ATTORNEY N PETERS, PHDTO-LITHOGRAPHER, WASHINGTON D C,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE E. SUINGLEY, OF FREDERIOKTOWN, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE- HALF HIS RIGHT TO LOUIS B. AOKERMAN AND JOHN W. LEEDY.
IMPROVEMENT IN HARNESS-TUGS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N 0. 218,330, dated August 5, 1879; application filed July 2, 1879.
. To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, GEORGE R. SUINGLEY, Fredericktown, in the county of Knox and ate of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Harness-Tags; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of my invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in the class of metallic thill-holders; and the object of my invention is the production of a cheap, strong, and durable holder; and to this end the invention consists in a novel construction of the thillholder, all of which will be hereinafter fully described, and specifically pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings, A represents a metallic thillholder, provided with inwardly and outwardly projecting side flanges a a, forming an annular interior groove or recess, 1), for the reception of a removable packing, a, and an exterior annular groove or recess, 61, for the reception of the strap e, which is to be buckled to the belly-band. The outer side flanges, a a, of the holder A are cut away, as shown at f, Fig. 1, for the reception of the buckle g, which is secured therein by the slotted metallic plate h, riveted to the holder, and interposed between said holder and the strap 0, passing around the same.
The metallic plate, while forming a more secure fastening for the buckle, prevents the same from wearing out the strap 6. The strap 0 is also provided with a loop, t, through which and the buckle g the bearer-strap passes and is secured.
j represents a metallic or stiffening plate secured to the holder, and interposed between the ends of the strap 6, passing around said holder, the ends of the strap and plate 3' being securely riveted together, all as clearly shown in Fig. 2.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, 1s-
The herein-described metallic holder A, provided with outwardly and inwardly projecting side flanges a a, removable interior packing, a, strap 0, passing around the same, buckle g, fitting in the recesses f of the flanges, metallic plate h, for securing said buckle in position, and metallic or stiffening plate j, interposed between the ends of the strap a, substantially as shown and specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
GEORGE R. SUINGLEY.
