6 Claims.
This invention relates to portable electric lighting outfits of the type used for Christmas tree or namentation and for similar illuminated display purposes. More particularly, my invention relates to an improved construction for the electric light sockets used with such lighting outfits.
One of the objects of my invention is to provide an electric light socket construction of the character described, having novel means for attaching said sockets to a branch of a Christmas tree, or to any other support.
Another object of my invention is to provide an electric light socket of the character described and novel mounting means therefor which shall comprise relatively few and simple parts, which shall be economical to manufacture, easyto assemble and which at the same time shall be highly efficient for the purposes intended.
Other objects of this invention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the features of construction, combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and
of which the scope of application will be indicated in the claims.
the husk 20 by means of a'screw threaded shank 25 fixed to the husk 20 and projecting outwardly therefrom and adapted to be received in a correspondingly screw threaded aperture 26 in the cap 24 as clearly shown in Fig. 3. For attaching the socket to any suitable support, such as for example the branch of a Christmas tree, I have provided an attaching member 2'! comprising a strip of resilient material having a main portion 21a and a second portion 21b integral with the main portion 21a. and bent at an angle thereto. The portion 21b is provided with an aperture 28 adjacent the free end thereof and is attached to the bottom of the cap 24 by having a screw 29 passing through said aperture 28 and threadedly re.- ceived in the aperture 26. The head of the screw 29 serves to hold the member 21 captive. the above description it is seen that the member 21 is thus fixed to the socket in such manner that the main portion 21a will extend upwardly in a position substantially parallel to and'spaced from the outer wallofthe husk 23, as clearly shown in Fig. 1. Referring now in detail to the drawing and particularly to Figs. 1 to 3, there is shown an electric light socket of the type well known in the art and generally employed on Christmas tree or similar portable display lighting outfits comprising a husk 20, and provided with a lamp 2| and suitable lead wires 22 and 23 connected to the socket in the manner Well known in the art. The socket may be of the type provided with a bottom cap 24 and which is adapted to be attached to gaging the said branch between the portion 21a of the member 21 and the adjacent wallof the husk 20. If desired, the inner surface of theportion 21a may be roughened, or provided with a plurality of struck-out projections to facilitate the gripping action when attached to a branch.
In Figs. 4 and 5 I have shown a modified form of my invention in which the attaching member 30 comprises a strip of resilient material 3| similar to the portion 21a. and having an annular ring portion 32 integral with the portion 3! and bent substantially at right angles thereto. For attaching the member 30 to the socket the cap 33 is first unscrewed from the husk 2|] and the ring portion 32 placed between the bottom edge of the husk 20 and the top edge of the cap 33 and when the said cap 33 is screwed to the husk 2|] the member 30 will be frictionally held between the said husk and the cap. The portion 3| will be disposed substantially parallel to and spaced from the outer wall of the husk 2|].
In Figs. 6 and 7 I have shown a modified form of my invention, in which the attaching member 40 is of similarconstruction to that of the member 21, but the method of attachment to the socket is different. In this form of my invention the member 40 is provided with an aperture 4| adjacent the free end of the bottom portion thereof which receives the threaded shank 25 therethrough and the cap 24 is then attached to the socket in the usual manner. attachment of the cap 24 will hold the member 40 in proper position. 1
It will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, and which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above invention, and as various changes might be made in the embodiments above set forth, it is to be understood that all matter herein set forth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In an electric light holder, a husk of insulating material, a removable cap for said husk, means for holding said cap on said husk, an attaching member comprising a strip of resilient material having a main portion adapted to be disposed along the side of said husk and spaced therefrom for gripping a support, and a second portion substantially at right angles thereto, and means including said cap holding means for mounting said attaching member on said cap.
2. In an electric light holder, a husk of insulating material, a cap for said husk, said cap having a screw threaded aperture therein, an attaching member comprising a strip of resilient material having a main portion adapted to be disposed along the side-of said husk and spaced therefrom for gripping a' support, and a second portion substantially at right angles thereto, and means for mounting said attaching member on said cap, said last named means comprising a screw passing through said second portion and received. in said screw threaded aperture.
3. In an electric light holder, a husk of insulating material having a screw threaded shank extending downwardly from the bottom wall thereof, a cap having a screw threaded aperture adapted to be threadedly received on said shank to attach said cap to said husk, and an attaching member comprising a strip of resilient. material having a main portion adapted to be disposed along the side of said husk and permanently spaced therefrom a predetermined distance for gripping a support therebetween, and a second portion substantially at right angles thereto, said second portion having an aperture adjacent the free end thereof and adapted to receive said threaded shank therein, said cap, when in efiective position, serving to hold said attaching member non-slidably captive on said husk.
4. In an electric light holder, a husk of insulating material having a screw threaded shank extending downwardly from the bottom wall thereof, a cap having a screw threaded aperture adapted to be received on said shank to attach said cap to said husk, and an attaching member comprising a strip of resilient material having a main portion adapted to be disposed along the side of said husk and spaced therefrom for gripping a support therebetween, and a second portion substantially at right angles thereto, said second portion comprising a ring shaped member adapted to substantialiy register with the rim of said cap, said cap when in effective position being adapted to frictionally hold said ring member between said cap rim and the bottom wall of said husk,

In an electric light holder, a husk of insulating material, a cap detachably attached to said husk, an attaching member having a main portion, adapted to be disposed along the side of said husk and permanently spaced therefrom a predetermined distance for gripping a support therebetween, and a second portion substantially at right angles to said main portion, and means including said cap for attaching said second portion to said husk, said last named means comprising means for preventing relative movement between said attaching member second portion and said husk.
6. An electric light holder of the character described comprising a husk having an end wall, a cap, attaching means for firmly pressing said, cap into abutment with said end wall, an attaching member for said light holder including an arm disposed along and permanently spaced from the side of said husk for gripping a sup-v port therebetween and a portion integral with and substantially at right angles to said arm,
' and means including said first named cap attaching means for firmly and positively securing said attachment member portion to said holder.
