Description

J. WOHL Feb. 28, 1939,
NEGKTIE Filed Sept Patented Feb. 28, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 1 3 Claims.
Thls invention relates generally to neckwear. More partlcularly the invention relates to an improved construction for four-in-hand neckties.
One of the objects of my invention is to pro 5 vide a four-in-hand necktie of the character described, which is designed 130 present a smooth, non-wrinkled appearance when the knot is tied.
Another object of my invention is to provide a four-in-hand necktie of the character described in which the knt portion thereof may be adjusted to any desired size.
Still another object of my inventioh is to provide a four-in-hand necktie construction of I;he character described which shall comprise relatively few and simple parts, which shall be relatively inexpensive to manufacture, which shall be highly attractive in appearance, which shall provide a, minimum of wrinkling, which shall be durable and at the same time possess a, high degree of efficiency and utility.
Other objeots of this lnvention will in part be obvious and in part hereinafter pointed out.
The invention accordingly consists in the Teatures of construction; combinations of elements, and arrangement of parts which will be exemplified in the construction hereinafter described, and of which the scope of application will be indicated in the following claims.
In the accompanying drawing, in Which is 30 shown one of the various possibleembodiments of this invention,
Fig. 1 is a, front elevational view of a four-inband necktie embodying my invention;
Fig. 2 is an enlarged fragmentary rear view of a portion of the necktie illustrated in Fig. 1;
Fig. 3 is a cross-sectional view takten substantially on the line 33 of Fig. 2;
Fig. 4 is a rear elevational view of the necktie shown in Fig. 1 but illustrating the method. 0f tying the same; anti Fig. 5 is an enlarged fragmentary view of a portion cf the necktie illustrated in Fig. 4.
Referring now in detail to the drawing, there is shown a necktie I0 of the four-in-hand. type constructed in accordance with my invention and which is so designed that the same may be tied into a, knot which presents a neat and nonwrinkled appearance.
The necktie I 0 may be made of any suitable necktie material out and sewed together in the manner well known in the art, and comprising a relatlvely narrow tab II anti a relatively wide tab I2 interconnecced by a neckband I3. On the obverse side of the tab I 2 at apredetermined portion thereof I have provlded a plurality of pairs of co.operating snap fastener elements I5, I5, I1, I8 and. I9, the said snap fastener elements being disposed in alignment and adjacent the opposed longitudinal edges of said tab I2. The necktie is adapted to be tied in the conventional manner 5 with the exception of the final step. 'Ihat is, instead of the customary way of inserting the relatively Wide tab I2 through and between the layers of the knot formed by causing the tab I2 I0 encircle the tab II, by my invention, in the final 10 stage of tying the necktie, the tab I2 is simply made 110 overlie the top surface of the knot in the manner clearly shown in Fig. 4 of the drawing in which the said necktie is viewed fr0m Iihe rear. II; is noted that the sets of cooperating snap fastener elements I5 to I9 are so disposed as to be in the area of the knot when the tie is worn, so that after the relative lengths o1 the tabs II anal I2 have been satisfactorily adjusted, II; is merely necessary to bring together any one pair of coopera.ting snap fastener elements, such as for example the fastener elements I6 shown in Fig. 2, to loop ehe portion of the tab I2 a.t the area of the saicl snap fasteners around I:he tab I I, which at the same time causes the tab I2 to be pinched at the points A to define a nonwrinkled appearing four-in-hand necktie knot.
In accordance with my invention it is seen that the size of the knot K may be adjusted in any desirecl manner by selectively fastening together any one set or sets of snap fastener elements. 'I'hus, for example, if the snap fastener elements I9 were joined instead of the elements I6, as shown, the knot portion of the tie would be lengthened.
II: is thus seen that by my invention I have provided a more simple anal quicker method of tying a four-in-hand necktie, while at the same time I have eliminated the final step employed in the conventional manner of Isying a tie, whlch final step is responsible to a large extent for the wrinkled and unsymmetrical appearance which occurs in four-in-hand neckties when they are tied in a hurry or tied by inexperienced hands, also there is eliminated to a large extent the permanent wrinkles which are formed due to the conventional manner of making the knot.
II; will thus be seen that there is provided a device in which the several objects of this invention are achieved, anal which is well adapted to meet the conditions of practical use.
As various possible embodiments might be made of the above inventlon, and as various changes might be ma.de in the embodiments above sei: forth, lt is to be understood that all matter herein sei; Iorth or shown in the accompanying drawing is to be interpreted as illustrative and not in a limiting sense.
Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. As a new article of manufacture, a four-inband. necktie comprising a pair of tabs interconnected by a. neckband, the outer tab of said pair of tabs being provided with complementary rows of fastener elements disposed along the opposed longitudinal edges on the rear side thereof and in the region where a knot is usual1y formed for seletively joining complementary pairs of said fastener elements 130 form a simulated knot of adjustable length when the necktie is wo-rn.
2. As a. new article of manufacture, a. four-inband necktie comprising a pair of tabs interconnected by a neckband, the unter tab o:f said pair of tabs being provided with complementary rows of fastener elements disposed along the opposed longitudinal edges on the rear side thereof and in the region Where a knqt is usuaily formed for selectively joining complementary pairs of said. fastener elements to form a simulated knot of adjustable leng'th when the necktie is worn, said simulated knot being provided With only one transverse edge disposed at the top thereof.
3. As a new article of manufacture, afour-inhand necktie Comprising a, pair of ta.bs interconnected by a neckband, the outer tab of said pair of tabs being provided. With complementary rows of fastener elements disposed along the opposed. longitudinal edges 011 the rear side thereof and in the region where a knot is usually formed for selectively joining complementary pairs of said fastener elements to form a. simulated knot cf adjustable length when the necktie is wem, sid simulated knot forming a, part of an uninterrupteol fabric surfaee cf the said unter tab.
