator which includes an upstanding elevator frame assembly and a tractor disposed ahead of and connected in draft relation to said elevator frame assembly, an upstanding wheel supported hoist frame assembly disposed rearwardly of said elevator frame assembly, said hoist frame assembly including, in rigid relation, a forwardly projecting top beam, means detachably connecting said top beam at its forward 10 end with the upper end portion of the elevator frame assembly, a hoist unit depending from said beam and actuating means for said hoist unit.
