COMBINED HOT AND COLD WATER SPRAY AND SHAMPOO FITTING Filed Sept, 3, 1942 Lmtv C wvam hw/QMcKA HAW WM; yaw.
Patented July 27, 1943 COIVIBINED COLD AND'HOT WATER SPRAY AND SHAMPOO FITTING Charles McKendrick, Edinburgh, Scotland Application September 3, 1942, Serial No. 457,218 In Great Britain October 2, 1941 1 Claim. (Cl. 137111) The subject of the invention is a combined cold and hot water spray and shampoo fitting adapted to be connected to cold and hot water supply systems of unequal or varying pressures, e. g., a cold water main and a hot water tank, the pressure in the cold water main being higher than the pressure in the hot water tank.
An object of the invention is to provide a simple spray and shampoo fitting ofimproved construction in which the cold water is prevented from entering the hot Water system, whereby the possibility of the hot water tank overflowing and causing flooding is prevented.
A combined cold and hot water spray and shampoo fitting, according to the invention, incorporates a T-shaped casing provided with a partition which extends longitudinally through the stem thereof and divides said casing into two L-shaped passages forming respectively a cold water side and a hot water side, the cross limb or head of the T-shaped casing being provided with a cold water stop valve arranged at one end thereof and a hot water stop valve arranged at the other end thereof, and the outer end of the said stem being provided with an end-plate which, on thehot water side, is formed with a port and, on the cold water side, is fitted with a pipe of relatively small bore which a tube that leads to the spraying device or shower rose and whichis coupled to the stem of the T- shaped casing. I i
In operation, when both stop valves are open,
cold water is discharged from the cold water side of the fitting through'the pipe of small bore into the tube leading to the spraying device-in advance of the hot water which enters the said tube from the hot water side of the fitting through the port in the end-plate the cold and hot water supplies mixing in the tube.
' Fig. 1 of the accompanying drawing is a side elevation, partly sectional, of a combined cold and hot water spray and shampoo fitting according to the invention, and Fig. 2 is a fragmentary sectional plan view through the line II--II of Fig. 1.
extends into nected by way of a supply pipe IS with a cold water pressure supply system and the valve l1 is connected by way of a supply pipe IS with a passages forming, respectively, a cold water side In the drawing in is a T-shaped casing presenting a cross-limb or head H and stem l2 provided with a partition I3 which extends longitudinally through the stem 12 and divides the casing l9 into two L-shaped passages forming, respectively, a cold water side l4 and a hot water side It. The cross-limb or head ll of the T- shaped casing is provided, at one end, with a cold water stop valve l6 and, at the other end, with a hot water stop valve H. The valve [6 is conhot water supply system.
The end of the stem 12 is closed by an endplate 20 which, on the hot water side 15, is formed with a port 2| and, on the cold water side M, is fitted with a pipe 22 of relatively small bore. The pipe 22 extends beyond the plug 20 into a tube 23 connected to the stem l2 by a coupling nut 24 and furnished, adjacent to its upper end, with a branch 25 for connection of a tube leading to a spraying device or shower rose.
The end of thepartition 13, where it joins with the head, is for-med with curved fillets 26 whereby to direct the water from the valves l6, ll into the respective sides I l, 15 without back pressure or turbulence.
It will be seen that, when both the valves l6 and I! are open, cold water is discharged from the cold water side [4 through the pipe 22 into the tube leading to the spraying device in advance of the hot water which enters the said tube from the hot water side l5 through the port 2|.
I claim:
A combined cold and hot water spray and shampoo fitting incorporating a metal T-shaped casting constituted by a tubular cross limb at right angles to a tubular stem, the free end of said stem being externally screw-threaded, two stop valves arranged one at each end of said cross limb, a cold Water supply pipe connected to one of said valves, a hot water supply pipe connected to the other of said valves, an end wall at the free end of said stem, a plane partitionextending longitudinally through the said stem from said end wall of said cross limb and dividing said casting into two similar L-shaped and a hot water side, the said partition being joined to the wall of the cross limb by curved fillets, a tube arranged against the outer face of the said end wall, a screw-threaded coupling nut engaging the screw threads on said stem and serving to secure the said tube to the said stem, anoutlet branch which extends laterally from said tube, a pipe of small bore which penetrates the said end wall on the cold water side of the partition, extends through the said tube and the said branch and terminates at the outlet end of said branch, the end wall being formed on the hot water side of the partition with a port to
