Description

PQA. SNYDER.
'lmprovement in Snaps and Buckles Combined;
"No. 121,015,. Y Patented Nov-14,1871.
. FFIGE.
PHILIP A. SNYDER, OF BUTLERVILLE, OHIO, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF HIS RIGHT TO SAMUEL GUSTIN, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SNAPS AND BUCKLES COMBINED.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 121,015, dated November 14, 1871.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, PHILIP A. SNYDER, of
V Butlerville, in the county of Warren and State .and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawing making part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a central vertical longitudinal section through the lines 00 00. Fig. 2 is atop view, and Fig. 3is a vertical longitudinal section of the snap itself.
This invention has relation to an improved harness snap and buckle combined, and the novelty consists in constructing the buckle with four bars and three spaces and attaching a tongue to one. of them; the object being to provide a snapbuckle which will hold the strap securely without sewing, and without danger of its being torn or split by ordinary strain or tension.
The accompanying drawing represents my improved snap and buckle applied to a breast or hamesstrap, the rings A A representing the loops of the respective hames. In this case both ends of the strap are secured to the buckle.
B represents the bucklefi'ame, from one end of which projects the snap-hook C. The buckle is constructed with two, or, counting in the ends, four cross-bars, a b o d, with intervening spaces a. b c. The bar a is slightly raised toward the point of the hook, and the bar I) raised or projected in an opposite direction. The tongue 6 is hung on the latter, and its point rests against the bar 0. A single end of a strap is attached by inserting it down through space 0, then up through space I), buckling it to the tongue, and then passing it over bar b and down through space a. The other end of the strap is now brought over bars b and 0, down through space a, and along underneath bar a, thus covering up the fine end of the strap and the tongue and presenting a neat, even surface. In attaching both ends of a strap, as shown in the drawing, one is first passed up through space I), then buckled to the tongue, and afterward turned over bar b and down through space a The object of the projection of the bars a. and b is to give the strap room and render its arrangement easy. In constructing this buckle a groove should be made in the bar d, or a pair of small lugs, f, projected to form a seat for the end of a snap-spring and keep it from turning to either side.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- The snap-hook 0, provided with the buckle, consisting of the frame B having the bars a b c d, with spaces a b c, and tongue 0, arranged substantially as described.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
PHILIP A. SNYDER.
Witnesses:
