Description

FISHLINE RELEASER Filed Sept. 26, 1938 2 Sheets-Sheet 1 Dec. 26, 1939. C.'H. GRIFFITH 2,184,589
FISHLINE RELEASER Filed Sept. 26, 1938 2 Sheets-Sheet -2 Inventor A ttomeys Patented Dec. 26, 1939 UNITED STATES FATE OFFICE 4 Claims.
The present invention relates to fishline releasing attachments and has for its primary object to provide a device of this character adapted to be mounted on and to travel downwardly ,5 along the line toward the entangled hook and embodying a bucket-like member adapted to be forced in the direction of the travel of the current of the water and by so doing to pull the entangled hook free from its engaged obstruction.
An important object of the present invention is to provide a bucket-like attachment of this character embodying a rigid ring to which a section of cloth is attached for forming the bucket, together with a pivoted bail of semicircular form and adapted to fold upon the ring into a compact form for storage purposes.
A still further object is to provide a device of this character of simple and practical construction, which is efiicient and reliable in, performance, relatively inexpensive to manufacture and otherwise well adapted for the purposes for which the same is intended.
Other objects and advantages reside in the 25 details of construction as more fully hereinafter described and claimed, reference being had to the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, wherein like numerals refer to like parts throughout, and in which 30 Figure 1 is a side elevational view showing the device secured to a fishline and lowered into a stream for removing the line from an entangled object.
FigureZ is aside elevational view of the device.
3 Figure 3 is a vertical sectional View therethrough.
Figure 4 is a top plan view, and
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the ring forming the open edge of the bucket.
40 Referring now to the drawings in detail, the numeral 5 designates a wire ring member to which a substantially conical-shaped fabric 6 is secured, such as canvas or the like, to form a substantially bucket-like member as shown in 45 Figures 2 and 3 of the drawings.
A bail I has its opposite ends formed with eyes 8 and engaged about the ring 5 to form a handle, the bail preferably being in semi-circular form and equal in length to substantially one- 50 half the circumference of the ring in order that the bail may be folded flatly against the ring in a compact form, when desired. The central portion of the bail is formed with an eye 9 having a restricted opening III by means of which the In the operation of the device the bucket will settle by gravity in the water 12 of a stream, when the bucket is placed on the line, in a manner as indicated, and the current of the stream will pull the bucket in a downstream direction, 5 whereby to free the sinker H3 or hook I4, as the case may be, from an obstruction such as shown at IS in the bed of the stream. For the purpose of illustration the end of a fishpole is shown at I6, to which the line l l is attached.
At diametrically opposite sides of the ring 5 are provided a pair of spaced apart lugs I! between which the eyes 8 of the bail are positioned to secure the bail in an upright positon when the device is in use.
It is believed the details of construction and manner of use of the device will be readily understood from the foregoing without further detailed explanation.
Having thus described the invention, what I 20 claim is 1. A fishline releaser of the class described comprising a bucket-like member and a bail for the member having a line attaching eye adapted for attaching the bail to the line for slidably supporting the bucket-like member on the line.
2. A fishline releaser of the class described comprising a bucket-like member including a. wire ring having a conical-shaped cloth attached thereto, a bail pivotally attached to the ring and a fishline receiving eye on the bail, said eye having a restricted opening through which to insert and remove the fishline.
3. A fishline releaser of the class described comprising a bucket-like member including a wire ring having a conical-shaped cloth attached thereto, a bail pivotally attached tothe ring and a fishline receiving eye on the bail, said eye having a restricted opening through which to insert and remove the fishline and looking lugs formed on the ring member engageable with the bail to secure the same in an upright position. I
4. A fishline releaser of the class described comprising a bucket-like member including a 45 wire ring having a conical-shaped cloth attached thereto, a bail pivotally attached to the ring and a fishline receiving eye on the bail, said eye having a restricted opening through which to insert and remove the fishline and locking lugs formed on the ring member engageable with the bail to secure the same in an upright position, said bail being of semi-circular form and of a length substantially equal to one-half the circumference of the ring and adapted to fold against one side of the ring.
