HAT-BRIM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 232,066, dated September '7, 1880.
Application filed May 18, 1880.
To all whom at may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB RING, of Oincinnati, Hamilton county, Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Hats, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a construction of hat or bonnet whose brim is rendered capable of yielding readily to any disturbance of its original shape, and of instantly and completely resuming its shape when liberated by a piece of spiral spring-wire, (preferably covered,) which is secured in the substance or the hemmed or bound brim margin, in the manner hereinafter described.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 represents a hat embodying that form of my invention in which the wire is inserted in the brim m argin in the uncovered condition, a portion of one end of the wire being detached and portions of the inclosing sheath or hem being omitted. Fig. 2 similarly represents that form of my invention in which the spiral spring-wire is incased in a sheath or wrapper before insertion in the brim. Fig. 3 represents a flangebrim hat provided with my improvement.
