Description

RACER, W. RACER, Administrator Suspender-Button.
.No. 218,772. Patented Aug. 19, 1879.
WITNESSES VEIITOI ATTORNEYS.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE MARTIN J. RACER, (WILLIAM RAOER, ADMINISTRATOR) OF LA GRANGE TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SUSPENDER-BUTTONS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 218,772. dated August 19, 1879; application filed May 9, 1879.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MARTIN J. RACER, of La Grange, in the county of Fayette and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Suspender-Button, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1 is afront elevation of myimproved suspender-button. Fig. 2 represents the same as attached to the band of a pair of pants. Fig. 3 is a vertical section on line a: .r in Fig. 1.
Similar letters ofreference indicate corresponding parts.
The invention will first be described in connection with the drawings, and then pointed out in the claim.
The object of the invention is to provide a button that may be quickly and firmly.attached to garments, and that is not liable to tear the cloth or become accidentally loosened.
Referring to the drawings, A is the frame of the buckle, which is bent twice at right angles, or returned upon itself, so as to form the parts a 1), between which there is space for receiving the edge of the garment.
In the part a a rectangular aperture, 0, is made, into which the pointed tongues 01 project from the metal at the lower side of the aperture.
The part b is notched, and the metal at the sides of the notch is bent into the form of an eye to'receive projections formed at the angle of the cam-lever B, one arm of which lies parallel with the part b of the frame A, and the other arm projects a short distance through the aperture 0 of the part a. The aperture 0 is of such size as to permit of turning the piece B, with the cloth of the garment intervening between it and the part a of the frame A.
Above the aperture 0 in the part a the button O is attached by means of a shank, e, that extends through a hole in the said part a, and
is riveted therein.
The button is attached to the garment by placing the edge of the garment between the parts a b, the short arm of the piece B being turned up against the inside of the part b. When the edge of the garment is well crowded into the space in the frame A, the part B is turned so as to press the cloth into the aperture c" and downward uponthe pointed tongues d, as clearly shown in Fig. 3.
The button thus attached is more secure than the ordinary sewed button, and may be more readily attached or removed.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The clasp A, having parts a and'b, formed of a single piece of metal, the part aprovided with rectangular opening a, and the teeth or tongues d, in combination with the cam-lever B, pivoted to the free end of the part b, and the button or stud attached to face of part a, as described.
MARTIN JAcKsoN RACER.
