linvention relates to car bodies, and more particularly to 'car bodies as described in my prior U. S. Patent 1,970,907 of August 21, 1934, for a Three wheeled vehicle body. This body is 3 of4 channel section, i. e., open at the top, its l"side walls are braced by sheets or guards secured to their outer sides at the top and both ends of the bod-'y are closed.
It is an object of the present invention to io improve a vehicle body of this kind. To this `end, the triangular portion of the known vehicle body is dispensed with, and the body is made rectangular in plan, with an end wall at one end only, the other end being open. A principal flange of U shape is secured to the outer sides of the side walls and the end wall, and means is provided at one end of the box for bracing the flange.
Such means may be a ange, also of U shape,
which is secured to the upper end of the outer sides of the side walls and the bottom at the open end of the box, and the ends of its shanks` are connected to the ends of the Shanks of the principal flange, or it may be a U shaped bracket secured to the web of the principal iiange with its own web, and to the end wall with its Shanks.
The bracing of the car body by the means described is so effective that the body is stii against twisting forces, and in particular its side walls are absolutelyrigid, so that journals can be attached thereto. Neither the principal ange nor its bracing means obstruct the space in the interior of the body so that its capacity is fully available.
With the above and other objects in view that will become apparent as the nature of the invention is better understood, the same consists in the novel form, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter more fully described, shown in the accompanying drawing and claimed.

Figure 4 is a perspective view, similar to Figure 3, with the auxiliary box for closing the open end being of triangular cross section,
Figure 5 is a perspective View of another form of box similar to Figure 4 with a U shaped bracing bracket,
Figure 6 is a perspective View of a carriage body constructed with the box of the present invention and Figure Z is a detail sectional View taken on line 1-1 of Figure 5.
Referring more in detail to the accompanying drawing and particularly to Figure 1, the referen ence character a shows a car body in the form of a channel-section box open at the top b and at one end c, the rigidity against twisting of this box being attained by a U shaped flange with shanks d and d', and a web t secured to the upper ends of the outer sides of the side walls lc and k and the end wall Z of the car body lc. It is to be noted that the Shanks d and d and web t project outwardly and laterally of the 15 upper edges of the side walls and end walls of the box. A subsidiary iiange, also of U shape, with a web h and shanks ZL and h is secured to the side walls k, lc and the bottom c of the body at the open end of the body and the Shanks of the two iianges are connected at the ends as at i. Two U shaped edge reinforcements are thus provided on two sides of the box a at right angles to each other and the box thus: produced is not only free from twisting but its side Walls 1c and lc and so fram-ed by the two U shaped iianges are so rigid and fixed with respect to each other that they may be used as supporting members for journals without an axle being required.
In the form of invention shown in Figure 2, the box is open at the top', closed at both ends, the rigidity against twisting being produced by anges d on the sides and one end of the walls of the box.
As shown in Figure 3, the box a is open at its upper side with a subsidiary rectangular closed box Z on one end of the main box with the side walls of the auxiliary box engaging the sides: and bottom of the main box. 40
In Figure 4, the form of box a is similar to the box shown in Figure 3 while the auxiliary box r is of triangular shape with the rectangular side q of the triangular box r being located in the plane of the open upper side of the box a. 45
Asshown in Figure 5 the box a of the body is similar to the form of invention illustrated in Figure 1 but in lieu of the subsidiary flanges h, h and h" at the upper end, a bracing bracket of U shape is placed below the web t of the principal ange and the Shanks m of the U shaped bracket are secured to the outer side of the end wall Z, the web of the bracket being secured to the web t. 55
I claim:
1. A vehicle body comprising a box of channel formation and rectangular in plan, an end wall at one end of the box, a flange of U shape secured at its inner edges to the upper edges of the side walls and the end Wall of the box and projecting laterally and outwardly of the side and end walls of the box and means at one end of the box for bracing said U shaped ange.
2. A Vehicle body comprising a box of channel formation and rectangular in plan, an end wall at one end of the box, a ange of U shape secured at its inner edges to the upper edges of the side walls and the end wall of the box and projecting laterally and outwardly of the side and end walls of the box and means at one end of the box for bracing said U shaped ange, said means comprising a subsidiary ange of U shape having the inner edges thereof secured to the vertical edges of the side walls of the box at the open end of the box, said subsidiary flange having the ends of the vertical Shanks secured to adjacent ends of the side portions of the first named ange and subsidiary ange being entirely disposed laterally and outwardly of the side and bottom walls of the box.
3. A vehicle body comprising a box of channel section and rectangular plan, an end wall at one end of the box, a flange of U shape secured to the upper ends of the outer sides of the side Walls and the end wall, and a U shaped bracket secured to the lower side of the web of the ange with its own web, and to the end wall with its Shanks.
